Every time I open my spice cabinet, I'm reminded of something I love about herbalism.
Turmeric. Garlic. Ginger. Cinnamon.
Most of us think of them as ingredients for dinner, but they've also been trusted as medicines for generations. The more I learn about plants, the more amazed I am by just how much healing can begin in the kitchen.
That's one of the reasons I'm excited about my friend Nick Polizzi's new free docuseries, Healing Kitchen: Let Food Be Thy Medicine.

Who Should Have Glucose Tested?

By Chauncey Crandall, M.D.

Blood glucose level refers to the amount of sugar in your blood. Glucose in your blood comes from the foods — primarily carbohydrates — you eat, and is mediated by the hormone insulin, which is released by your pancreas.

Insulin enables the body to use glucose as fuel. Another hormone called glucagon, which stores excess glucose in the liver, allows that glucose to be released if your level falls too low.

Traditionally, blood glucose testing has been conducted primarily for detection of diabetes, which can damage the body years before symptoms occur.

Special: 4 Warning Signs Your Heart May Be Failing — Do You Know Them?

Today, the American Diabetes Association recommends glucose testing begin at age 45, and is especially important for people in these risk groups:

• People who have prediabetes (insulin resistance)

• People who are overweight

• People who have a parent, sibling, or grandparent who developed diabetes

• People who have high cholesterol or triglycerides

• Women who had gestational diabetes when pregnant, or who gave birth to a baby larger than 9 pounds

• People who are physically active less than three times a week

• People who have nonalcoholic fatty liver disease

• People who are African American, Latino American, American Indian, or an Alaska Native (some Pacific Islanders and Asian Americans are also at higher risk)

• Women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)

From ancient Egypt to China, India, and the Mayan and Aztec empires… one idea kept showing up again and again.

Food is medicine.

Hippocrates, the physician still credited as the father of modern medicine, said it himself over two thousand years ago.

Yet somewhere along the way… that idea was forgotten.

Mass production, artificial ingredients, and processed convenience took its place.

But researchers are increasingly circling back to what those ancient traditions understood all along…

…that the quality of what's on your plate may matter more than most of us were ever taught.

That's the idea behind a new docuseries I'm excited to share:

Healing Kitchen: Let Food Be Thy Medicine

It's a complimentary series exploring some of the world's most researched medicinal foods…

And packed with recipes and traditional remedies you can actually use in your own kitchen.

=> Watch the trailer and see what ancient kitchens knew that we forgot

Inside, you'll discover:

  • Plant-based recipes designed to support specific systems in your body

  • How to eat in a way that supports your gut microbiome, not just yourself

  • Traditional kitchen remedies researchers are studying for their role in memory and brain function

  • How vibrant, whole foods may support skin, hair, and the ageing process

  • Plant-based foods researchers are studying in relation to hormone balance

And you'll meet the people behind the movement… farm-to-table chefs, herbalists, wild food foragers, small farmers, and holistic nutritionists.

=> Reserve your spot and discover the medicinal power of food

To your health,

Tomorrow, I am teaching a free webinar for practitioners who work with clients whose hormone and metabolic symptoms refuse to resolve.

The Missing Signal: Why Hormone Symptoms Persist Even When Labs Look Normal

During the training, you will discover:

  • Why hormone production and hormone response are not the same thing
  • Where communication can break down between the bloodstream and the cell
  • How insulin resistance can influence thyroid, leptin, cortisol, sex hormones, appetite, inflammation, and energy
  • Which symptoms, history patterns, and routine labs may offer important clues
  • What to investigate before recommending more of the same hormone or support
Most importantly, you will leave with a framework you can use when a client’s symptoms, treatment history, and lab results do not seem to make sense together.

We begin tomorrow, Wednesday, August 12 at 7pm ET.

The evidence on glyphosate and reproductive health has been building for years. Jeffrey Smith has laid it out in one of the most comprehensive presentations ever given on the subject.
At the Real Truth About Health Conference, Jeffrey walks through the peer-reviewed research linking glyphosate exposure to reproductive harm — including effects that do not stop with the individual exposed but carry forward into subsequent generations. Birth defects. Hormonal disruption. Changes in fetal development. Multigenerational damage to the reproductive system that science is only beginning to fully document.
This is one of the most urgent and underreported dimensions of the glyphosate story. Regulatory safety assessments were never designed to evaluate what happens across generations. The standard 90-day animal study cannot capture effects that show up in grandchildren. And yet glyphosate is present in the bodies of the vast majority of Americans — including pregnant women and developing fetuses.
What Jeffrey presents is not speculation. It is a synthesis of peer-reviewed science that regulators have access to — and have chosen not to act on.
If you are of reproductive age, pregnant, planning a family, or care about the health of future generations — this presentation is essential viewing.

Watch Jeffrey's "Reproductive Harm and Multigenerational Damage" presentation linked below.

Dr. C here.
Today's updates cover an important new study on hormone replacement and a way potatoes may improve your blood sugar. Let's dive in.

HRT and Thyroid Cancer?

You may be seeing headlines linking hormone therapy to thyroid cancer, so here is the balanced version. A large 2026 study of more than 5 million women found a rise in thyroid cancer risk with hormone replacement, especially after 5 years' usage. Earlier research had not found a clear link.

What should you do? Don't think of HRT as 'good' or 'bad.' It is a good way to manage hot flashes, it may offer some health benefits, and it does carry a few risks.

Talk to your doctor about whether you should be on it and for how long. If you have thyroid disease and use hormones, mention it so you can decide together whether any monitoring makes sense for you.

Note from Dr. C

I hope you're having a nice summer. Our big news was that our son just got married. It was a beautiful small wedding that we held at our lake home, and it was wonderful having time to connect with lots of family.

Hang out with me on Facebook if you'd like more personal details! (@dralanchristianson)

Potato Hack

If you have thyroid disease, you have likely been told to cut carbs.

Here is the twist: one kind of starch actually resists digestion, so it steadies blood sugar and feeds your gut without the usual insulin spike. The trick to unlocking it is simple. Boil your potatoes, then cool them before eating.

I walk through the full method, plus what to do if potatoes are not for you, in my latest article.

Happy Tuesday Jimi!
It's no secret that I am passionate about food. The right food can be medicine, supplying nutrients that assist the body in healing, and the wrong food can be poison, degrading our health over time.
The civilizations of ancient Egypt, China, and India - all the way to the Mayan and Aztec empires knew this too. Food doesn't just keep us alive, it brings people together, and helps us thrive and heal.
But in the last century, we've abandoned our most nutritious dietary habits in order to maximize pleasure, convenience, and profit.
We've introduced factory farming and chemical spraying; we've added artificial flavors, additives, preservatives, growth hormones, and antibiotics into our food supply; and we've created new categories of food: processed food, fast food, and junk food.
As a result we have an epidemic of chronic disease caused by our modern diet.
It's time to get back to our roots.
Hippocrates is famous for his wisdom, "Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food," and today we have overwhelming evidence that the key to optimal health is eating a wide variety of nutrient-dense, whole foods from the earth.
That's why I am so excited about The Healing Kitchen: Let Food Be Thy Medicine. In this docu-series you will learn:
-How to create recipes that target specific health conditions and vital systems within your body
-Ancient kitchen remedies that improve brain function and memory, even in patients with cognitive impairment.
-How eating vibrant foods can improve your skin health, hair health, and overall complexion, supporting the aging process
And so much more!
You’ll learn from an inspiring group of experts, from farm-to-table chefs, herbalists, and wild food foragers, farmers, natural doctors, holistic nutritionists and more!

I didn’t expect to find myself back in Washington, D.C. again so soon.

But when Secretary Kennedy’s team invited me to speak at a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services event on Monday, I was truly honored to be included. It was an opportunity to share my perspective and advocate for the health of American families on the national stage, one I’m incredibly grateful to have been given.

I told Big Food what is going to happen if they keep poisoning us.

I will keep fighting for you no matter who is in office.

For the last 15 years, I’ve been fighting alongside you to expose what is happening to our food and demand better from the biggest food corporations in the world.

And the pressure has been building.

Food companies are removing artificial dyes. Americans are reading ingredient labels. And leaders in our government are working to close loopholes that allowed these chemicals into our food supply for decades.

But we have so much more work to do.

We have to keep pushing until every American knows what ultra-processed food really is and every family can walk into a grocery store and buy real food without worrying about the chemicals hidden inside it.

Please share my speech on Instagram, Facebook, X, or YouTube so we can keep the pressure on Big Food.

A New Groundbreaking Blood Test Can Detect Pancreatic Cancer With 97% Accuracy

Pancreatic cancer has one of the lowest survival rates of any cancer — largely because it's almost never caught early enough to treat effectively. But a new development in diagnostic medicine is turning heads in the oncology world, and it all starts with a routine blood draw. Scientists have identified a very specific molecular fingerprint hidden in the bloodstream that may allow doctors to spot this notoriously elusive disease far sooner than ever before. If the numbers hold up, this could reshape how we think about screening, prognosis, and the future of pancreatic cancer treatment entirely. Read on to find out how it works and what it could mean for patients.

Health "advice" is being thrown around by anyone these days.
A 30 second video tells you to drink something before a meal, add an ingredient to your coffee, or change the order you eat your food.
And that all sounds harmless, so you try it, and maybe you feel a little bit better.
Then you try another hack the next day because the algorithm served you a different one.
Without realizing it, you have turned your own body into the testing ground.
The problem is that the algorithm does not know your medications, your medical history, your current blood sugar, or what else you are doing to change it.
It only knows that glucose hacks get clicks. The more dramatic the promise, the more likely the video is to spread.
And once thousands of people start commenting that a trick "worked for them," it becomes very easy to mistake popularity for evidence.
Dr. Rick Cohen's latest report examines seven blood sugar hacks that have exploded across social media and looks at what these recommendations leave out.
Before the algorithm gives you your next glucose experiment, see what Dr. Cohen wants you to know.

Here’s something that might change the way you think about back pain after 50:

By age 60, nearly 90% of people without back pain have signs of disc degeneration on an MRI.

Think about that for a moment.

If disc degeneration is so common… Even among people who feel perfectly fine,

Then why can one person have “degenerative discs” and stay active without a problem… while another struggles to bend, walk, sleep, or exercise?

Maybe the picture on the MRI isn’t telling the whole story.

Your spine is more than just the discs.
  • How your muscles support your spine…
  • How well you move…
  • Your physical capacity…
  • Your recovery…
And other factors can all influence how your spine functions, and how resilient it remains as you age.

And there’s something else worth thinking about:

What you do for your spine in your 30s, 40s, and 50s can help shape what your life looks like decades later.

Because getting older isn't just about the number on your birthday.

It's about whether you can still bend down to tie your shoes without hesitation.

Whether you can get down on the floor and play with your grandkids, and get back up again.

Whether you can go hiking, travel, garden, play golf, pick up your suitcase, or simply move through your day without constantly thinking about your back.

Those moments are easy to take for granted when your body is working well.

But maintaining your strength, mobility, and physical capacity as you age can make a meaningful difference in how much freedom you have to enjoy them.

That’s why I think this upcoming training is worth checking out.

>> Click here to discover the 4 key factors that can help you build a stronger, more resilient spine

Because the goal shouldn't simply be short-term relief.

It should be about building the strength, capacity, and resilience that can help you stay active and capable for years to come.

So you can keep saying yes to the things you love.

The adventures… Traveling… Activities.

And those little everyday moments with the people who matter most.

>> Click here to discover what your spine needs to stay strong, mobile, and resilient as you age

It's f.ree, but spots are limited.

If you're interested in understanding the bigger picture behind long-term spinal health, I think you'll find this training valuable.

⭐️ Bitter greens like rocket, dandelion, and arugula daily to stimulate your liver
⭐️ Move enough to break a light sweat — your skin is a major detox organ
⭐️ Five minutes of deep breathing morning and night to support your lungs and lymph

No cleanse required. Just consistent daily support.

Hey there,

Imagine looking at the dashboard of two identical cars. Both odometers read exactly 50,000 miles. On paper, these cars are the exact same age with the exact same wear and tear.

But now, look at the speedometers. Car A is cruising gently at 40 miles per hour, while Car B is redlining at 120 miles per hour on a dirt road. Which engine breaks down first?

In human longevity, we obsess over the odometer - our chronological age. But groundbreaking new science reveals that we should actually be looking at our speedometer. Your "Pace of Aging" is exactly how fast your body is currently wearing down, and it turns out this single metric is the ultimate predictor of your future health span.

The Biological Speedometer

For decades, doctors have used your birthdate to guess your risk for chronic disease. We assume that turning 50 or 60 automatically triggers conditions like heart disease, diabetes, or dementia. But time itself is not what damages our bodies; the real damage comes from cellular wear and tear accumulating over that time.

In a recent landmark study, researchers uncovered a reliable way to measure this exact rate of cellular decline. They call it the Pace of Aging. Unlike standard biological age tests that give you a static snapshot, the Pace of Aging actually measures your velocity.

It tells you if you are aging at a normal rate of one biological year per chronological year, or a dangerous 1.2 years. The findings from this human research are staggering, showing that people with a faster Pace of Aging did not just look older on the outside. They were significantly more likely to develop chronic diseases much earlier in life.

These individuals experienced faster cognitive decline and early signs of physical disability. Essentially, a fast biological speedometer predicts a shorter, sicker life, regardless of what your birth certificate says.

How Scientists Measure Your Pace

So, how do scientists actually measure this hidden rate of decline? They look at a highly complex web of biomarkers across multiple organ systems. They track heart health, kidney function, lung capacity, and even the tiny blood vessels in your eyes.

By analyzing how these systems degrade, they pinpoint exactly how fast your biological clock is ticking. This isn't a theory based on mice in a lab; this is hard data drawn from long-term human studies. Researchers tracked thousands of individuals to see how their bodies changed year by year.

The results prove that aging is not a fixed, unavoidable cliff you fall off at age 65. It is a highly moldable, dynamic process that you can actively influence.

Reality Check: No Magic Pills

We must manage our expectations. There is no magic pill, experimental injection, or secret bio-hack that will instantly slow your Pace of Aging to a crawl. While this new science is incredibly promising, it does not mean we have cured aging.

What it does mean is that we finally have a highly accurate warning system. Think of it as a biological check-engine light. If your pace is moving too fast, you have a window of opportunity to hit the brakes before chronic disease sets in.

What You Can Do Today

The best news is that your Pace of Aging is largely determined by lifestyle, not just genetics. Here are effective, evidence-based protocols to start slowing your pace today:
  • Protect Your Sleep Consistency: Go to bed at the exact same time every night. Erratic sleep schedules confuse your circadian rhythm, which accelerates cellular stress and aging. Even a one-hour shift on the weekends can disrupt metabolic repair.
  • Build Functional Muscle Mass: Muscle is an essential metabolic sink that absorbs excess blood sugar and lowers systemic inflammation. Focus on heavy resistance training two to three times a week. The stronger your muscles, the more resilient your metabolic health remains as you age.
  • Manage Chronic Stress Levels: Acute stress is good, but chronic stress is highly toxic. Elevated cortisol levels rapidly accelerate the wear and tear on your DNA. Incorporate daily breathwork, meditation, or nature walks to actively down-regulate your nervous system.
  • Eat for Your Microbiome: A diverse gut microbiome directly correlates with a slower Pace of Aging. Feed your gut with fibrous plants, fermented foods, and healthy fats while avoiding ultra-processed foods.
  • Prioritize Cardiovascular Fitness: Your VO2 Max – how efficiently your body uses oxygen – is strongly linked to a slower biological pace. Regular Zone 2 cardio builds a massive foundation for heart, brain, and lung longevity.
Your chronological age is simply a number printed on a page. Your Pace of Aging is the actual, biological reality of your health. By making intentional, consistent choices today, you can actively slow down your biological speedometer. You might not be able to stop the odometer from turning, but you absolutely have a say in how smoothly the ride goes.
Yours in good health,

Quick question: if heart attacks were just random mechanical failures... worn parts finally giving out... why would they keep a schedule?

Because they do.

Researchers analyzed more than 10,000 of the most serious heart attacks, the kind where a major artery shuts down completely. The odds were about 13% higher on a Monday than any other day of the week. Sundays ran high too.

And it's not just the day. Your risk between 6am and noon runs about 40% higher than the rest of the day... highest of all in the first three hours after you wake up.

One more, and this one should stop you... the Monday after the clocks spring forward, when the whole country loses a single hour of sleep, heart attacks jump about 25%.

One hour of sleep.

Random failures don't check the calendar. Triggered ones do.

Every morning, your body runs the same startup sequence: stress hormones surge, blood pressure jumps, your heart shifts gears from rest to full demand. Add the Sunday-night dread of the week ahead and Monday morning becomes a stress test nobody signed up for. For a heart that's already quietly struggling, that's often the moment the struggle stops being quiet.

Here's the part that matters: a pattern with triggers is a pattern you can do something about. That's exactly the territory the eleven experts in the Love Your Heart Summit live in.

It's free to watch for 48 hours after you register:
https://loveyourheartsummit.com/

Inside, you'll hear:

  • What the Monday spike reveals about the stress-heart connection, from Dr. Rollin McCraty of the HeartMath Institute, who has spent 30 years researching how stress writes itself directly into your heart's rhythm... and the few quiet minutes a day his research points to
  • Why board-certified cardiologists Dr. Jack Wolfson and Dr. Joel Kahn say most "sudden" heart events were years in the making, and the early signals they look for that standard checkups skip
  • The morning surge: what's actually happening in your arteries in those first waking hours, and how the experts structure the start of their own day
  • The molecule your blood vessels make less of every year after 40, from Dr. Nathan Bryan, 25 years of research, trained under a Nobel laureate... and why mornings are when the shortage shows
  • What Dr. Stephen Hussey learned when a widowmaker nearly killed him at 34, weeks after his tests came back fine
Eleven experts. One weekend. Free for 48 hours after you register.

Monday morning is coming either way. The only question is what your heart knows about it that you don't... yet.

P.S. Sundays run above average too... researchers think it's the wind-up to the week that does it.

The only question is what your heart knows about it that you don't... yet.

🐿️ CREATURE FEATURE 🐿️

Stoat

The stoat is a ferocious little thing. Despite weighing less than half a pound, these thin hunters go after prey underground, through trees, or across open ground with relentless energy. In winter, they transform. Their coat turns pure white to blend with snow (click for pics), with only a black tail tip remaining visible. Stoats are quite territorial and solitary, with males constantly on the hunt.
Because of their narrow bodies, stoats slip into burrow systems where smaller rodents hide. They attack with a swift bite to the neck, and can take prey much larger than themselves (including rabbits and birds). The constant motion and high metabolic demands mean they hunt both day and night. Learn more about these fearless predators in the weasel family.

Medicinal Food Series Is A Must See

One of the biggest obstacles people face on their healing journey is budget. Herbal remedies and quality superfoods can add up fast.
A way to reframe it: if you have access to any grocery store, you've got a pharmacy. The produce aisle holds phytochemical power, and those dried spices?… Humans have leaned on them for thousands of years to prevent infection, ward off disease, and keep their bodies humming.
My friend Nick Polizzi (filmmaker and fellow herbal medicine enthusiast) created something you need to see: a series called Healing Kitchen: Let Food Be Thy Medicine. It's shot like a high-end Netflix show and features herbalists, chefs, holistic doctors, and wild food foragers walking through how to make medicinal foods and pantry remedies you can actually use.
All nine episodes are included when you explore the Healing Kitchen series. From brain health to hormone balance to preventing the diseases we see most often today, this is genuinely useful stuff.

When They Try To Sell The Sun

This is one of those stories that really should have been left to science fiction…
A company just got the green light to bounce sunlight down from space. Not metaphorically. A startup called Reflect Orbital received federal approval to launch a satellite that unfurls a giant thin-film mirror in orbit and aims a beam of reflected sunlight at a chosen spot on the ground, for a few minutes at a time. Their pitch is that they can sell sunlight on demand, lighting up solar farms after dusk, stretching the growing season on shaded fields, even replacing streetlights.
What's Being Built
This is well past the ‘crazy idea’, or sketch-on-a-napkin phase. Regulators cleared the first satellite for launch THIS year, and the company wants tens of thousands more in orbit within a decade. Each mirror can light an area a few miles wide, then swivel to the next customer’s request. An early concept video pulled in hundreds of thousands of requests from people who wanted sunlight delivered to their exact spot on the map. Theoretically, it might at first sound like a good idea, somehow helpful to humanity: Light with no wires, beamed wherever it's wanted. Who could argue with more sun for crops that need it?
The trouble starts when you start asking the harder questions about how this tech could be abused, and what role the dark was naturally playing in the first place…and how that would be disrupted…

Mindful Eating: The New Diet Trend That’s Not a Diet

If every diet you've tried has left you frustrated, obsessive, or just plain hungry, there may be a reason none of them stuck — and it has little to do with your willpower. Mindful eating is gaining serious momentum as a research-backed approach that flips the entire dieting script, trading restriction and calorie math for something far more sustainable. The psychological and physical ripple effects it creates might surprise you. Read on to find out why scientists, nutritionists, and former chronic dieters are all paying close attention.

Have you noticed how midlife symptoms rarely seem to show up one at a time?

First, your energy starts disappearing.

Then your brain feels foggier.

Your sleep gets less reliable.

Your body starts holding onto weight differently, especially around your middle.

And suddenly the things you’ve always done to feel good don’t seem to work the same way anymore.

For so many women I talk to, this is the most frustrating part.

They’re still taking care of themselves.

They’re eating well. Moving their bodies. Taking supplements. Trying to get enough sleep. Doing their best to manage stress.

But they’re getting a completely different response from their body than they used to.

So they start trying to fix each problem separately:

  • A supplement for energy.
  • A new diet for the weight.
  • Something else for sleep.
  • Another strategy for hormones.
And before long, their health has become one more full-time job they’re somehow supposed to manage.

But what if these problems aren’t actually separate?

That’s the conversation I want to have with you in my new free live masterclass:

The Hidden Connection Between Fatigue, Brain Fog, and Weight Gain After 40

I’m going to show you how changes in your hormones, metabolism, brain, sleep, muscle, and stress response can begin affecting one another during midlife.

More importantly, I’ll help you figure out where to focus first so you’re not trying to overhaul everything at once.

Because you don’t need 27 more things to add to your routine!

You need to know which things are most likely to move the needle for your body now.

If you’re tired of wondering why you’re working so hard and still not feeling like yourself, I’d love for you to join me!

And yes, if you can’t attend live, register anyway. We’ll send you the replay.

Hi Jimi,

For millennia, every major civilization understood the same truth: food is medicine.

Somewhere along the way, we forgot. We started mass-producing food with artificial ingredients, dyes, and pesticides. We traded nourishment for convenience and our health paid the price.

But the ancient wisdom was right. Modern science confirms it: the key to good health is nutrient-dense, whole, consciously-created food.

That's what Healing Kitchen: Let Food Be Thy Medicine explores. A free 9-part docuseries screening that shows you how to turn your kitchen into a sanctuary of natural wellness.
You'll discover:
  • Plant-based healing recipes that target specific health conditions
  • Ancient kitchen remedies that improve brain function and memory
  • How to support your microbiome through real food
  • Foods that prevent and heal disease like Alzheimer's, heart disease, diabetes, autoimmune conditions, and more
  • How vibrant foods transform your skin, energy, and aging
The series features farm-to-table chefs, herbalists, wild food foragers, natural doctors, and holistic nutritionists sharing practical wisdom you can use immediately.

It's food the way it was meant to be, whole, vital, and healing.
