The naaa Phillip is talking about is "no ass at all". I tell him he must be sweating his balls off, since he has no ass.

I make leather holsters for mods we want to carry. They don't fire the mods up. Phillip seems to think I can make money making them, in an environment where everybody is a bargain hunter.

Might sell some.
But as you should have figured out by now I am a tight assed bastard :)

Maybe we should start a Tight-Assed Bastards Club? My budget says I can only buy that which I really need and nothing just because I want it. And, even if I decided I needed a leather mod holster, I'd get out my huge leather craft toolbox and make it myself. Sorry, no potential customers here.

Unfortunately I have to buy more things becuase of my growing decrepancy.

looking at residing the end of the house that got singed by the shop fire...
Going to use concrete lap siding. But driving all those nails with a hammer? naah.
Have to buy a nail gun....

Sounds like a matter of "need," Crom. How does this concrete siding work? Nails? I have some plywood-sized concrete panels used for skirting on a mobile home. Trying to use a nail on that stuff just shatters it. It was necessary to drill a pilot and use screws.

I got very good at making things I need. Too bad I suck at making clothes and shoes. A girl always needs more clothes and shoes.

Just drive a nail thru it unless really close to the edge no problem.
it is concrete with wood fibers to make it less brittle.
They make similar stuff with fiberglass in it for tile backing boards.
I had used 4x8 sheets of the stuff in Florida. But this is lap siding.
Will also have to but 2 little clip on tools to allow one person to hang the stuff. $130 for those tools.

will borrow my neighbors bobcat to bury the old asbestos laden stuff that is on there.
He has a nice track style bobcat.

I know "fiber cement" can be nailed, but Crom said "concrete," which is not the same, and my experience with "concrete" siding was that it cannot be nailed. I am talking about something from 10-12 years ago, not the modern fiber stuff.

concrete/cement both portland cement based?
I guess concrete has rocks in it though....
The wood fiber makes it so you can nail it.
I think....

The James Hardie Planks.

Cement is an ingredient of concrete - they are often used synonymously, but are not the same thing

Has anyone heard about the concrete foam that they have come out with

Go to youtube and look up DIY aircrete - this stuff has been giving me really big ideas

Afraid I am not into modern building materials, except what I might see in Handyman magazine now and then, but I don;t go looking for it because I am a recycler. Tear down an old shed and run those boards through the planer and saws and make new boards, so essentially I am still using just plain old wood wood. I have also made a few board with logs run through my band saw. Pain to do it, but sure makes some pretty wood, so it typically gets used only for things like mod holders or picture frames.

How can they say it's concrete but made of foam I think it would break easily wouldn't it

You can infuse cement with foam, add wood or other aggregate and the dried product has almost all the compressive strength of concrete but at a fraction of the weight - and cost

You can mix it with horse shit if you want, still works well...just takes some time to "cure"....or rid the stretch...:giggle:

ICF homes are extremely energy efficient, but still costly.

You won't find a wood framed home in Ecuador, unless it was built 100 yrs ago...their building codes only allow reinforced CMU, meaning all the block cells are filled with concrete & rebar, or the entire house is poured reinforced concrete.

Funny how that works... this house has 2x4 framing that is actually 2x4 (not today's 1.5x3.5) -- rough cut -- obviously not from a mill. The siding is real wood lap with nails that I have to pound back in after ever really nasty wind storm (house vibration shakes things apart). Built in 1930.

In south america, it's the earthquakes and termites which destroy things. But in the good ole u s of a...nothing wrong with a good 2x12 stick built home, especially in desert regions, where you can stuff the walls with insulation.....:)

I know there is insulation in the attic (only accessible from a small port outside up near the roof), but I think they did the walls with old T-shirts and beer cans. You cannot get a radio signal through the walls here. Radio only works in the house if you sit the set in a window.

That sounds like like my old house.
