Anyone else here spend years digging into genealogy?
I was told by my parents what their ancestry was (they're both dead now), so when ya put it all together, I am (supposedly) 1/4 Swedish, 1/4 Danish, 1/8 German, 1/8 Dutch, 1/8 Irish, and 1/8 Cherokee Indian. But the bottom line is that I don't care - not even a little bit. I was born in Orygun, my father was born in Washington, my mother was born in New Mexico. I am 100% American. I don't give a rip about finding my long lost ancestors in any of those other countries, don't care who they were or what they did or what their religions or politics were or whether they were scientist or farmers or any of that crap. I know who and what I am and they had nothing to do with it, so they are totally irrelevant. And DNA tests are total bullshit because they won't tell you much beyond that you are 17% eastern European, 10% African, 19% Pacific islander, etc. and you have no way of knowing whether or not they made that up and didn't test your blood at all. If what my parents said is true, about all a DNA test could tell me is that I was a Viking who flirted with an Indian somewhere in Oklahoma. BFD. But for those of you who seem to have a need, just keep paying for tests that don't really tell you anything and you can change your lederhosen to kilts with misplaced pride. No offense intended.

From what I could dig up, my family is German and Dutch. I am the oddball, since my father was 1/2 Mohawk. By the time I was 3 months old, my mom divorced him.

I could also give a crap and have solidly resisted efforts by people who won't mind their own beeswax to be DNA tested

But Mr Juicy fulfilled a lifelong dream of finding his birth mother through DNA testing, and that made him happy.

It's not for me though - I dislike the vast majority of my relatives and doubt I'd like those that came before them anyways

I found my birth mother through Child Services. Never been DNA tested, as it is a waste of money for me.

He'd made periodic moves towards getting his original birth certificate unsealed by the courts, but always stopped short of following through with it

I'd never encouraged or discouraged it - having seen others do it and be first happy, then regretting it or finding out things that were disturbing, I thought it was not a good idea, especially as his adoptive parents were wonderful.

Then he went and got DNA tested, and bingo, a month later his birth mother (still alive!) pops up. She'd been trying to find him for about 20 years she said. I do not think they will ever meet in person though - as I feared, she is kinda looney, very twitchy.

It has been a very weird year for this kind of thing

We are going to meet his half brother next week though. To show you how weird it is, there is also a second brother from her, but they (the mom and brother we are meeting) are keeping Mr Juicy's existence secret from this other brother :slowclap: If that doesn't spell disfunction, I don't know what does o_O

Fortunately (I think, lol) his biological father died in a car crash in the early 60s and no family from that side has popped up on the DNA thing

Besides, the guy was a creep - married man knocks up a teenager and left her holding the bag:mad:

Things turned out good for me. My mother and I became the best of friends. I also get along with the brother and sister she had by another husband. My father died in 1999, before I found my mother.
Good riddance to him. The reason they got divorced, was because the ass hat tried to kill me as a baby. That was also why I was adopted out.

I iz tired and sore.
Moved stuff in basement most of day and moved 10 wheelbarrow loads of mud.

Know I'm bit late but watch yourself. I was up in the wood barn/shed and did very little with a hatchet, nicking up some kindling. Wound up getting the 'shakies' and feeling a bit woozy. Setting on my little no ass, ass fortunately. Figured it was call it, go enjoy Easter/Ostara dinner.

Not sure exactly what that 'shakies' crap is, dreading that I do know and rather not think about those silly things called 'mild' strokes. That's the shit of it all, eat right, pray right, exercise right, walk right, do right, ... die anyway. May as well enjoy some of the 'ride'. Still we all gotta take it 'easy'. ;) :)

So getting a busted noggin makes one a dolphin fucker? First fell on my head at two years old (and many times since). It took nearly fifty years for the bump to totally disappear. Never dated a dolphin. Are they any good?

Heck no, it weren't me what got buggered by a dolphin. Somebody looked something up on the Google monster and got back video results of a chick getting boned by Flipper. I thought it was "Hi larious". Did hear about a guy that lost an arm to a mama dolphin though. She climaxed on him and ripped his arm plum off in the thrashings.

Kind of doubt anybody would try a male dolphin. Seen a gal taking a horse recently. No, not sure why I watched but the whole train wreck thing, um, geeze. Dolphin guys are hung at least twice as much as horses, imagine when they tossed you could launch to orbit. I'm into being a good 'toon and such but no thanks, I'll stick to my narrow ways of not involving other critters except humans. Even then, I guess sometimes that could be bad enough.

I think that's Bob (@The Cromwell ) what spells dysfunction, when he asks me to wear the fishnets. He don't often but it happens on odd Blue Moon occasions. Have to remind him I'm a mutant anyway. Of course, between us when we notice the extra few testicles it can be rather interesting trying to figure out pretzels.

Besides, the guy was a creep - married man knocks up a teenager and left her holding the bag:mad:

Proof the whole concept of honor/honour is fleeting away from society by and large. My answer to it? Here ya go, pass it to @Jimi so he can go to sleep a bit better tomorrow. :) If we the common folk bring back common sense/cents/scents and can also commonly spread the Love, I think even though we're all being told we lost, we'll win anyway. :)

Ultimately it's going to come to a WAR ON WAR! You'll have those what want war even knowing it only serves the pharisees (parasites) and them what don't want any more war beating the swords to plough shares.

Of course I'm sure the pharisees long go thought it out, "there'll be a time when they get wise to us and not fight wars", why else is there a big push now to automate, robot everything? Human beings are now obsolete if you really ponder it a bit. I'm just debating over if that's a 'good' thing or 'bad' one. Bah, way to deep, way too much caca ... "Okay Google, tell me a joke." :p :)

Good morning. I see I missed a bit of discussion last night. Just couldn't stay up. Exhausted.

Not trying to convince anyone of anything, re genealogy and DNA. It's just a thing I enjoy knowing about and don't regret putting my time and my mind into it. I really thought most older folks were interested, but hey, it's my misunderstanding, obviously. No worries from me; we all like what we like.

Work time in 15 minutes and I've had no breakfast, so I'm off. Hope you all have a great day.

I too am a bit interested regarding the whole testing of DNA to trace back ethnic roots. That noted though I'm also kind of wary of it. The Federals have my DNA from 20 some odd years ago before I started taking testosterone, and testosterone I'm told is a genetic recumbent meaning it alters one's genetic structure. My DNA gets tampered with daily as one of our local hospital nurses put it, I mainline 'The steroid' daily. My wariness not only stems from such altercations, I'm wary too that any information regarding my genetics could be used maliciously against me.

My DNA damn it, is MY DNA and not data I prefer to let others turn into a weapon against me albeit perhaps a 'soft weapon' for a 'silent war'. It is something mine, as in sacred between me and whatever created me be it star dust or be it some 'grand' entity I do not know. Bad enough 'they' have me on testosterone as a 'quality of life' medicine, don't need 'them' fucking around with it any further. I do though understand the cosmic futility of such a ravings of between me and 'them', we all being one. Still this is something I get hung up on, call me human.

That is merely my Agnostic view of it, don't get me started on a Gnostic view of it or even a Pegan view of it and Dianic Wicca at that. Yes, I know that I am often seen as contradictory, even self defeating. That to me only enforces and demonstrates the humanity within and without. I dislike the concept of duality very much as it misses the boat in my view, we need balance to walk a third path, often dubbed the Left Hand or Sinister Path. No, before it is brought up that path is not a 'debil worshiping' one although Lucifer is regarded on it, not in any Jewish or Christian sense though.

Which brings up a nugget of history I find of interest. It was Jason of the Argonauts which first stated the gods were all dead. This was stated in response to someone suggesting he go pray to this god or that goddess in order to ensure a successful journey. He was quite adamant in the stating of it too, even so far as saying we, mankind are now our own gods. He in effect did a Marylin Manson,
♪♫♬"I went to God just to see/There in the mirror I was looking back at me/When I'm God we all die!"♪♫♬ Much as Marylin Manson can be debated, criticized as being this or that ... one thing I find sure, he does fire a diverse intellect when he creates like that.

Bah. I am going to digress, need some :coffee: and to get some housekeeping done. Beside that the subject matter is starting to wane to Talk Origins & here is not there. :) I think by far for myself the Gorge and Wasp Nano RDAS are in the lead as being preferred. Still get a Velocity clone out once in a bit, or use a Goon LP. But lately the Gorge and Wasp been tending me well. Also, I am blaspheming against the Church of Rayon. I got a lifetime supply of Muji cotton pads, 180 of those pads. *chuckles* Not sure why but the cotton to me does a bit better. Of course, I'm sure we can make holy wars out of it. Quick reminder though.

what's everyone doing tonight
Recovering from shoveling a lot of snow. Yesterday's forecast said nothing about snow today. This morning's forecast said a couple inches during the day, starting about 1 PM. Snow started about 10 AM and never stopped. There's about 6" of new stuff (in areas that were dry ground yesterday) with drifts over a foot deep, and now the forecast says it won't stop snowing until tomorrow morning. I reckon we'll wake up to more than a foot with, likely, drifts a couple feet deep. I guess Winter is not done with us yet.

Well that sucks we have had 8 times the snow this year as we did last year, been an unusual year this year for sure

We haven't really had more snow this year, but it is kind of like the seasons shifted by six weeks. Winter started later and lasted longer. According to the weather records Lannie has been keeping, this winter has been significantly colder and for longer periods of time than any we have had here in the 14 years we have lived on this spot.

That's the white stuff you see on the ground in movies where people are skiing and sledding and having lots of fun. Seldom do they make snow movies that show ranchers trudging through a blizzard trying to feed their animals, but it is, essentially, the same white shit.
Ah. I understand "white shit". I dealt with that everywhere I lived before moving to Texas.

Here winter started earlier and has lasted longer and been been colder than usual for here anyway, last year was unusally milder only had 5 - 6 inches of snow all last winter

Yeah when you get to the Old Phart age you try to forget what that shit is
I remember back in... uh, 1980-85... looking forward to winter so I could get my ass up the mountain and ski all day (both Alpine and Nordic) or do cross-country hikes with snowshoes. Tried snowshoes here on the farm when some of the drifts went high enough that the horses could walk out OVER the fences and I had to go put up more fencing on top of the existing fences. That was no longer fun. Come to think of it, I haven't had any fun in the snow since I hung up my skis. I still use the poles, however, to keep myself upright while trudging out to the barns. Today, it is very easy for me to say I hate this white shit and sincerely wish I lived back in the desert of Arizona.

Hell. I recall having to walk 12.5 miles to town, and then back wearing crampons because the roads were covered in ice. Some areas had a 30 degree incline.
