Hey so out of curiosity guys, I know certain mech mods get mentioned a lot in this thread and with the new FDA regs looming and the uncertainty that comes with that, I'd like to get a couple of good mechs in case the worst possible scenario comes to be. I'm thinking one good series mod and one good parallel mod. What are you guys' recommendations? I'm thinking of grabbing a noisy cricket or two and maybe looking at a HoG?
I'd grab a Diablo, Tres Equis, Castigador, Dimitri, Noisy Cricket, Abaddon, Anubis, Lethal, Subzero Tube, VCT Tubes and a HOG...just to be certain if SHTF your covered for a while and those mods have the least amount of parts and can be easily fixed if it breaks.
For RDA's I would pick up a Petri, Velocity, Baal V3, Magma Reborn, Twisted Messes Squared, Goon, Mason 24mm
For RTA's I would pick up a Boreas, Supreme, Griffin 22mm, Alleria, and a Diablo

While the FDA doesn't hold court here in Canada the amount of new gear available moving forward will be greatly reduced if there is no U.S. market for them. Sad day.

Id emphasise the twisted messes stuff since you can pick up the repair kits up too. They'll last forever

I got some 316L the other day. This is only my 2nd build with the material. I did a mixed loose twist with 2x 26g 316L, 2x 28g N80, and 2x 30g K1. 2.4mm ID and ohms at 0.27.

I was hoping to get a range of colors by mixing the materials, but had a hotspot mid coil and by the time I got that out I'd blown through all the 316L colours. I'll try like this again soon.

well damn. Ok so I have 2 NCs coming and 2 different HoG clones, a tres equis clone, and a Lucifer clone all on the way. RTAs I'm good on. I have a pretty big selection even though I'm primarily using RDAs at this point. Already have a Petri and a Goon, and I still love my Troll. lol I'm totally copying this list. I'll probably end up buying most of it, as far as budget allows me to.

If your getting the Diablo, FT has a Full Brass version that is a must! Its built like a tank and its VERY SIMPLE in design and it hits like a train, for $29...Im picking up the Full Copper Dimitri they have also, maybe the Copper Cherry Bomb too....

This fda shit is going to be a short term boon for the vaping industry. Demand will increase exponentially, supply will dwindle and dry up, and as a result prices will go up - way up. Hopefully it doesn't go full blown like the gun market when new restrictions are looming. We'll have the equivalent of $2,000 rack grade AR's, and no ammo available. But it appears the feeding frenzy has begun, so get it while you can. These situations become a self fulfilling prophecy.

Are you referring to the 18th ammendment? Yeah, I think most people know that it was repealed (21st ammendment).

whats the smallest gauge you have used the spool tamer drone on @raymo2u ? does it work with something like 40g? what about non-round cores like fused claptons or staples?

36g but I wouldnt use anything thinner then that without having it set up loosely or it could break if it snags at all, I made a staggerton with the method yesterday...

so i did a two core alien tonight with 26 and my wraps did that mohawk thing. i de-cored a 26g clapton for my alien and went ahead like i did with the three core version. everything looked fine until i started wrapping the coils. what is the procedure for intentionally making that happen?

It causes the effect. Basically, by understretching, there's not enough stretched wire to form a normal alien, so the excess forms a triangle around the cores. Some people also refer to this as a Prometheus coil.

thanks for the advice sir. is there an easy way to see if you stretched properly? when i made my three core version i stretched the alien out and laid it horizontally across my cores and it fit right in, so i tried wrapping it and it worked. im guessing thats a good indicator, but i did the same this time and shit went crazy. i had a hell of a time getting that wrap de-cored though, maybe i fucked it up somehow before i even stretched it...

I used it with 40k last night wrapping up some 3x28k/40k 7 wrap at 3mm for my conqueror last night. First time using the spool tamer. Worked great! Quash I got them months ago!

Like @raymo2u said, keep it on the loose side so not to break the wire.

It sucks, but just trial and error until you get a feel for it. You'll go through a lot of wire figuring it out, but once you do it gets pretty easy to do.

Next time you're doing (or anyone) some 3x28/38 aliens could you post a pic of properly stretched decore? I enjoy learning things by trial and error and the satisfaction derived, but don't always want to reinvent the wheel.:D Seeing a picture might help to get in the ballpark....

These aren't "MY" builds, but they are my builds now haha! @Poppa (K) was generous enough to PIF me some of his coils (Instagram CoilPorn, Cast off coils, Glowshot Coils, ETC), so I'd like to show my appreciation, and show off a few of them (I've only installed a few, gonna take a while to try out all these bad boys :p). Gotta give props to my fellow Canuck, these coils are performing great! Check out his Insta for more!

First try at what Im calling a @f4rr3ll Build! This was probably the most difficult thing so far for me to pull off...the biggest difficulty was to keeo it all together in my fingers while I made little braces to hold it for the outer wrap...
Specs: 28 x .6R/34N80/24N80/38N80

Looks hella sexy. What is it exactly? Looks like stacked ribbon inside framed with corrugated ribbon, flat ribbon and some round. Did you wrap the center ribbon stack separately? Looks like it.

Anyways though, thats a lotta wire in one coil lol, is it even vapable?

My wire specs were: 28 x .6R/34N80/24N80/38N80 (.6 Ribbon Parts: 4 Corrugated, 4 for Framing, 20 for the Staggerton Core). I had to start with a Staggered Staple, then Corrugate the Ribbon, then Frame the Corrugated Ribbon then put up the Round wire and then wrap it all up....next time Ill stagger the round wire also, this was just a test to see if I could pull it off.
I was going for this here, but with my own twist on the Staggerton/Corrugated Wire:

Very nice, thank you. So it looks like it is stretched less for the wider fused staple which seems kind of counter intuitive, but kind of hard to tell from the video.
Its the same size...alien is stretched the same, These are CMMRVapor's vids I clipped. You measure the wrap on top of the cores and try to stretch it to lay over them flat and then naturally wrap around.

So, I've been wondering about this for a while. Are there any coiling kits that use ceramic rods instead of steel ones? I'd think it'd be very useful to be able to fire with the rod still in the coil, especially for the smaller builds. Anyways, curious if anyone has seen anything like this.

So... Aliens... I've seen a lot of guides/demonstrations/pictures, wouldn't mind more before I start this known to be frustrating journey. Anyone have a favorite guide/video? My goal is 3X 32-34gSS Aliens (yes I'm all about the high resistance builds lately). Bought some 36g Kanthal just to practice... Probably would be easier to practice with even lower, but I'm a sink or swim kind of guy. I would go with my 40g spools but they're acting up lately with tangles and what not, being right fargin icehole bastiges.

@JERUS just do it man. i was all psyched out when i was getting ready to try it and i just said fuck it and went for it. if its gonna work, it will be just like wrapping a fused clapton. if your wraps are not right it simply wont work. you can see if its going to work or not right away. on the set i made last night i was under stretched. my first inch or so of wraps didnt 'catch' so i backed it off and cut the busted part off the wrap, set it all back in the drill and tried again after a little more stretch. it worked but i got that mohawk effect (which indicates i still didnt stretch enough). they still vape like a boss though. thats my advice after making my first two sets. take it with a grain of salt ;)

edit - post a pic of your damn staple coil dude

Look up CMMRVapor on youtube, his videos are great...

Looky what I made tonight...it was a failed first attempt becuase my spacing on the Staple Core wasnt right but I know next time how much space I need...

No macro lens, so it'd be shitty, but I'll put up what I got. They don't look much different than my 24g FCs I did up last night, just a tad thicker.

You betcha! :D, All my other atomizers are set up too well, figured I'd go with the second deck of the Boreas to give it a whirl.

Ive broke tips on a couple of them..but I always have refiled them back to matching lengths...
Haha, I've abused mine plenty over the months, well, finally broke the tip! Of course the day I say it isn't going to happen. I'd still love a 3mm and 3.5mm ceramic rod for my 28-32g+ core wires at least.

Yea it would be nice for after you coil on the steel to swap it out to ceramic to fire it on of needed....

Yup, I just could see plenty of advantages to it. Trying to pull and stretch a coil of 24g with ceramic may be an issue, but with thinner more pliable wire, it could be quite nice.

Works extremely well on my Tres Equis! Gotta love this setup. Slowly phasing out my regulated mods for my regular usage. Time to pick up another Tres Equis and a Lucifer

I may have found a decent 30mm Tank.

The Modfather Tank!

317L SS 27x2/36 fused Clapton's, she is easy to build on, easy to wick, no leaks so far and Vaping very well.

::Grooved-fused Claptons::
Normal 28/38g Claptons placed side by side and fused with 44g SS. The 44g sits in the tiny grooves made by the 38g. The original Claptons are not spaced in any way.

This build clocked in at .43Ω for the dual coil setup. PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH IF YOU PLAN TO USE THIS FOR A SERIES BUILD!! IT MAY NOT BE SAFE FOR EVERY BATTERY :p

This is a killer build. They trap a TON of juice, making for unbelievable flavor. Vapor output is very impressive as well. Though they appear simple, they were a huge challenge to get a near-perfect set. Well worth the trouble. Definitely two thumbs up
