Now I have to get one those macro lenses or w/e so you can actually see what the coils look like. They look like reg round wire in this picture. They are actually SS316L 2x28/36 fused claptons. Used a Deadalus so I guess that's cheating. But my first attempt and wound up with 3 usable coils! Ultimate goal is aliens though, deadalus isn't going to make those on auto pilot, but the decore should be fairly simple to make lol.
TBH, if you can't make the decore without the daedalus, finishing the aliens will be impossible. I personally cannot see how one could possibly successfully wrap an alien without being able to knock out a fused clapton with just swivels. Just my honest take.
I wouldn't say it is cheating to use the daedalus. Way better than buying mass produced coils. Is using swivels cheating? Just using a tool to complete a task.
Hopefully using the daedalus will make something "click" with you how easy making claptons and fused claptons can be. Everyone started riding a bike with training wheels. Figure that out, then try to take the training wheels off.
I know when I started making claptons and fused, I was trying way to hard. Trying to control the wrap, instead of letting it wrap itself. And maybe watching the daedalus in action will reinforce this idea. If you try to micro-manage wrapping aliens, it will not end well.
When making claptons without the daedalus:
1) dont pull tension on the core wire. Just pull the drill enough to keep the core wire straight, but a slight slack in the swivels
2) hold the spool of wrap around 90degrees from the core. About a foot away from the core. With a very bare minimum of tension. Almost hard to hold the spool so lightly.
3) let the drill go. At least medium speed. Keep your head back from the wire. Don't try to manage the wraps. Just let the drill do it's thing.
