I hear you man but I really think it was the swivels this time. This is some pretty basic stuff that I have done too many times to count and I did everything the same. The only variable was the swivels. I must say I love the idea of having a dedicated vice for the drill to make sure you don't pull to hard though. I'm going to defiantly get setup like that. Thank you for that, I think it will save a lot of time in the future.

When you build just pull the slack out and don't pull harder. I use a mouse pad upside-down so my drill is stuck to the rubber side and I can slide it on the table.
The drill really holds it's own tension if I just keep my hand on it.

Yeah I'm pretty sure I'm putting too much tension either on my drill or on my spool because the wire will often snap out of the drill, which completely throws off what I'm doing. If I were to put one of my freehanded wires and one of my swiveled wires side by side and post a pic of them, you would be able to tell which method I used with which wire because the swiveled wire has small gaps because my wire snapped and it threw off what I was doing.

I experimented a bit with the "demon killer" wire I had lying around. This is the "storebought" fused clapton wire I used before I came here. I wanted to get rid of it because I've got too much extra wire that I'm no longer going to use once I run out. These topped out at around 0.19 ohms. The performance on these is

So just a quick update going back to a previous discussion. Gun oil worked awesome for my swivels. Now after soaking them these tsunamis are actually performing really well. Made an alien wire earlier with less twist than normal for me and I was using 28gss instead of my normal 26!

I made these just to mess around with taking pictures with better lighting. I ended up using a lamp above and an led shop flashlight thing below. I used toilet paper around everything to soften the light lol. I'm working on getting a better light setup but in the meantime my ghetto setup is helping and it's a lot of fun seeing improvement.

I've been practicing a bit off-site and came up with a fairly sexy pair.
Glad to see your still working on it! Just for reference if you look at the top coil the leg and 1st wrap on the left are a good example of how tight the claptoning should be all the way

Lol ok since I posted that i saw a set of SFC 22/32 8mm and 6or 7 wrap. But the guy was using a crazy 700wt pwm lipo box to power them. So i think hes got you beat Manny! Btw what I really want to know is how burnt your cotton gets in the middle of those snakes. I have a hard time believing that cotton can wick that far into such a long coil.

Pwms have a lot of power..... So in order to use them safely and to get the right amount of clouds you have to build insane shit.......

Nice build!

How long did it take to make?
Takes the guy like 30 minutes..... Once these fuckers build several hundred of these they can tell how much, type of wire and wraps and gauge of wire to ohm at a specific range..... amazing shit... They think like an electrician.......

Need a better camera setup cause this phones cam is shiite. Basic staggered fused clapton. 2 x 28g 316L SS wrapped with 32g Ni80. Running multiple swivels helped make the wraps on this so easy the whole finished wrap could slide off the cores. 3 in series then 2 in parallel with another 1 in series on those. Seems to work better without twisting up the cores and putting tension in them.

@KarmicRage Man that's a crazy swivel setup! I think I will try that to reduce the twist in my wires that I have to straighten out. As far as
The pics go I have been using a normal galaxy smartphone with an Amazon macro lens and lamps/flashlights with tp over it for the light.

Edit: this is the macro lense with the wide angle on it.

I saw a builder online using multiple in series and if 1 stuck another would kick in. Never seen a parallel setup for swivels before but been trying to find a way to make triple cores and quad cores easier to keep straight. Still have to use ceramic tweezers every inch or so at this point. Still experimenting with swivel setups though so might have an update on this in the future.

He'll yeah, keep me posted. As of now I just use 2 In series. Btw I edited that post with a pic of the lens I use. Pretty much anything like that with good reviews should do the trick for you then it's just lighting wich I'm still trying to get better at.

Also the glass on my camera is smashed. I do have a set of lenses like that but they aren't working properly. Were only a cheap set though so might have to invest a bit more money in a set of them as it's cheaper than the DSLR I've been looking at haha. I'll try using the toilet paper idea to soften the light around next time. There's a really bright light I've got by Manfrotto that I think might do the trick for me like. Thanks for the tips. I'll give them a try and update as I go.

Thx man. I'm honestly only making them because other ppl just want aliens and I would like these to be second nature for future builds. I almost always run sfc or some variation of that. I'm working towards staggered aliens.

Don't need a reason to build, I've got a little gift box full of wires that I just had the urge to fuck around with haha. I need to get aliens down smooth as fuck before I try the next coil I want to. Keep us posted with your staggered alien progress :D

@Eggen That trick with the toilet paper worked brilliantly for those lenses I had already. I'm no photographer so I'd never thought about makeshift setups for this before. Need to work on getting it better in focus like. Working my way tiny with this wire, just need to tweak what I'm doing to get that bottom one down properly. Onwards and upwards..... gauges that is haha.

Upon re inspection away from the camera it looks like more wraps than 7 wraps would fit but I can't bear to tear the little alien coil I've got in there out just yet to find out... or the length of wire to wrap round a drill bit for that matter :/ haha

Sounds like you need to buy yourself a new tank so you don't have to pull the aliens out!

that must be it. If it'd been 2 years ago I would have probably done just that but atm times are tough and there are 3 cymbals on my more expensive hobby that need replacing....The moths are already forming in my pockets

Think I finally got it. At least it's starting to look like what I've seen in the videos, and it definitely feels different from what I've been doing. The claptoning came undone on one of the wraps tho, I'm not sure if it was when I was wrapping the coil or when I was putting it into my RDA.

These came out to .2 ohms.

Im looking forward to getting one. I usually have my af set on the mid to tight range and from the sounds of it thats what the dpro does well. Whats you opinion of its airflow?

Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
I think you'll like it. The airflow is a bit tight for me, but definitely usable. And no whistling, which makes me happy. :D

Just 1 question....How's it vape? :)

Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk

Tastes quite good actually. Got my Circus Coconut Cake in here and it's really bringing out the taste. Please excuse the spackle dust on my clothes, I've been patching up drywall in my fiancee's new home. It's got a bit of a long ramp up tho. It was confusing at first because I thought I had effed up my coil because it wasn't firing. I had to go up pretty high (84w) to get it to glow.

Yeah! MUCH better! Still freehand? What wrap wire are you using?

Well, I've been wanting to use up the wire that came with my new coil kit, so the cores are 24g Kanthal. Still using the same 38g SS wrap. Yeah I freehanded these. Seems much easier when you use larger gauge wire, although perhaps it's just me.

Yes it is easier at 1st but once you get the feel and know the things to look for you can make corrections before it becomes a mistake. Lighter wire will come with time. At least your using a reasonable size wrap wire. Too many start out with 32 & 34g

This. I started with 34g and very quickly went smaller and now everything is 40/42g. Now me and my wifes everyday coils are kanthal aliens which i favor the 38g more just way more durable (for me) i cant get a decent life out of 40g+ aliens.

Yep, just as I thought. Switch back to the 28g NiChrome wire, and all the problems start happening again. Can't seem to get a good rhythm going with this wire. So 24g is going to be the ideal size core wire for me to work with.

Now to figure out what to do with the extra 60ft of NiChrome I've got.

Coil porn is fun, but to me performance is the main thing. So, I decided to visit an "old friend" so to speak. The staged fused Clapton coil is a fantastic performer for various uses. It used to be my go-to coil about a year and a half ago, but haven't really tried it again until recently. This one is for a tube mech, and has incredible flavor and quite respectable clouds. Ramp up is almost instantaneous. And for the folks that are still learning to build, they're real easy to make once you have the basic Clapton skills.

This build is 2x29KA1/42N80, 26N80 staging wire, 3.0mm ID, 6/7 wraps, 0.20Ω

Hey, how would that do if you were to twist or helix the bare wire? Is it possible to double-helix?
It would completely ruin the whole pretext of the build. It would lose its efficiency.

Simple twisted parallel with Clapton in the Wasp Nano. Amazing how different builds, even simple ones, bring out different flavors in juices. I didn't like Payday much from Broke Dick but with this one it really brings out the Coconut and Bourbon. Spacing could have been better but it is what it is... 2x26ss twisted parallel with 1-28Kanthal w/ 36SS wrap - 3.5MMIMG_1629.JPG IMG_1628.JPG

Well I'm getting closer with my smaller wire. I figured out that cutting the wire into 2 sections and making 1 coil at a time makes the wire way more manageable. I'm going to try my new swivels next and compare the two methods. Vape store ran out of 24g NiChrome, so I'll have to work with what I've got for now. :(
