Most find it easier to clapton backwards and wrap forwards, in relation to your normal wrap. Though there are some that find it easier the opposite. So try both and see what feels better for you

Well from a tiny piece of a start of something to shite. Lol. Started with no swivels at all because it was only like a 4inch core. Hooked to a cheaper swivel real fast in the middle. Lol I'll go again in a bit

I've got my cores on a swivel now. I just used the single piece for my clapton. Cut it into 3 and ran with it to see what would happen. And I'm hopeful for sure. Better first run than most of my ssfc. Lol

For me, that's the best way to do 3 core's, unless you want a bigger decore of course. Cut 1 piece the length of wire you need for a coil , clapton about 1/2 of that, decore and then cut the core into 3. That gives you a little more decore than you need. But better to much than to little.
. The wrap is not tight though. Can't get any worse from here.

Braided like 7-8 inches tonight. 7 loop 36g. Kinda disappointed because it has all those loops and it’s not flat. But it looks cool!

Yeah man I'm stoked. Always thought it would be way too hard to alien. It's actually pretty easy. My stretch wasn't enough so I ended up holding tension on the wrap but was able to hit full speed to finish it out. Woohoo

yeah its not much different from a regular clapton, in terms of what your hands are doing. just seems like its more complex with the math and extra steps, and that seems to psych people out a bit. its easy to think 'ill never be able to do that' after watching a tutorial. as long as your math and prep are good, and your decore isnt over stretched, theres not a lot that can go wrong (unless you have pets/kids/a roomba anywhere near your decore lol).
some would argue that making alien framed staples is a great way to practice for making aliens
imo they are a bit easier because the framed staple stacks are much sturdier than 3 x roundwire cores.that second one is as clean as it gets

Well with my sickness I decided to avoid aliens for my build. And with my frustration I decided to stay off the drill the rest of the day. Been brainstorming and I think this is my plan.

good luck man its very interesting seeing your notes. i often have similar pages on my desk too. a friend of mine said it looked like astrophysics or calculus notes and its given him this impression that coil building is just fucking nuts with math and stuff kinda makes me wanna see other peoples notes now...if any of you keep crazy mad-scientist style build notes, post pics of them with your builds
any tip could help a person out. we all have different eyes/hands/patience/fortitude/faith in the build gods/health/injuries etc...and we all do everything a little differently to overcome different things. i can say 'watch your angle and maintain consistent tension' all day long, it doesnt mean shit to someone who cant see it, or who has some kind of injury/health problem that stops their arm/hand from working like mine does. they need tips from people who had to overcome the same problems. you might only be on your third alien build, but if you can do them at all, you might have figured out how to help someone else already
All it needs now is a Mil Spec Trigger and take Glock Mags

Thank you man. Haven’t had much time lately but it’s almost done. I need to countersink the boltheads on the top. And I’m wrestling with what I want to use cosmetically cover my mishaps on the sides. I was thinking copper sheet but I don’t want to pull the trigger til I’m sure. But here she is today

I need alien math.. I add the width of all the wire then I need to match that width to what ever size the clapton wire would be correct? Like a 4 ply fralien woul be 4x.1 plus the width of the frames. So I'd need like a 24g to clapton. I'll need bigger wire.

When you wake up at 6am thinking of aliens. Is it too early to wake the family? Lol on another note. I have a second drill and compared speed of each. My daily runs at 550rpm. The one I never thought about using runs at 1400rpm. I guess that solves my "this shit takes forever" problem.

You don't HAVE to stick to 3/1, though that is small as you can go. Lots of people do 3/1 and then subtract a gauge or 2 (i.e. 3 core 28g with a 26 gauge decore). The bigger the decore the less you stretch and the bigger the "S".I need alien math.. Well I complained to CrazyWire about a bad spool of .4 I got from them. They sent me a 2 replacement spools. Open them up and ......
The other one is ok at least. I'd say something is wrong with their spooling machine that doesn't like .4 ribbon. Cause it's the only one that is always f'd up.
On the plus side they sent me some freebies as an apology. Just dug them out to look at them.
30g Ni90 - Been wanting to try some of this alloy so cool!
35g SS304 - An interesting gauge to play with. I'm going to use it on my next groovefused project
26g NiTi - After a quick google ... not exactly an alloy I should be vaping as far as I can tell. But I'm interested to see if/how it colors. So kind of cool?
