Reuleaux rx2/3 check battery problem

So my friend gave me his reuleaux rx2/3. I almost have 0 knowledge about vapes other then how to hit it and charge it (lol). Recently its not been turning on. When I plug it into the USB charger, it comes on as normal but when I press the power button I get a "check battery" error.
I know there are lots of fixes for a disconnected wire on the rx2/3, but my problem is that it doesn't even power on without the USB cable plugged in.
Could it be bad batteries? Need help! Thanks in advance

Yes, it could be the batteries. You may need new ones. It's best to charge the batteries in an external charger, not with the USB charger. If you do use the USB charger, use the one it came with.
