Absolutely. Definitely a difference between clones and authentics but stores love clones. They make money on the clones. How do they justify selling an authentic boxer and a clone boxer in the same store? They do though.

Which further proves my point. How do you even compete with that as a modder? LOL
I believe it's all about brand loyalty. Making something unique, getting people to want it by building hype, then selling it at a price that doesn't encourage people to rather spend their money on a clone or on something else. A price that's indicative of the value rather than pricing it for top dollar just because Johnny Q Modder does. Let your customers be involved in your brand. Listen to feedback and smartly make adjustments that are popular or that fall in line with your own vision of the product. Interact with your fan base so as to build rapport. Be active on social media and give updates as to whats going on while interweaving small bits of yourself into your interactions to allow your customer base to feel they know you.

How many people you know that buy one of everything or of every color just because they are brand loyal? Sometimes even when it's not a great product they still buy one every time something new comes out because they like who makes them and they are emotionally connected to the modder or simply just think they are awesome. They like to feel that they are part of the history, own part of, involved in the evolution of said product and will praise it even to the point of defending it from the opinions of others.

It's almost like you have to build a little cult around your mod and the modder is Charles Manson. WHAT?! I meant, the modder is like the cult leader and the mod is the cool-aid. Just need to figure out how to make them want to drink it.

I'll weigh in on the clone vs authentic debate.
As I've said before, I am on an extremely limited vape budget. I've only recently started buying authentics as clones were the only thing I could afford when I started vaping. Only in the past year or so have there been companies offering unique products at affordable prices.

Perfect example: I just bought three authentic Oumier Wasp RDA's for under $40.

There will always be high end products in any market, there will always be knockoff versions of them, and there will always be lower end products that hold their own against the higher end ones without the superior fit and finish. It's just a matter of what you decide is important to you considering budget, morality, and availability.

I will say, however, that I don't think that clones really affect the modders' bottom line very much. The Armor RDA is in high demand and supply is low. Same with the Soul S and the various iterations of the Haku. The modders sell every single one they make to the point where USED ones cost more than buying new.

The Half randomizers just now ended on bookbook, check out this beauty. Gorgeous. Hulk Half! Someone is stoked!
I've totally shot my wad for like the next year or I would've jumped at this one. Love it.
@Train were you in on these today?

No debate here, I'm a firm believer in spending your money on what you see fit.

Hear Hear.
Back to the 'different strokes for...' thinking.
My friend who I mentioned takes great pride in his vast collection of clones. And that's awesome.
Crazy for me, but he's super happy and that's what matters.
We have fun cause he'll say "AND I have the sxk version AND the Shenray version AND the...." and I just kinda roll my eyes.
; ))

I have to say I have an issue with buying clones. It's just not fair to the guys who originally release the authentics. There are plenty of cheaper squonks out there. You have coppervapes, picos, wraith. Now you have the predator 80w and the gorilla. And there are lots of cheaper attys that work quite well i love my flava from alliance and it's way cheaper than a hadaly.

But I won't judge because you use a clone. Do what you feel is right. Chacun a son gout as we say up north.

I did indeed throw my name in the randomizer lists for a Half.
No luck.
They are rolling out the same design, 3-D printed, which I'm not interested in.
I mean, it's got unique internals, and that's probably an excellent and interesting mod, too - but a fair bit of what I like about them are the stabwood and delrin materials, so I'll just keep checking in to try and buy one.

It's at least a fair process - you don't have to be in a secret club (other than joining the Facebook group) and you don't have to be the fastest, or know people - just just have to show up on a Sunday and participate.
They open a list for one device for a minute, about 150 sign up before time runs out, then they random-pick a name.

You're absolutely right that the original modders should at least be given some kind of compensation for their design. Maybe that's why Jaybo hooked up with Wismec... he seemed to avoid the whole cloning thing by making less expensive authentics and still getting paid for his designs. Appears as though it didn't work out for him in the end, but that's beside the point.

Yup. Agree on the Half. Not digging the 3D one really either. And, yes, the process is fair.
The Runt group too.
I did enter that one again this week. I've already bought a custom door & button so I gotta 'win' one of these times!
111 people entered for 10 mods.
Waiting on the results right now.
It's like reverse gambling, when you win, you gotta pay!

Edit: results posted, not lucky this week!
Roll on next Sunday.
: )

I have a VA coming - might be my only 3D, it just doesn't dazzle me over say Delrin...but we'll see when I get it I might change my mind!

I do like the 6ixty-7even.

And speaking of designs - he did it again - the modder just now, for about 3 hours, opened up his designs on Shapeways, and let you order your own stuff. Just for kicks, I think.
Mostly, it resulted in confusion - people were asking "but wait, will you build it? Where do I get the 510?" and such.
I don't want to build my own mod - but I ordered another door and buttons in contrast colors...
This is the same modder who made an old version permanently accessible for people to print their own.

I'm seeing you guys post pics of these great looking mods and I'm envious. I prefer the regulated squonk mods and there are few of them. I have several mech squonk mods, but use them seldom.

I was NOT a fan of 3d printed stuff either. Until i got this Arkon. The Alumide is where its at. I like it waaaay better than nylon prints. It has carbon and aluminum powder in it so its alot heavier than nylon. Which makes it feel alot more quality imho. Thats what i hated with nylon, they felt like toys. I now am a fan of 3d printed sqounk mechs. I have another one the way, a Minimal Mods. Actually i have two on the way. I also got in on a preorder for the Steam Rabbit which is purely a carbon print. Will see how i like that.

I thought i was slowing down on vape gear. I had sold off alot of old stuff, and was actually happy with downsizing. But now i fell down the sqounk rabbit hole and am buying left and right. Not only is there so many 3d printed, delrin, stabwood, and any other material you can think of sqounks. Then there is the doors, button, beuty rings, and high end attys. I feel into another rabbit hole and this one seems to be the deepest of them all.

You just got that one! You're not getting along with it?

Also I have MOD issues, I LOATH seeing them sit unused and I'm not one to use various ones throughout the day.

Basically regulated when out and about and mechs at home.

You would absolutely flip your lid at my house then :giggle:

lol probably, I can't stand it. I've always been that way with everything except fishing gear, easily have 30 rods/reels in the basement and typically only bring 3-5 out with me when I go.

One of these days I'll get around to it, I figured I should have at least one and I've yet to see any that really catch my interest. At least I know the Floris enclosures.
Maybe that fancy chip the bear is always going on about...
I don't know shit about them though, so I'd need to do lots of research into features and stuff to actually build something I want to use.

I'll be sure to give you dibs after I build it, hate it and get over it within a few days LOL
I'm sure as hell not about to sink any sort of funding into regulated enclosures when a SVA clone out of china is coming with a DNA chip for less than I can get an empty enclosure landed on my doorstep :giggle::giggle:

In all honesty, I bought the Li'l Pinch but never used it. I love the mod, it is dyed maple, but I don't have the time to do it justice and do the proper maintenance.
@JuicyLucy would definitely be qualified to compare the REO and the Li'l Pinch.

The FSK chip in the G2 (2 battery) or Slice (26650 or 18650 single) is the only one that does TC on kanthal. To me, it's like a DNA chip, only better.....shhhh, don't let the DNA fan boys hear me blaspheme!

I've been needing that thing for my collection of odd vaping equipment, and I finally scored one for cheap the other day - only 29 euros! It arrived in the mail today:

35958259692_1951e47efa_b.jpg

It's utterly ridiculous. BUT... unlike many strange mods and atomizers in my collection, it works very well indeed. I threw a Ni200 build on it, filled up the bottle and away it vaped. Super-easy deck, perfect TC, no dry hits, no leaks, cloud-chucking atomizer yet with surprisingly good flavor, efficient and comfortable feeding system, and I like the massive 16ml bottle.

So, I'm quite happy with it. But there's no way I'm going out with that thing as long as I have a shred of self-respect. It'll make a perfect table mod to keep at home, and surely a good conversation piece for vape meets :)

Tell you what: I have a whole lot of mods from a lot of manufacturers, and only a few can't do TC properly with Ni200.

People keep telling me that this or that brand can't do TC well, and I'm happy to believe it with SS or titanium wire, because the lower TCR requires better electronics for TC to work well. But with Ni200, the TCR is high enough that any old mod can do TC well.

Since I only vape Ni200... yes, my Kangers do perfect TC for me. Sorry but that's the truth :)
