And now I have a slight whistle after moving the coil down...

Goodnight to the late night bonkers and good morning to the early risers!

... Young squonkers these days act like its a hassle to squeeze the bottle:giggle:

Ha ha! I guess I'm a subversive then. It's all good.

I say the following after squonking only about 6 months now in rotation with other devices...

My issue comes from being used to dripping, and having a filled juice well

vs

Squonking and only the wicks are wet and like no juice in the well

With dripping there are more hits available before the wick is dry, and with squonking the hits are limited by the capacity of your wicking

At least there are parts available so we can each have the personal vape experience that we individually desire. :)

While I admit the Wasp hands down beats the Goon for flavor, I personally enjoy the draw on the Goon 22 over the Wasp big time

Never could bring myself to try the DR
My opinion is that the Goon 22 beats the Dead Rabbit.

Edit: The Goon 22's I have are are clones. And the Dead Rabbit is authentic, thanks to the generosity of someone.

I was thinking of upgrading the 510 in my s rabbit clone to a spring loaded mod maker 510. Anyone here have experience with that? What all would i need to purchase to make this work? Do i just need this 510 http://www.modmaker.co.uk/Mod-Making-Supplies/510-Connectors/MM510-Squonker-Connector

Or would i also need a flat washer or catch cup? Was also going to order some silver plated contacts for it.

I never got a dead rabbit. Looked Goon-ish in size and airflow, but with big-ass posts and kind of intended for big coils, up high.
I like simple coils, down low...
This I can do - with duals, in a Goon 22. And so I have two of them, and they're in use - they've survived as "in rotation" when MANY other RDA's have been replaced by recent preference for either more air, or simpler setup singles, etc.

Funny, too - RIGHT after reading about it above, I noticed - there's a Goon 22 with squonk pin on eBay for $35.
I'd grab it, but I'm really kind of tapped out.

Unless anyone's got a Haku or a Flave22 Ti, I'm not gonna grab any more RDA's for a little while.
(I don't stop buying stuff when I've over-spent...I just get pickier, lol)

I've never switched that particular mod but have done others successfully

The two big issues are the position of the firing button and whether or not there is a countersink

If the top of the mod has a counter sink to make the 510 flush with the body, it needs to accommodate 16mm diameter (It is .5mm thick)

Then there is making sure the firing button is positioned to hit the the bottom nut

EDIT: I personally dislike catch cups - but to each his own - especially when customizing ;)

Think I'll order it and see what i can make happen. Parts are cheap enough that it won't kill my wallet if it doesn't work out. And I'm a pretty creative person.

You can get even more hits from a subohm tank as well or an rta. Question is witch "hits" do you enjoy the most? I know for me dripping or squonking the best hits are the first couple after dripping or squonking. That's why squonking is so great because I like to squonk every 1-2 hits and it's so much easier to squonk really quick vs opening a bottle, aiming down the shoot drip, drip, drip....

G’mornin crazy strangerz!

Been awhile mates...
Out of town on vacation and been trying to catch up on here the past hour.. ooof.
Wow things have changed in this thread.
I think it should be a new rule that before joining the conversation, you must first read the entire Bonkers thread since it’s inception for a proper feel of the ‘neighborhood’ and your neighbors...and perhaps cure the ails of the same things being discussed over & over
;)

In new-new news, check out the latest Limited Edition soon to be released killer from David / l’Octopus Mods.. the ‘Octo Skate’ wood squonk..complete with griptape door. Wicked as hell.
Proof positive that not ALL modders in Belgium are creeps!

I hate dripping - and to me the point of squonking is to do get a fresh drip - and get the absolute best vape with each hit

1) Who bought that goon22? lol
2) that octopus looks COOL
3) Goon LP - never got suckered in for one of those, I could tell by looking at it that it wasn't an "improved Goon"...

Everyone's selling Haku caps. But there's no Haku's - heck they're on to a new model now, right?
I had to get one though - it's gonna end up like the Hadaly...I ended up trading away all but one Hadaly, but I literally have 5 or 6 caps for it.

Not me - I already have 5 black Goon 22 and one 22 in brass, plus the OGs

2) that octopus looks COOL

Does it ever!

3) Goon LP - never got suckered in for one of those, I could tell by looking at it that it wasn't an "improved Goon"...

It came out on my birthday last year and when Mr Juicy unexpectedly said "I didn't buy you anything yet, what do you want?" I ended up with two, lol

I kept one, and I eventually did dial it in but it is not in rotation - in January of 2017 we were still in extreme awe if something came out with a BF pin, most shit still had to be modded with your own BF pin back then

Just for anyone interested, I checked Vdrop on the golisi s35 21700 and vtc5a in a few mods and got the following results. Yes, I realize I should measure at the contacts, then the rsa post and subtract. Problem is, my wife is asleep and I don't have a third hand to fire the mod while holding the prongs. We'll have to settle for voltage at the post. Same vtc5a and rsa (krma) used on all.

First the vtc5a, krma, .39 ohm coil:

Garage mod mech, silver contacts, regular mm510. .34 Vdrop

Pico Squeeze. .36 Vdrop

Hugo Squeezer. .35 Vdrop

Hugo with 21700 Golisi. .29 Vdrop

To me the big surprise is the Pico and the Golisi. The Pico is hanging strong with the Garage mod which is pure mech with solid silver contacts. Same exact battery and rda.

The Golisi is amazing. Less drop under load than a vtc5a but has an additional 1100mah. Perhaps that extra 3mm diameter is giving those electrons more room to dance freely. Less internal resistance than a vtc5a or even the Sanyo 20700a. Nuff said.

cheers
Excellent , glad to know now if only my 21700 mod would ship ,

You at least have options of buying larger or smaller nuts on mod maker bf 510 , and the 510 plates for making it 22 or larger , can even get the contacts swapped out for silver too , i just done one of mine in all mod maker silver contacts ,
Defo made a good different on it
Was a little inconsistent until i swapped it out ,

I did this exact conversion and it requires a little bit of filing the hole to fit the modmaker 510 and then ALOT of filing to the negative contact lol

If I were to do it again I would buy pre cut negative contact from modmaker.

Also worth noting that it did not seem to improve the conductivity at all and apart from the convenience of being spring loaded was a complete waste of money!

TBH these days $30 will get you a very decent mech with spring 510 and silver plated contacts and hardly any voltage drop. So for me the days of spending $ on modmaker parts trying to fix up a janky clone I bought from Fastech are over :)

Yes, for sure. However due to the chamber size, chimney shape and length and distance from the actual coil to your mouth, tanks and RTAs typically have a much narrower sweet spot for the perfect combo of flavor and vapor for your use of a pre-made coil head or the coils you build yourself or which ones you might buy pre-wrapped (like from AVS, etc).

Hence, likely why so many of use prefer RDA/RSAs.

I started building my own coils in the RBA head of the Toptank mini about 18 months ago (after realizing that for 6 months I felt like I was throwing money away on the Kanger SSOCC coil heads, which I was lucky to get 20ml of juice thru them before they were too gunked up or burnt), and had great success with that RBA head in the Kanger, and then moved on to the Velocity, and a few months later the Goon v1.

The Goon was a game-changer for me when I got it about a yr ago, and I used that pretty much exclusively as my main dripper and when my P4U IPV8 suffered from a spinning 510 connection, had to run out to my local B&M and get the cheapest thing they had at the time to keep of the smokes, while I researched other options, and that was a Pico 75w kit with the Melo 3 mini tank. A week later I went back and go the RTA version of the SuperTank Mini (Goon will not fit since the Pico 75w has a limit of 22mm atomizers), and used that for a while until I got my hands on a Dovpo M/VV which let me use the Goon again...and I was very happy with that....

Then I grabbed a Pulse 22 at the start of Oct 2017, tand then a few weeks pater, the Pulse BF from my local B&M (Nuclear Vapes, Denville, NJ), and was immediately loving the 'squonk life'...(this was back in Nov 2017)...

In Dec 2017 I grabbed the Druga 22 squonk kit as well.

On this past Friday received the Hcigar Vt Inbox v3 and a Wasp Nano, and for squonking I'm pretty much set for mods.

3-2-1 Rule taken from my IT work, in this scenario the Inbox is the daily driver, the Pulse BF is the backup to that, and the Augvape Druga squonker is the backup to the Pulse...so I have 3 levels of backup just in case something fails, I wont have to rush out and make an impulse purchase like when the IPV8 died.

For a wonderful RTA, I have th Geekvape Zeus on my Dovpo M/VV and that combo works really well for me, and my only gripe is the height of it all at about 120mm tall, I am always afraid of it toppling over, falling off the desk and smashing on the floor, but fingers-crossed, as that has not happened yet. I have an SXK BB DNA60 as the backup to the Zeus combo, and that original TopTank mini on the Pico 75w is the backup to the SXK BB...

So that's some of how I ended up as a squonk-lover now. :)

I'm also an IT guy, and I have a Pulse BF as my main and a Pico Squeeze as my backup but have been struggling not to buy an Asmodus Luna as my main exactly because of the 3-2-1 Rule the past few days :)

I posted earlier over in the coil thread about really narrow coils and hard wicking based on my own tests on the back of the work Morten Oen has done (that dude deserves way more exposure and credit than almost anyone). I have confirmed a lot of his tests and it has been a major change for me. Basically he figured out that the more narrow the coil and the harder wicked it is, the more juice is in the wick, near the coil, and being vaporized with effectively half of the battery usage. He is 100% correct. I get double the battery life out of my single 18650 squonkers and in many cases, more vapor and better flavor. It is a major boon on attys like the Pulse 22/24 and Wasp Nano. At first I went to 2.5mm ID, but now I am at 2.0mm and get exactly double the battery life in my mechs/unregulated mods. It goes against the current trends and even generally accepted approaches, but I swear that dude cracked the code with science and I've confirmed all of it.

I don't know what rules apply for myself. My daughter is home from college visiting. About 30 min ago she made me dig out most of my mods so she could post a pic to her friends on IG. I don't think 3-2-1 applies here :giggle:

Only non-squonk is the old SXmini that I use for building, slow burning and checking builds. To be fair though, I've been vaping for almost 6 years, squonking for almost 5. Mods just accumulate...

or perhaps I have issues.

But the collection of @JuicyLucy makes me look like the pinnacle of self control. ;)

Yes Morten Oen!!!

I linked his YT channel here a few days ago. Morten Oen and Mooch are my vaping-science heroes!

My smallest dia .coils that I build are 2.5mm, but usually 3mm for the most part. Smaller and I have real trouble wicking on anything thinner than 24g wire, because when spaced, it deforms too easily when you wick it tight.

By tight, I mean that I have to literally 'thread' the cotton into the coil wraps by twisting it, and it makes a squeaking sound when I do this...

However, as per Morten Oen, I NEVER get a dry hit, and more puffs per drip or squeeze on account of the increased juice capacity, but I will have to look at his videos again on coil dia., and then maybe try one of these builds and see how the battery life is effected.

If it is as efficient as you say from your experience, then I am happy to do this, as lots of my building is geared towards extending battery life, so every little bit helps.

Also - spaced coils for me vs contact coils, since with contact coils the wick is always prematurely severed in the middle since this is the contact of the hottest part of the coil, but with spaced coils, your wire has more surface area in contact with the wick, and the heat is spread out more evenly, and as I rotated attys with SS wire, the spaced coils also perform better in TC mode on a regulated mod, for me, than contact coils in TC mode.

If it helps with the decision making, "Easter Sale! 10% Off Entire Order Valid 3/30-4/6 2018

The hand picked one I wanted sold and I don't want to settle, so I'm just biding my time until another catches my eye.

Life's too short... I went back to the site and the one that I wanted now said in stock! No idea if it was an error or if the sale fell through, but I took it as a sign and bought it. We'll see if it goes through and ships. They really are beautiful pieces.

... She just gets a slightly worried look when she sees more than five mods at one time.

This is why back in October 2017, I decided that all new mods purchased will be black, and all atomizers will be either black or silver/SS. Most people around me either can't tell the difference or are not paying close enough attention to see, and I never have more than 3 devices out at one time on my desk...(which also keeps the others dust-free)

'Security by obscurity' ha ha!

Naah! I keep reminding her she was the one that suggested buying both Luna mods when I couldn't decide. She just gets a slightly worried look when she sees more than five mods at one time.
The Wife and I keep primarily separate finances. She said (much to her chagrin, I am sure) that as long as the bills are paid, She doesn't care. Now, She says "I haven't seen that one before..." And kind of shakes her head...

I've even been so bold as to share the meme "my greatest fear is that, when I die, The Wife will sell my mods for what I said I paid for them." Ha ha! I solved that problem by writing my collection into my will.

I think it should be a new rule that before joining the conversation, you must first read the entire Bonkers thread since it’s inception for a proper feel of the ‘neighborhood’ and your neighbors

One trying to oblige this suggestion is going to have difficulty being able to read all 684 pages, with ~10 posts per page in a reasonable amount of time.

Doing the math, this is 6.840 posts and not a small task. (on another forum I've visited nearly every day for 5 yrs, I have made ~6,000 posts in total myself, so maybe it will take that long to read all of this thread, at once non-stop)

Should all newbies here (myself included) refrain from commenting until this task is completed?

Maybe some expectations should be considered if they can align with reality, and maybe need to be reset?

I am not able to satisfy this request as of now. I have a life too. :)

If there is a specific focus to the conversation other than talking about 'all things squonking' that I missed as per reading maybe the first 150 posts to this thread, and anyone is up for the task of creating a summary or 'guidelines' for the culture that should be maintained here, I would welcome such a thing.

Otherwise, one should know that as new users come to this forum (or this thread) and add their uniqueness to the group, the situation is going to evolve, otherwise it is going to stagnate and die. This is how things survive, or not.

Some folks resist change no matter what, but the only constant in life is change.

To stay alive, we must grow, until it comes time to leave, for the next 'thing', whatever that is....

Should newbies or outsiders leave?

your math is off a little. I believe it is 40 or 50 posts per page by default. Your post I am quoting is #34,178....

Thank you. hard to see sarcasm and poking-fun in text without /s or LOL or j/k or some other modifiier.

It's all good then. No worries. Should I remove my post?

Yea I put a modmaker in a custom wood mod I have. Was a bit of work fixing the negative plate to fit the modmaker through. Not really sure if it made a difference or not. But at least if I decide to sell it's got better pieces
