I don't know....I've dealt with alot of men who have watched alot of videos about home repairs or read books like fine woodworking ..and honestly most of them would be a danger to themselves with a screwdriver.they couldn't build a treehouse.
He could have done a bunch more damage if he hadn't waited 37 seconds before firing again.
I think his idea was sound but lacked good execution. At least, as far as the speed he changed weapons/reloaded.
There isn't much skill involved in "spray and pray" shooting style.
Anyway, it rules out two shooters for me.

People wondering where the gunman may have gotten fully auto assault rifles, ar-15's have a shit ton of conversion kits and solutions available. Either drop in mechanisms or items like slide fire's bump fire stock that doesn't require altering the internals at all. For a couple hundred bucks a 3 round burst becomes nearly full auto and allows to bump fire while aiming vs from the hip with traditional bump fire methods. It's not like it's really complicated and it's why ar-15's are so popular. It's a solid platform with lots of goodies.
Pausing between two rifles makes perfect sense to prevent jams from a barrel overheating and contracting moreso than trying to fool people into thinking it was two separate shooters. That's why larger full auto's like m240's and .50 cal have additional barrels on hand, you fire x amount of rounds through then yank the barrel and throw a cold one on. Although more pertinent to things like .50 cals given the barrel design extruding the rounds as they exit.
Not sure exactly what the explosives were, the sheriff mentioned something about them being exploding targets so not sure if they were generic/demo explosives mixed in or simply exploding targets to make long range shots easier to spot hit vs miss. Not sure where his house was, but if he lived out in the middle of nowhere he wouldn't need to go to a gun range to practice. Either use his backyard or find a desolate spot in the wide open desert to fire into banks and hillsides. A recent report also says the asian woman who's out of the country may be his girlfriend which would explain why he had her debit card and other things.
