Damn it. I can't stand bull@#*+! Poor Liz received a Medicare notification in the mail before Thanksgiving. I warned her, "Babe. You don't want to sign up for that Medicare plan. First off, there's a MONSTER deductable; and, just because it reads 'backed by AARP' doesn't necessarily make it a good deal."

She became indignant; and said, "I don't tell you how to make decisions. This plan bought out my old one; so, leave it be."

So, she found out today that I was correct. A prescription that she had paid $4.29 for became $8.55. Newer prescriptions weren't even covered under Medicare; though she got a break from Medicaid, she was still being (insert expletive here). So, she had to call her doctors to get prescribed 'equivalent' meds to do the job... and...

She still paid more. I told her to call Medicare. She did, and the guy told her that since she'd been misled, he got her onto the most prescription and medically-friendly plan out there, with no deductable. She didn't have to take that royal screwing until October/November of this year, like many who fail to change their plans in a timely fashion.

Damned right.

When she hung up, she had this exasperated look upon her face.

"How do you know so much?" she blared. "It seems like you're always 'right,' which makes me feel stupid. I used to be able to handle my own life; or, so I thought. Why do you want to be in a relationship with someone like me?"

I sat there, without feelings of judgement; or, the proverbial 'I told you so' mentality.

"Liz," I said. "I love you. Period. I learned about 'stuff' along the way, and by making mistakes. That's what we humans do. When it came to your Medicare, I knew that you need to read the small print - since private corporations manage these healthcare plans :wait:... and, I learned about that by being a caregiver to both my Nonno (grandfather), and Pa - my Dad - until they passed."

She ruminated. "Hmm. So what's the short answer?"

I laughed, and said, "My cousin Mike used to get frustrated with me like that, when it came to music theory and sound engineering. So, my short answer is this:

I'm like an escort with a college degree. A f****** know-it-all."

She said, "You're lucky I love you."

That is sooooo true. :inlove:
