Good morning Debs!!!!!!!
I will gladly send along the recipe. A trick for turning them into bars is once the mixture is all done put it in a lined 9x12 baking pan(one of the deep ones), place another liner over the top and then use another 9x12 pan to press the mixture until its flat and tight, then refrigerate until its solid enough to hold its shape when you cut them into bars.
Mornin sweets! didn't think anyone was up at this time, so caught up on another thread. Do you bake yours? if so, so you do this before or after baking?
Thanks, one way or another the tooth will get solved. My insurance won't do any dental at all unless a doc says it's a medical necessity. last time, the tooth had abscessed and was definitely a medical issue at that point. It was broken as is this one, so they had to put me under and dig it out. Really want this one gone, it's been a problem for a long time.

All good. The monkey had me awake at 5 this morning lol.

I don't bake them at all, but I do boil the brown sugar, honey and butter for one minute then mix it in while still hot. This makes them easy to press and mould as desired.

I promise I will send along the recipe, I just need to have 10 minutes of quiet so i can type it out. To be completely honest the recipe I use is more of an energy bar but the method can be applied for most granola bar recipes

Sounds great and easy! An energy bar is wonderful. My dil buys a lot of those. Way expensive, and always have tons of crap in em. No hurry on the recipe, whenever you have time

There inst really anything out of the ordinary in the recipe. Mostly why I like it, its all pretty standard kitchen items. Id say the 2 least ordinary things in it would be Vector cereal(which can be substituted for pretty much any similar cereal you like) and dried Cranberries(which again can be substituted for any dried fruit you have on hand). I actually substitute lots of things in this recipe so it changes a bit every time. Always delicious though! :D

But for now, Im off to the swimming pool with my girl. She's excited because we're meeting up with some friends that we havent seen in a while!

Hope you have a great day!

Well, if 2 people want the recipe then I see no reason in not posting it here....

4 Cups Vector cereal
4 Cups Oats
2 Cups dried cranberries
2 Cups Raisins
2 Cups Crushed pretzels
1/2 Cup Chocolate chips

Mix together above ingredients

1/2 Cup butter
1.5 Cups Honey
1.5 Cups Brown sugar

Bring browns sugar, honey and butter slowly to a boil and let simmer for 1 minute.

Mix hot liquid into dry ingredients so that all is covered
Press tightly into lined baking pans and refrigerate for 2 hours
Cut into bars and wrap individually(sandwich bags are also fine)
Keep frozen or refrigerated.

The chocolate chips will melt when the liquid is added. If you prefer to keep them whole then hold them aside until after adding the liquid and mix them in after it starts to cool down a bit.

Enjoy! Let me know how they turn out!

Thanks hun. sounds yummy. We can't get vector here, so in looking up healthy cereals, I'll probably go with something like kashi go lean. 52% of fiber for a day and a lot of protein. Do you just use regular oats, not instant? Probably doesn't matter much. I've got regular in the cupboard.

Its kind of like bran flakes with granola in it. Its actually quite delicious, and until this morning I had no idea that its a Canadian cereal..I learned something today :)

Who knew? I just looked it up and all roads point to Kellogs.ca :teehee:

There's a "crunchy raisin bran" with granola clusters here that would probably substitute well - unless you don't want the raisins that come with. Can't recall the brand name for it right now, but it made it into a "store brand" here in the Market Basket chain as well so it must be selling good.

Hay!

Kellogg’s* Vector* products have been specifically formulated to meet the nutritional needs of active, health-conscious Canadian adults.

I'll have to try this with some protein powder added :)

Another way to add protein to it is to substitute 2 cups of unsalted peanuts instead of 2 of the 4 cups of cereal or instead of the pretzels all together.

This of course only works if you aren't allergic to peanuts;)

Protein powder will work but it might have an impact on the ratio of liquid to dry ingredients and it might not hold the bars together as well.

Hope you like them!
Thanks hun. I saw you suggested nuts, had thought about adding some.

BTW: Khassy started this thread a couple months ago: http://vapingunderground.com/threads/good-eats.306165/
Thanks hun

lol When I was looking it up, it may be healthier than a lot of cereals, but apparently not really all that healthy. Many were complaining about the running folks sponsoring it or really pushing it or something, cuz there were a lot more healthy things you could eat. But this one supposedly tastes really good :D

I'm not allergic to them, but I have never really liked nuts (I am aware of all the possible jokes here)

I may be able to find a cereal I like that is high in protein
dunno if you'd like it, but it would likely be fine in this. I've never tried it and my son says it is expensive, but Kashi go lean has 52% of a days fiber, and I think 17% of a days protein in it. Only using it for this would make it more cost effective.

A healthy gluten-free option, this cereal is a fruit lover’s dream come true, thanks to a whole lot of berries. It also provides a huge protein punch, with 11 grams per serving, and healthy fats in the form of sunflower seeds.

maybe this will do, if I can find it
that one looks yummy

As I recall Kellogs.ca goes as far as to call Vector cereal a "meal replacement."

Morning Wompers! :coffee2:

Hows the back treating you Deb? Did the treatment work?
I'm not sure. It still hurts a lot, but we've had a lot of rain since I had it done, and I always have really bad pain with the rain. So if that's arthritis pain rather than nerve, then I'll have to wait til the rain goes away to see if it's helped. We've got rain all around us all this week :( Thanks for asking though. How are you and the munchkin doin?

Late? She posted that in the middle of the afternoon.:)
woopsy, got my am and pm mixed up. But....that's nuttin new! :teehee:

Oh Im sorry to hear that! I hope your back feels better soon! We are having a great week so far. She made some huge progress in the swimming pool yesterday and today we're having a bit of a treat and watching Alice in Wonderland. Im still working on the spring cleaning but that will be much easier in 2 weeks when the school lets out and Im laid off. I usually have about 2 weeks before my summer job starts up, sometimes longer but Im not usually off for too long.

Thanks. That's great on the pool progress. Good you don't have long off in between, but a bit of a break! My son just registered for his summer 1 courses.

Ohhh thats great! What courses is he taking?
oh I knew you'd ask that. Sociology and 3 others. lol Am History I think, something else that are BSN req's along with the sociology. After he gets his 2 yr RN, he wants to get on at the VA. They'll pay for him to get his BSN. Most places will if he doesn't get on there. But the GI Bill won't pay for 4 yrs at our local University

Debadoo

oh speech is another one. I think that's the other one needed for a BSN. That one will be time consuming, But other than that they shouldn't give him much trouble, since he's taking double what you normally would for a summer session. Unless they've changed and these cover both summer sessions Been a long time since I was in school

Very cool! We have similar programs for career development here. They will cover most trade schools and the LPN courses(liscensed practical nursing I think) but the 4 yr RN course would not be covered. They have a few science programs that Id like to take but ultimately I want a BSc in Physics with a double minor in Chemistry and Mathematics. Unfortunately no jobs around here for a physicist so Im probably going to go the major in Chem and minor in physics and math instead.

Kewl. We are completely opposite brain types!! Of course I suspected that when you said you were spring cleaning :teehee: j/k Chemistry is interesting, but I am allergic to math! So all 3 go down the drain for me. I didn't have to take "chemistry in Respiratory, but we did chemistry of course, and we did have to take a physics class that was geared toward Respiratory. Took every brain cell I could beg borrow or steal and I barely made it through that one by the skin of my teeth. How I got a C I'll never know, but I wouldn't rule out divine intervention! :teehee:

Ok.............where is everyone lately?????
