BTW, I try to avoid religion and politics like the pest.
Nobody convinces anybody anyway.
I'm nasty enough without them.

Will get more info from your post and maybe will come back to it.
If I don't, rest assured that, at least, I've leaned something new from it.
Thank you.

Carlos.
Again this thread isn't just about religion and politics..It's a thread where subjects with substance or thought provoking subjects can be talked about...Not just "It's snowing/raining/sunny here" or "My cat just had kittens" if you don't want to get involved with religion or politics that's ok :)

Why do you include yourself in the 95%?.
Cause see I was forced to grow up going to Sunday school every week then from the age of 9 - 15 I went to scary Nazarene churches my mom forced me to go 3 times a week then see I went Nutz and did enough hallucinogens in the 80" s that I almost did not come back and played Black Sabbath as a young teen to rebel but then I went to college and met my future wife and her Mom was a ex Nun so see if you divide up my life I have been in church more than I haven't but see it gets worse so I choose a private college to finish my degree at and it was Catholic and I choose to take all the theology courses and get my second degree in philosophy. So I'm guessing that since I made those choices I'm part of the 95% trash as I was not forced to mary the daughter of an Ex Nun not was I forced to take all the theology courses not was I forced to go to a private college Nor was forced to work under the Brothers at the Catholic private college so I'm the 95% or not?

I was not forced to believe in a God I was forced to go to Church. I see no relation between the two. Or?

BTW, Marx was misunderstood by the aforementioned %.

He was not talking about the drug. But about the calming effect.

I'll probably be back, if I see something of my interest.
I got a foot here and a foot in the shit list. As usual.
So, let's see.

In any event, so far, it has been a pleasure to have a friendly exchange of ideas.

Thanks again. Carlos.

One time in the 80"s I took these funny little microdots Orange force haha and I will tell you besides for a 1000 ft Eddie Van Halen head chasing me I talked to many forces can't remember if they had names I don't think so but I also believe in forces the Tide can be one nasty force I I remember being dragged in the Gulf of Mexico by a force.

It's not a matter of what I say. It's what I've been feeling before all that shit existed.
I'm 65 years young.
Spielberg wasn't even hanging from his father's ball when
I was divorced twice and had 3 children already.

I thought we were having an intelligent conversation. My bad.

Carlos..
Ok well can you define this force you feel?

Nope. I'm out of my league. It's not a Force It's two Forces.
Will keep watching the Grammys.
Thank you for your kinds replies.

"Forced" going to church =Forced/brainwashed to believe in one or it's a seed thats pushed on you IMO..I mean isn't that what church is about when your a very imperishable kid who just want to do right for your parents

See I do not agree when I was that young I had did not really have the understanding of what a God,deity, force was so it was more like being forced to
go to a building no different then you being made to go to school everyday when a child.

Um, there's the strong nuclear force, the weak nuclear force, the electromagnetic force and gravity. Well, those are the one's science has properly tested and vetted, anyway. What other forces could there be? :)
Gravity's not part of the Standard Model.. They dont know what it is yet..

If ever then of course when they start messing around they run into a particle the (God) particle and they spend billions of dollars to find this particle. But according to history these forces ( God) even manifest or if we are to believe the movies are entities ( Forces) that even posses us.
So many forces so little time haha

I'm off to bed but real quick I'm going to talk about my 8 year old and what happened at school and how I had words with her teacher about creationism and evolution......I have given my girl both sides of the story and I'm going to let her make up her own mind up...When I was explaining evolution to her I showed her this Picture posted below and told her some people including me believe we had evolved from apes...One day she comes home upset and after I asked her what's going on she told me That she had brought up that we could have come from apes and that the whole class laughed at her and the teacher told her "You can't believe everything you see on the Internet" (She didn't know I told/showed her )...I told the teacher at the next "parent and teacher conference" That I have told her BOTH sides of the story and that I'm not pushing anything on her and that she is going to make her own decisions what she wants to believe in and if she ever pushes her own believes or agendas on my kid again she will fucking regret it..Point is... this is what gets my goat...shit being pushed on others...I'm the fucking atheist but I'm still giving my kid both sides of the story.. where obviously this teacher is religious ( The gold cross necklace helped me come to that conclusion ) and telling my kid one thing isn't true and undermining me... I don't care what anyone says...In my book That's fucked up!!!

I really hope they aren't teaching creationism in public schools

Something that always irritates me about MOST Christians is that ideally, we are to be obedient to the Gospels...yet in the Book of Mark, it clearly states the we are to NOT proselytise......yet again...most Christians do JUST THAT. Christ himself said in so many words...that if they are not buying what you are selling...then kindly fuck off.
I have problems with people who refuse to behave like Christ in that he said to turn the other cheek and love thy neighbor and all they ever preach is hatred

Gravity's not part of the Standard Model. But they do know what it is. It's a function of the curvature of space created by momentum (mass and velocity). That would be the General theory of Relativity. You might be confusing it with the graviton, which is still just a hypothesis.

And the "god particle" would more properly be known as the Higgs Boson, the temporary particle created by the Higgs Field that creates mass.

Thats how it works in Einsteins theory, but not what it 'is' :)

No, according to Einstein's theory, that's what it is. If there are still unknowns, well that would be true of every theory. And gravitons are still hypothetical, and if true, they would make up a new theory of gravity.

Also from there:

But these effects – where there are basically curves, hills and valleys in space — occur for reasons we can’t fully really explain. Besides being a characteristic of space, gravity is also a force (but it is the weakest of the four forces), and it might be a particle, too. Some scientists have proposed particles called gravitons cause objects to be attracted to one another. But gravitons have never actually been observed. Another idea is that gravitational waves are generated when an object is accelerated by an external force, but these waves have never been directly detected, either.

Our understanding of gravity breaks down at both the very small and the very big: at the level of atoms and molecules, gravity just stops working. And we can’t describe the insides of black holes and the moment of the Big Bang without the math completely falling apart.

The problem is that our understanding of both particle physics and the geometry of gravity is incomplete.

Hi everyone!

;)

What I find curious, is that some who have different faith (or no religious faith, or belief in no deity) find the expression of faith by any who have it to be objectionable. I agree that ID should not be taught in schools as a scientific principle, and that creationism should only be taught in a religious setting as as a faith-based belief. Why attack the belief structure of others?

Even the "big bang" isn't understood, and conflicting theories about the origins of everything are still proffered!

There's a difference between attacking something and not wanting it taught in public schools as scientific

I know cherry. Was I not clear about that in my post?

There are plenty of criticisms in this very thread, that have nothing to do with ID or creationism being taught.....

You're being intentionally vague, so no I have no idea what you're referring to other than the thing you mentioned about public schools

So, what is gravity? The truth is that at the most fundamental level, no one really knows.

http://www.einsteins-theory-of-relativity-4engineers.com/what-is-gravity.html

Question:

What is gravity?

Answer:
We don't really know. We can define what it is as a field of influence, because we know how it operates in the universe.

http://starchild.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/StarChild/questions/question30.html

There's still an effort to reconcile gravity with quantum physics. No one knows everything about gravity. As far as anyone knows, however, gravity is what Einstein said it was and only a bunch of hypotheses might explain more. If you're talking about at a fundamental level, well, even the fundamental forces can only be assumed to be fundamental.
