Hey All,
Bare with me, I'm new to these discussion boards =)
Ok, here's the deal. I'm having a difficult time figuring this out. I've always heard "more surface area, better flavor." well, I've been getting better flavor out of 2,3, &4 wrap spaced kanthal coils than anything else. No matter what I'm using ( rba, rta, tanks with the mini rba, mech. mods, and reg. mods). This clashes with everything I've ever read on coil building.
With the mech mods it's partly because I can't get anything over .3 ohms to perform worth a damn (they always have way to long of ramp up time, or they produce no flavor) I have explored the entire range of my batteries capabilities (efest 35a max purple 3000mah and Imren 40a max green 3500mah - I don't trust either of them over 20a no matter what they say on their specs)
All my mech mods are smpl's and kamry (i don't use the kamry's that much anymore)
If anyone can point me in the right direction on some coil builds that perform well on single battery smpl's, I'd be grateful. (the atty's I use are, the royal hunter, a kennedy comp.,wismec theorem (i hate the notch coils), a velocity, and a modified trident.) if that helps.

Ditto, but it's my experience, too. I know I've read it somewhere as to why, quite recently, actually. Someone here will pop in with helpful info. I make my own, but only because I hate buying coils and like the flavor I get from rayon.

I use kanthal for my regulated box mods. I use nichrome for my mechs ;) Nichrome heats up much faster. I have to be careful tho. I've drained batteries down to 2 volts a few times. 5 to 7 wraps is plenty for great flavor and clouds. Give it a try when you get the time.

Yeah I'll give that a try. I think I have some 28g nichrome 60 laying around. I've kinda steered away from it because of the metallic taste I get with certain e-liquids....i mean the metal taste is always present, but with some juices it's really awful.
Do you ever use kanthal twisted with nickel on your mechs? I have not tried that because I was unsure if it was safe to use on mechs. (I've been building coils for a few years now, but I've only just ventured into materials other than kanthal. I'v only just recently started using tcr mode on my regulated mods)

Thanks for posting!

More surface area is a relative thing.. Also consider timing.. The surface area priority was common theme, when high power was less than 30-40watts and a low builds were .5-1ohm. Your .3ohm coil, even though you don't say what wire you use, has 2-4x maybe more surface area than anything built just 2or3 years ago and almost 60 watts. I'm assuming you are using between 23 awg and 26awg or multi wire builds. Also since we were powering it with ONLY battery voltage, ie a MECH, you had to balance power, and surface area to get a vape. Today we have regulated mods that allow you to control the vape with a button. between TC and VW regulation, you can turn just about any build into either a flavor build or cloud maker with the push of the button and twist of the air-flow ring.

Surface area still applies today, the biggest difference is scale. The reason a clapton gives so much flavor is all that extra wire wrapped around the resistance wire. Extra surface area.

More surface area does give better flavor but the wattage used should also be taken into account.

Big coils with too low wattage for their mass will not give you good flavor.
Using wattage too high will not give you good flavor either, since from certin point and above the heat gets to high and the taste starts to diminish.

The best range for flavor from Claptons (depending on the type size and mass), at least for me is between 60W and 90W

Also you shouldn't be stuck on the same amount of airflow you're used to and more or less airflow can improve flavor, based on the type of coil and wattage used.

Thank you all for the replies. seeing what others are doing gives some great ideas!
nightshard- I'm always playing with different air flow options...but i usually end up back at wide open, or at least close to it. i seem to get better flavor with a dual, 3 or 4 wrap, spaced, 2-4 mm id, 22-28 awg kanthal a1 with the air all the way open. I'm also experimenting on coil position...where it sits in regard to airflow...maybe more or less space between the coils and post...or between the air flow slots and the coils. There seems to be an infinite array of possible coil configurations, but i'm still searching!
Thanks again for your input.

I'm a bit simpler than most, I prefer twisted coils to claptons and fancier builds simply because I'd rather be vaping than wrapping up wires. My mech flavor build is 24k twisted with 28k, dual coils, 5 wraps around a 2mm bit. They seem to like being positioned with the very bottom of the coils in line with the airflow (assuming side airflow).

This comes out to around .2 ohm though, so I don't know if I'd trust your batteries with it.

YMMV.

Hi there. I starting enter the World of Flavor Chaser after realized that the money I spent on e-liquid is a bunch of waste.
Vapor. Vapor more. And more... what a never ending dream... I should bought just pure VG for those thick cloud and O-ring and Jelly fish... Lol
Now I change my mind and starting to learn about how to catch up my flavor, how to taste all the hidden treasure of the liquid which I vaped for years but never realized.

I truly and terrible need your suggestion. Due to my poor English hope you guys will understand me. (^o^)

My setup
Lavabox DNA 200 for TC mode (now I'm currently doing research about Ni200 TC mode)
Wismec RX 200 for Watt mode as VW device
Tesla Invader III as VV device
SMPL mech mod (I'm not really like to use mech but that include it here anyway)

RDA: all clone except Sapor
Goon 528
Twisted Messe V2
Velocity V2
Sapor V1
Petri
Samurai V2
Baal V3
Mutation V4s
Kennedy 22/24
Tsunami 22/24

RTA:
Uwell Crown (auth)
Pico (clone)
Diablo (clone)

Batttery: Sony VTC 4/5

For coil: I can do handmade coil and beside that I have around 11 type of factory coil (tiger, alien, twist, mix twisted, flat twisted, juggernaut, quad,... nicro 80, ni 200, kath, ss316L) but I really doubt about the quality of those coil as the Vape shop in my city that I know for sure they imported all those thing from China's factory (they do taste so so, but still not what I want)
============================

Okay fine, just note it I not showed up anything with my setup. I just want you guys know what I had so can give me a right suggestion from your own experience. Thanks a lot.

I need your sugesstions about coil building, whats is good for now, exp Clapton / Fused Clapton / Alien / Tiger for Flavor chaser (I mentioned "good" not "best" due to the different between us Vaper, right?)

Which kind of coild that maximize the flavor with those type of building that I should use Inner Wire and Outer Wire, whats gauge, how many wrap, how many ohm, how much Wattage, whats preheat punch/power/temp in TC (just around no need to be so much accurate, but please share me your experience and feeling)>

Thanks a lot and wait for your response!
