Finally able to take one of my most favorite mods off the Disabled list. I first made this about 3 years ago it was going to be my take on a Phidias Woodimus but right before I added the inlay I discovered that fonosmaok was still actively making them so I stopped trying to make it an exact copy of his. This is how it ended up.
Used it for about a year even though I had no mosfet protecting the switch. Then the spring on the battery contact. slowly caused the top to separate from constant tension.
So I reglued the original top and then I changed out the battery contacts tried a less powerful spring also changed to a different 510 (recessed) and added a mosfet. Ended up like this.
Went along fine until last month when the top came off again. So this time I made a new top. And got rid of the battery contact spring all together. Replaced the 510 with a FD V4. Moved mosfet and replaced bottle It is still the smallest 18650 squonker I have. and still gives a great vape. Have been trying it with various atties. But after I got a new Derringer V3 in I went with that. I think lower profile atties look best on this one. Here is what it looks like now.
After working on this one throughout the years it reminds me why I went from using Poly and Lacquers as a finish. To Mineral oil and wax. Because it is not only easier for me to repair. But also any of my customers who accidentally drop their mod and put a dent or a scratch on it can just sand out the imperfection and reapply wax and they are back to brand new again. Plus it just feels so darn much better.
As an addendum to my post. I wanted to talk about the new bottle. After I had ordered them and they were on the way from fasttech. I read some comments on here that they were pretty bad and not worth it. So after I received them I tried to see what I could do to salvage them. I have been using it for about 2 weeks and multiple fills So far working great. Here is what I did.
Compared and replaced the tubing that came with it. The tubing I use on my mods is much thicker but still goes thru the hole in the top cap.
You just have to cut it so it comes to a point to wiggle it through. I also slid a o-ring on the tube that will seal the opening of the bottle so no leaks down the bottle threads. and finally cleaned up the bottle top with a file so the o-ring would sit flush.
So if anyone (my previous customers especially) who ordered some of these bottles from fasttech and wants to try out this fix just let me know.
