OMG I am Full~!

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrppppppppppp

Had three squared slices of sausage, onion, mushroom stuffed crust from Little Cesar's. Would have preferred some Shepard's pie. Unfortunately, not the best situation to go about making it here. Would need to borrow mother-in-law's oven.

Figure that wouldn't be too much of an imposition, given I would make probably two pans the size you used there. I'm sure it would be eaten too. Still it's rather a hassle to think of it as sister in law would create conflict/drama.

She cannot cook for shit. I'm sure me going in and tossing together Shepard's pie to feed us all would be taken as "calling her out". Have no need to do that. Still she would get all pissy I'm sure. And well, I say fuck drama. Not worth it for me.

Were I rather a prick I'd say sure why not fuck with sis in law's world? Not that so I don't bother. The two years we were in the apartment there were times I made stuff up for me and wife. Wife seen I can cook, can do it so good I fed her and some of our neighbors there. They all clamored for more too.

And I kept my wife's apartment cleaner than hospitals. She fussed a bit that I only cleaned toilets weekly. They didn't seem to me to warrant daily wipe downs though. We were not dirty and nor was the apartment.

I'm sure y'all had good eats. Good to see it. :)

the guvmnt won't make it mandatory, but employers will...

Some companies are already doing that. Plus I think some airlines too. Pisses me off. I don’t want a jab, but I may want to travel. Grr.

I almost bought a coffee grinder like that. I just wasn’t sure it really works or how. I’ve got my cheap Krups one.

Um, you turn the crank. There's a grinding auger/wheel in the body (box part) of the grinder. The handle is screwed to the shaft going through the auger/wheel.

The wheel/auger pushes coffee beans up against the walls of the grinder body, crushing, grinding up the beans. The ground coffee falls into the catch tray (the bin what pops out).

This type of grinder is manual meaning you manually turn the crank of the shaft to grind coffee/whatever. Yes, it works. They also create one that grinds up beef to make hamburger meat, pork to make sausage. These are manual too, unless they're powered.

Do they have stationary bikes you can hook up to generate electricity? :giggle:

Here you go. :) When you want to discuss sustainable and "green" energy though, a "basket" approach is best.

For example you might combine a wind turbine with solar power. Each can feed into a "bank" storing surplus electricity. Once your "bank" gets full you start using the "spill off". Then, when you have no wind or sun contributing you can draw from the "bank".

You could use a bike, maybe a stream fed hydro generator. Again, draw up your "bank" and use spill off after full. If you have trouble, swap out to sing the bank until you get clear of trouble. Refill the bank and go back to spill off.

The point being you combine different technologies, strategies to get your rough 30 Kwh per day. One of those strategies is using LED lighting, which reduces what electricity you need. Another thing to consider is Energy Star rated appliances such as deep freezer, refrigerator, dishwasher (if it's even needed), television, computers.

Energy Star finds the lowest possible required electricity use, usually for lowest cost but it works out for energy use too. People often mistakenly argue "green" doesn't cut it, not taking into account a "basket" approach toward energy creation/use. "Green" at one time did cut it because it had to, it still can if given adequate opportunity.

People don't want to do the hard to get the reward though. It's easier to bitch and complain, hope someone else acts the hero. Granted, I myself rather not have to do the hard but ultimately, push come to it, I would and gratefully so. Why? Well because I'm grateful to have been taught a good bit of it from those now gone on. Also grateful that I'd end up healthier for the doing.

I only saw a pic of one on eBay and it looked cool. Maybe I’ll look for a cheap one that’s not a vintage expensive one!

You want a conical burr grinder.
It makes ground coffee, not coffee knocked into ragged bits like a blade grinder.
Blade grinders cannot make an even grind for French Press...too many 'fines'...aka powder.

They are very $$$, but not if you go olde skool...I got this vintage hand-grinder from the 60s for like $35.
Hand made in Germany out of Beechwood. It'll outlive you.

And, it need no electricity....power goes out, ya can still make cold brew coffee. ;)
I still use an old Krup blade grinder for drip coffee, it wont matter as much there. But for pour-over, espresso, or French Press where you need to control the grind...there is no substitute.

A comparable electric model will be hundreds of dollars. And will fail, eventually.

Ah, good call brother. Knew there was something I had overlooked. I like using my French Presses too. Get a real good little pot of coffee out of them. :)

Simple is good.

Aye and simple is wise. :)

Gas stove works with no power you just need to light it.

Wood stove can work too, being lit up. :) When a boy mom used to make us breakfast in the Winter on our old Warm Morning flat top wood stove. She would do pancakes right on the top as a griddle, put the eggs in a cast iron skillet. And let me assure, bacon grease is a lovely frying agent.

Then at night we would put bricks on top of the stove a few hours prior to going to bed. Wrap a brick in a towel, put it in the foot of the bed. We'd get warm footsies and sleep good all night.

It is just me or has the Forum been kind if quiet lately?
Forums have seemed really quiet the past year or two imo. Compared to what they were like. Not sure if it's because everyone jumped on reddit and social media or what. Other than a handful of regulars, hardly ever many posts from folks. I see far more activity in a single fb group than I do around the forums most of the time.

Forums can facilitate longer posts/articles.Think perhaps less of that is desired. Longer material might perchance invoke thought. With everything going on now, fewer want bothered having to think. Only a theory and observation I entertain.

Not much time this weekend for VU. When I go out on road trips for work the weekends are for catching up on honey-dos and some rest... Back at it tomorrow then a week at home. I did sit out on the patio vaping while my dog was taking care of her business.

So true. I've pretty much gotten backlash most places, forums, social media etc for being a long winded gas bag lol. Unless I'm really in a hurry I'm not great at 140 character post it notes. I type the way I think, the way I'd speak. And if I'm trying to help someone I try to lay it all out as clear as possible so I explain myself and they grasp my point. Part of that's me thinking I fail to be clear rather than their not getting it.

Too often I've asked for help even with simple things. Maybe it's me that's dense. Like even an online game. How do you do this or that? And I get "on the screen click the thing". Do what?! What the fuck's 'the thing'. Maybe it works for others, maybe my esp is dull. I do prefer longer complete thoughts and sentences. My social media posts I'm sure make people groan. (Are fb responses supposed to be 6-8 paragraphs?) lmfao.
