anyone in/from florida? or with family and friends

florida is one of the only US states that I could point to on a map. And possibly the only one that I could in the absence of state lines penciled in

@5150sick is in Florida. It sounded like he was hanging in ok yesterday afternoon. South Carolina got hit fairly hard yesterday, but I don't know anyone here from SC.

did he get a secondary infection? or antivirals?
No clue, they don't know medical stuff and dont want to talk about it or ask questions really. Hell, dad has had a hernia for weeks while lifting 30-40lb boxes for work and refuses to get it fixed because some friend of his had a bad procedure on the same thing...it's infuriating.

@CaFF I hope your dad is doing better. Positive thoughts his way.
IDK, they don' talk about it much.

Mom had a positive test too yesterday, says feels like a cold....I don't think they really believe COVID is a thing. They'll have to self-isolate for like five days and retest..but who knows.

Paid my first 850 rent today...leaves me with $37 for the month. Only reason I can even do that is Dad said to sign the damn lease and the fam would help. They don't understand SSI rules..I cant have any outside monies coming in to the bank....you're supposed to be in poverty.

So, I have to pay the rent off SSI/SSA income, then everything else has to be paid via a VISA cash card dad gives me. Problem is, they cant understand that everything is done via the Internet now. All my bills are paid online...I live paperless.

Dad still uses cashier checks and cash...all bills are paid manually.

Hell, I asked if he could give me a ride to do laundry for my comforters and pillows...cit's gettin gcold at night and I cant take all hat shit on a city bus. He said he'd do it on his day off..that came and went and a month later my stuff is still sitting in bags in his car's trunk probably getting ruined. He doesn't care about possessions/things at all.

Now, they both get sick literally on the day I had to pay the new $850 rent....how the fuck am I gonna paid my bills and live if they can't get me the new card for this month???

I should have just walked out the door when I had $3100 in the bank months ago from COVID and rental assistance funds. I'll never have that much again...so zero hope of ever getting an Apt. or having money to store my shit and take a bus somewhere I can afford to live.

Wish I had the guts to just stick an air bubble in my arm and call it a day. I don't want to live like this anymore. Hell, back in 2019 I volunteered to get COVID and see if antibodies would result...but I didn't qualify.

They need to get off MY beach

They only come for the melanoma. Never see them in winter

21*C/69*F expected next tuesday

we should be up around 80*F by now :(

sorry, i get a bit obsessive about the weather

Being so close to the water probably makes it feel colder there than a comparable temperature would feel to me. My area is in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains.

I was just talking about this the other day, how cold it felt when we lived in Pensacola, Florida. People hear "Florida" and they think of warm weather, but Pensacola, being as it is so close to the Gulf of Mexico, the wind was always blowing, and I about froze my tush off in the winter there. When we lived there, though, I was out in the weather a lot because I didn't have a car. I rode the city bus just about everywhere I went.

Hopefully you'll get some warmer weather soon. I know you'll be glad.

Right now I'm tickled pink with the weather here - it's down in the low 40s at night and up into the low 60s during the day. That's perfect for me!

yes

IDK about florida. But often people from the northern hemisphere hear me complain about our cold, and view it frm a vantage point of housing having double glazed windows and insulation

we don't have those things, and cheaper houses here also have low roof arches

Morning!

Well, I had to turn the heat on yesterday morning, just for a short time. It was 58* when I got up! That's a long way from the 80*s. My body said a big nope to that. Today we might get up to 67*. Whatever this cold spell is, it's only supposed to be here for another day or 2. That's just too much of a change so quickly.

I need to get my rear in gear, there is base to mix up. I make enough to last about 6 months. Don't laugh at me but last time I mixed it, I forgot to add the nicotine, lol. I mean, just how did I do that? I started the washing up, looked around to what see what else needed washed, and there was my nicotine still sitting on the counter! Sheesh. Easy fix but where was my mind? Lol.

Stay safe and healthy :inlove::hug:

I just wanted to share this with all

May be a cartoon

Fable: DON'T ARGUE WITH DONKEYS
The donkey said to the tiger:
- "The grass is blue".
The tiger replied:
- "No, the grass is green."
The discussion heated up, and the two decided to submit him to arbitration, and for this they went before the lion, the King of the Jungle.
Already before reaching the forest clearing, where the lion was sitting on his throne, the donkey began to shout:
- "His Highness, is it true that the grass is blue?".
The lion replied:
- "True, the grass is blue."
The donkey hurried and continued:
- "The tiger disagrees with me and contradicts and annoys me, please punish him."
The king then declared:
- "The tiger will be punished with 5 years of silence."
The donkey jumped cheerfully and went on his way, content and repeating:
- "The Grass Is Blue"...
The tiger accepted his punishment, but before he asked the lion:
- "Your Majesty, why have you punished me?, after all, the grass is green."
The lion replied:
- "In fact, the grass is green."
The tiger asked:
- "So why are you punishing me?".
The lion replied:
- "That has nothing to do with the question of whether the grass is blue or green.
The punishment is because it is not possible for a brave and intelligent creature like you to waste time arguing with a donkey, and on top of that come and bother me with that question."
The worst waste of time is arguing with the fool and fanatic who does not care about truth or reality, but only the victory of his beliefs and illusions. Never waste time on arguments that don't make sense...
There are people who, no matter how much evidence and evidence we present to them, are not in the capacity to understand, and others are blinded by ego, hatred and resentment, and all they want is to be right even if they are not.
When ignorance screams, intelligence is silent. Your peace and quiet are worth more.
❤️

Floods are in the north of my state. But even here there is lots of road closures and lots looking like this

0b213a6dfa27f95bd5b57dcc30ca5efd.jpg

The aborigines have survived for 50,00 years there. Through ice ages and more...ya be ok mate. ;)
IMO, you are better off in AU than most places on the globe for what is coming...USA is gonna get a hard lesson in planetary dynamics. Me, I'd head due North....

My suburb is called Carrum Downs. Comes from the aboriginal Karrum Karrum. Which roughly translates to "Bloody big swamp"

Colonials drained it into the bay like this

And then act surprised

Heheh...sounds about right though...

On the plus side, you have more gingers there than anywhere on earth. I'm jealous. ;)
Be Well...

I am just glad to get there
I do understand that from your perspective, and am glad you made it...I remember...
Me, I don't have much to live for. Nor any sort of betterment being likely in the future.

If I didn't have Milly, I'd be gone. And nobody would even know.

But, I'm a bloody stubborn Scot-Irish fuck with insane genetics....I'm actually getting healthier as I age...doomed to Carry On...alone.

Ya... and I *DO* have a life partner that I chose out of 35 other cats in the viewing room....and that nobody else had wanted for six months. When they got their $20 for her, she was in a cardboard carrier and in my hands in under a minute...

We're both asocial, angry, and damaged goods....but, we're rejects together. It does work out. :D

She keeps me right.

Growing old is overrated, IMO.
I once heard an old man say "you have to brave to get old..." (or something like that) I'm only 62 but already get that. What keeps me going is my son and grandchildren. I'm lucky (don't have any major health issues) but because of my lifestyle, every year I feel much older than I am (mostly memory issues) Please find the strength to carry on. My mother (83) is doing OK but getting dementia (that's part of why I live here with her... to help her) She has an old friend that is 92... he is amazing! Still very smart and has clarity (and still drives on long trips) He is an inspiration to both of us. Not sure where I'm going with this... just felt I should say something.

I appreciate it man...all my birth fam is dead now, and both of my adopted grammas and my skitzo uncle who was my best friend too.

My adopted Mom and Dad tried, but they just weren't raised to believe in nor understand mental defects. Even though they had them. Mom had a crazy rage and insane jealousy problem back then. She saw Dad just TALKING to a cute emplyoyee of his as a Manager..oh man...

I was damaged from birth, an only child born preemie in the '60s at 2.2 lbs and 31 weeks to a 42yo mother. I wasn't supposed to be born...clinically.

Then, had a crazy childhood hidden away from the world and then put into fostercare at 14 having never been in humanity at all. DSHS said I had the emotional and psychological development of an 8yo at 14yo but with an adult IQ. Not a thing ya just learn your way out of.

The worst thing is being cognizant of your own issues and you can't do anything about it. The Down's kids have it good...happily oblivious.

My first day of school ever was in Jr High...I was 13...
I ran home after being abused, ridiculed, and bullied...I didn't get sympathy...I got screamed at for embarrassing her and forced to go back there the same day. It did not get better.

Four guys cornered me in a stairwell and kicked the fuck out me for no reason...why I cant have kids...

The same peeps were waiting when i got to HS. I never had a chance. I was like 5' and about 90 lbs...and a geek.

It was a different time.

But, it's one reason why I was diagnosed with juvenile PTSD. Still have nightmares to this day.

Still on the DSHS list as a special case too..used for teaching..lol

To say I have anger issues..well..ya'll have no idea of the special variety of rage I carry. I just black out sometimes.

Even a shrink of 45yrs experience couldn't fix me....I'm a 1 of 1 case. I should probably be in a mental hospital, but they don't have those anymore...just jails for catch and release and profit.

And, i didnt get to go to war and use it...all branches of the Military refused me.
Navy wanted me bad for my computer, electronics, and 98th percentile in mechanical reasoning, and I blew up the ASVAB. But, my eyesight was too poor. I was packed and ready at 0630 to go to MEPS...got the call from recruiter that I couldn't go. He was pissed. I was homeless after that..

I won't be dying in my sleep or in a bed, I can promise that...

@CaFF , geeze I had no idea. Don't know what say. But... here you are, a survivor. Go with that.
Ya, but I wish I'd never been born nonetheless. It was an error....for everyone involved.

My current rent is 850/mo...I get 861/mo in combined SSI/SSA...do the math.
I've paid my bills on time for 22 years...doesnt matter. Now, I'm reliant on my fam helping me out to have a place to live. And they are not tech-savvy.

No, there is no Sec8 to help me here since the list closed in 2016. They do not want the poor and it is legal to price ppl out of their homes...rent control is illegal in WA.

I talked to an apartment manager whie searching for a place I could afford...he'd rented an apt in 23mins never having listed it...

The Market is driving the economy here...$700 would get ya a room with a shared bathroom and kitchen.

i wish i could help u.
or give u good advice.
my mom had a job off the books. and she got her ss check monthly but worked in my old grade school off the books. is there a catholic school around you? theyll give out jobs off the books as long as u explain that u cant be on the books. most of em understand.
also, you seem very bright in math, have u had your iq checked? there has to be some job out there for bright in math people.
its sad the navy rejected you. dont get why they didnt just put u at a desk job that didnt involve your bad eyesight where u just crunch numbers.
and yea ssi is stupid. they dont understand 850 isnt enough to live on. especially in a big city where rent is silly high.
most people on ssi end up living w parents, or roommates. its crazy tbh.

oh yea. have u applied to getting food stamps yet? itll help. also, have u applied to getting a apt in the projects? rent in the govt projects is half of what u are paying now.
if u manage to live in the projects and get food stamps, you can actually end up saving money every month. instead of just squeeking by month to month.

See my previous post...zero chance of getting Sec8 here...the list has been closed since 2016.

I had a Goodwill housing counselor....she tried but gave up. There is no help. I'm 56, white, single male, not a Vet, gay, a drug addict, or BIPOC....they only help those who have evictions or are homeless. Not helping single white males from getting homeless...

Hell, her kid looks stoned..funny too that he's black and there aint no daddy around...surprise, surprise...bet her baby daddies are claiming dem kids for taxes tho...SMH.

But, that thing will get help, no doubt...she's too fat to keep her legs closed...mo money...

A $50 M1 rifle could solve that problem right quick...
Hell, this forum had Oathkeepers openly as members and most of ya are probably far-right...so nah...I don't feel bad.

Morning!

I'm gearing up to go clothes shopping! Something I only do when I absolutely have no choice. I do as much as possible on-line, but some things you actually have to see and or try on. Yuck. At least the sun is out and it's supposed to be in the 70's! Afterwards, I'll pick up my grocery order and scurry home. Get my shopping inside and show Jessie that I haven't left her forever, lol.

Stay safe and healthy :hug::inlove:

I went and met with the police officers setting up the haunted house hubby and I will be volunteering to scare at. This will be 3 nights of spooking. They already have one good place for him in his Krampus outfit. I will be scaring near two animatronic werewolves in my own werewolf outfit.

This is the 5th year they are doing this, and the setup this year is more than double the size from last year. They even brought in someone to do a concert.

Morning!

Today I am a pirate. Had my cataract done in my right eye yesterday, darn thing is still half dilated. I have a pirate patch my Hubby had for some reason, dug it out of the "things to donate" bag. I'm planted in my recliner "cuz my balance is off, lol. As soon as I'm done here, I'm going to listen to my audio book.

Hubby and I just got back from our final night of scaring the tar out of children and adults alike at the Haunted House. We bother had lots of fun doing it. Him as Krampus, swinging an axe and yelling at them for being naughty. Me as a werewolf, growl-speaking "yum yum" and "gimme and hand, or a foot. I'm hungry". Both masks have mouth that open when we talk, showing bloody teeth.

People screamed, cried, collapsed, cowered, grabbed another person for comfort, etc... we did our roles well.

There was one actor that coveted items I customized. He wanted to "borrow" the Krampus mask for Christmas, and was told "no". Then he tried to steal a fake arm I painted. It was just like one he brought, but mine looked better. Hubby and I both saw him try to take it to his car. As soon as we confronted him, it was returned. Not sure who tried to open our costume box, but we have an idea. It has two combination locks. I say "tried" because the scramble I did the previous night was different, but nothing was missing out of it.

We are looking forward to doing this again next year, but will have to do something to better safeguard anything that will not fit into the lockbox we use for our masks and other small items.

Sarah, you and hubby did great! Glad you had a fun time.

I'm spending the day getting ready for left eye cataract surgery tomorrow. Prepping a few meals, any trash taken out, laundry, lay out clothes for early morning start, etc. I'll fill tanks last thing tonight, put in fresh batteries.

Jessie will be confused again, poor baby. She really didn't understand, plus I took her toy eye patch! She took good care of me.

Ugh we have this today. Can't tell you how thrilled I am that I am still in this tiny rental house that is so terribly built. When it rains the water comes in under the doors and I have to put as many towels as I can down along the bottom, then ring them in the spin cycle, then dry and replace. Rinse and repeat lol.

Anyone else in the path of this crap coming, please be safe okay. looks to be a nasty one. I seriously hate this state. Sorry my fellow Okies but I'm a desert rat. Always will be.
Maybe I am still not used to this stuff yet, but it scares the crap out of me. Guess it's time I fix up a small suitcase with emergency supplies, water, vapes, meds, crackers battery powered lights (thank you Liion wholesale) etc etc, that I can pull into the bathroom with me along with my animals.

Hubby dropped off the pup at the vet yesterday to get neutered this morning. They called, letting me know everything went well, and I can pick him up this afternoon.

Hopefully, it will tone down his attacking my legs in the yard like he owns the whole fucking yard... and eating the small trees and bushes. At least he won't be marking the house with his urine like he owns that too.

Okay small update, all is well right now, the first front passed. Still have another coming but I found a live feed where the Sheriff's dept (I assume) and other emc, and volunteers, take up spots and broadcast. We did have the sirens go off right behind us and there was touchdown somewhere in the area. (Best I can tell from what they say anyway) Rotation and flying debris?? ya I guess that's a tornado right? lol. Anyway, it is comforting that I found this station to monitor. One unit is sitting right down the street from us at the church that sits on a small hill. We have a lot of flooding but so far, still standing here. :) Another storm should hit us around 4pm. I best take the pups out now. If Major will even go outside that is. He gets really panicky with thunderstorms. I gave him a doggie downer :)

Fun times ey?

I do at least have 2 backup units for my PC, monitor and internet modem if the power does go out.

Deb, you stay safe with all that crap going on.

I just picked up the pup. He is hyper as ever, and wants to go play outside. Vets orders are that he can't have anything to eat or drink until tomorrow. Since he eats trees and bushes, I can't let him out. That means I had to put the cover over the doggy door. Inside food and water are taken away. Oh...and he hates his cone of shame to keep him from getting at his stitches where his balls used to be.
