She was a great artist and songwriter, 1933-2003. By the years she lived, you can see she dealt with the pain of being black in America, and ended up among the many mid-century black American artists and writers who lived their final years in France. The French love American black musicians and were sensitive to their civil rights issues, though the French have their own karma to deal with from the colonization of North African countries, with "les Arabes" who make up an underclass of immigrants in Europe. Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed the song.She has such a pretty voice
