Winters calm

Love the images in that. I used to see a cardinal on the hedge outside my window all the time. No more. The 5 stray cats that populate our yard have completely wiped out the birds and squirrels on this entire block, not reduced them--wiped them out completely. I'm torn up over it. Cats are cute, but there was a crazy old bat next door who put out boxes and blankets for them to give birth, but then never gave them food or water, so they came here, and of course everybody likes cats, so people gave them food and water and treats, but our person in my building who used to take them to the vet to be "fixed", at her own expense, moved away, so now we get more new strays every spring. The crazy bat next door is gone, and the new people who moved in have completely different feelings about it, though I only get that through talking to my neighbors in my building. I haven't met the new next door neighbors.

Might be worth looking into any TNR programs in your area, that will at least eliminate the new kittens.

I am still waitin for my good thing to happen, well hold it I did make oatmeal today and it came out pretty good, usually runny or dry  but startin to get the hang of cookin the easy things so I guess that's a good thing. I never did cook much till now.

Practice making it dry-ish, because I HAVE to perfect your chocolate chip cookie recipe this weekend, and it needs a doughy consistency oatmeal to start with, although the eating consistency does dry out and get more dough-y as you stir in the other ingredients.

When you perfect making it dry-ish, you can always add a little hot water or heated almond milk to get it back to the eating consistency you like.

My only problem with the recipe I've been testing, is that the edges don't hold. They crumble off, so you can't serve a plate of them as cookies without each person having a plate underneath. Otherwise they're delicious and they're really cookies. I took some leftover out of the fridge yesterday and dipped them in balsamic vinegar. OMG, I don't know what made me do that but it was sooooooo goooooood.

Because somehow posting the theme song from an old Anime show in response to a Rush song just felt wrong. But I saw the word speed and that's what popped into my head so I went with it anyway.

I know what you mean. Sometimes when I'm following a serious or sacred piece with something like "The Fuckening", it feels funny. But it's word matching that counts, IMO.

Bird = Nightingale? I hope so because the piano on this version of the song is exquisite. You can just hear a nightingale outside the window. Stanley Cowell (1941-2020) was exceptionally creative.

Lovely piano playing. Here is a version I've always liked.

And with that I'm afraid I must be going.

Doesn't this look good

Candy Cane Brownie Trifle

candy cane brownie trifle served in wine glasses.
Everyone loves it. It looks really nice in individual vessels or you can make it in one big trifle bowl.

It is so rich, you only need a small serving. (Unless you're me 😅)

Dee says, "Our middle son requested your candy cane brownie trifle for Christmas. It was crazy delicious: the brownies with the fudge running through it, and the cream with crushed candy canes. We felt the same as you in that it is best if put together just before eating. I mean the fudge was still warm clinging on the brownies, the whipped cream light and fluffy, and the crushed candy cane still crunchy. Understand, the next day I was still stuffing my face every time I opened the fridge “to get something out”. Still, I do love the different textures on the first day! I’ve been reading your blog for several years now and haven’t tried any recipe that wasn’t a keeper!"

I can't have this kinda stuff but my eyes sure can :giggle:
