I think
the biggest “what the heck?”
(I’d probably use a different word, but this is a family-friendly list
) concept that people concerned
with wanting to take
a holistic approach to cancer struggle with, Jim…
one that’s plagued even me to this day…
is
on the
one hand, you’ve got
the Gerson therapy, which is one of, if not THE most documented protocols in successfully helping thousands of people reverse cancer…
which involves
juicing massive amounts of carrots & green apples, which means
an extreme amount of sugar (albeit “natural” sugar)…
and
on the other, you’ve got this mantra in the holistic health world that “
sugar feeds cancer,”
with many very knowledgeable
holistic cancer doctors saying that even if it’s natural,
excess amounts are still going to
benefit the
cancer cells.
Gerson has indeed
worked like a charm
for a whole lot of people; that’s been extremely well documented…
but not everyone, and I’ve met a lot of people personally who say there’s no question that it definitely was not helping them; then they did something else and got better.
Few things I’ve been thinking about on this front.
People familiar with
Gerson will note that it
only really “
works”
if you go all the way with it.
That means not just drinking a few glasses a day; it’s doing
the full-blown 10-12 glasses, the multiple coffee enemas
per day, the whole thing.
One trusted practitioner recently postulated that the reason for this is that at those levels, it turns from being an antioxidant to a pro-oxidant, which is damaging to cancer cells.
I haven’t had the time to fully dive into this line of thought, but it’s interesting to think about.
Then again, with Ryder, we
were juicing roughly the equivalent amount for his body weight
but weren’t by any means
following Gerson to the letter, and he still got better.
(We were also doing 50+ things at any given time, which doesn’t make us the easiest case study
)
What I think about here is that
we were also doing a lot to stabilize his blood sugar at the same time, some of it knowingly and some unknowingly, as
many of the general “anti-cancer” nutrients we had him on
also turned out to
help with this.
A lot of the
minerals we know, like
magnesium, zinc, chromium, vanadium, and selenium, all help healthy cells take up more sugar so that it doesn’t stay in circulation for cancer cells to get at…
along with
botanicals like
berberine, cinnamon, holy basil, green tea, turmeric, ginseng, bitter melon, etc…
which, by the way, with a good deal of the nutrients I just listed,
this could be an advertisement for our own product,
OUR 7, but it’s not.
I’ve also recently started thinking about the concept of “wearables” to track
your Heart Rate Variability, which
correlates quite well
with blood sugar levels, in response to what you eat, so you can see how it affects YOU…
but I haven’t yet gone all the way with figuring that one out.
For now, short of going “all the way” with Gerson, I think
the safest bets would be either
juicing a ton of vegetables that don’t have a lot of sugar in them
(you should definitely juice a whole lot of something either way)…
or if carrots and other plants with higher amounts of sugar
really call to you,
taking a whole lot of blood-sugar-supportive nutrients like those listed above.
And I should note that what got me thinking about this is
our webinar THIS WEEK on Metatrol,
which we also
had Ryder on religiously for the first few years…
because that has a bit different of an effect, in that it doesn’t necessarily help your healthy cells take up more
sugar…
but potentially even more importantly, it actually
PREVENTS cancer cells from taking it up!
Which is the only thing I know of that has such an amazing mechanism of action…
and in my opinion at least,
allows you to go all the way with any plant you want,
without being concerned it might “help the cancer.”
MOST amazingly,
that’s far from its only benefit!!
And best of all pertaining to
the webinar, I’ll be with Dr. Mary Hardy, who’s
a LEGEND in the world of
research on botanicals and cancer!
She
founded the Integrative Medicine Clinic at Cedars-Sinai, was the
Associate Director of the UCLA Botanical Research Center, and was the first
Medical Director of the Simms/Mann-UCLA Center for Integrative Oncology.
She knows her stuff, in other words, and is a fabulous person to ask about just about anything when it comes to botanicals and cancer
(among many other things).
