May be a black-and-white image of text that says 'Someone once asked me: Why do you love music so much?, I replied: Because it's the only thing that stays when everything and everyone is gone.'

I Am The Walrus - The Beatles

I knew of this poem, but only fell in love with it when a local restaurant used excerpts from it to promote the introduction of chicken fried oysters to their menu, which they could do because the poem is in the public domain. But the story ends so sadly 🦪😥

The sun was shining on the sea,
Shining with all his might:
He did his very best to make
The billows smooth and bright—
And this was odd, because it was
The middle of the night.

The moon was shining sulkily,
Because she thought the sun
Had got no business to be there
After the day was done—
"It's very rude of him," she said,
"To come and spoil the fun!"

The sea was wet as wet could be,
The sands were dry as dry.
You could not see a cloud because
No cloud was in the sky:
No birds were flying overhead—
There were no birds to fly.

The Walrus and the Carpenter
Were walking close at hand:
They wept like anything to see
Such quantities of sand:
"If this were only cleared away,"
They said, "it would be grand!"

"If seven maids with seven mops
Swept it for half a year,
Do you suppose," the Walrus said,
"That they could get it clear?"
"I doubt it," said the Carpenter,
And shed a bitter tear.

"O Oysters, come and walk with us!"
The Walrus did beseech.
"A pleasant walk, a pleasant talk,
Along the briny beach:
We cannot do with more than four,
To give a hand to each."

The eldest Oyster looked at him,
But never a word he said;
The eldest Oyster winked his eye,
And shook his heavy head—
Meaning to say he did not choose
To leave the oyster-bed.

But four young Oysters hurried up,
All eager for the treat:
Their coats were brushed, their faces washed,
Their shoes were clean and neat—
And this was odd, because, you know,
They hadn't any feet.

Four other Oysters followed them,
And yet another four;
And thick and fast they came at last,
And more and more and more—
All hopping through the frothy waves,
And scrambling to the shore.

The Walrus and the Carpenter
Walked on a mile or so,
And then they rested on a rock
Conveniently low:
And all the little Oysters stood
And waited in a row.

"The time has come," the Walrus said,
"To talk of many things:
Of shoes—and ships—and sealing-wax—
Of cabbages—and kings—
And why the sea is boiling hot—
And whether pigs have wings."

"But wait a bit," the Oysters cried,
"Before we have our chat;
For some of us are out of breath,
And all of us are fat!"
"No hurry!" said the Carpenter.
They thanked him much for that.

"A loaf of bread," the Walrus said,
"Is what we chiefly need:
Pepper and vinegar besides
Are very good indeed—
Now, if you're ready, Oysters dear,
We can begin to feed."

"But not on us!" the Oysters cried,
Turning a little blue.
"After such kindness, that would be
A dismal thing to do!"
"The night is fine," the Walrus said,
"Do you admire the view?

"It was so kind of you to come!
And you are very nice!"
The Carpenter said nothing but
"Cut us another slice.
I wish you were not quite so deaf—
I've had to ask you twice!"

"It seems a shame," the Walrus said,
"To play them such a trick.
After we've brought them out so far,
And made them trot so quick!"
The Carpenter said nothing but
"The butter's spread too thick!"

"I weep for you," the Walrus said:
"I deeply sympathize."
With sobs and tears he sorted out
Those of the largest size,
Holding his pocket-handkerchief
Before his streaming eyes.

"O Oysters," said the Carpenter,
"You've had a pleasant run!
Shall we be trotting home again?"
But answer came there none—
And this was scarcely odd, because
They'd eaten every one.

Hey I like that new user tag, Kad. Wishing you comfort and courage in the days ahead, as you adjust to being off the stinkies, and happiness and health all of the many years you're no doubt adding to your life.

:stars2:

🥂 What a way to start the new year! Bravo.
Thanks. But I've discovered that there is a rather undesirable consequence...

My car stinks!!! How did I never notice that smell before? How did any non-smokers ever manage to read in it without saying something?

Don't I know! After I quit smoking I got a new car 🤣

I really did, but the stars aligned and I was in that dual use phase, both smoking and vaping, when my previous car started to become very unreliable. I was already shopping for a new one when I went through my successful cig quit date, the Saturday after Thanksgiving 2012. I got the new car a few days later. Then in 2015 or 16 (can't remember) that dealership closed and I would have had to travel to Austin for repairs, where they were overburdened with customers because of the SAT dealership closure, so I traded it in for the car I drive now.

So I'm two cars beyond my last cigarette.

Get yours thoroughly detailed, then wipe it down with lavender essential. You can sprinkle it lightly and wipe it off with a clean cloth. It doesn't harm leather. I clean my purses with it. Use peppermint essential on non-leather surfaces, even over floorboards, carpet, everywhere, the trunk, ac/heater vents, everything. You could use up a whole 4 oz. dropper bottle of peppermint but it will be worth it. It doesn't cost that much.

Here is an article in some ways helpful. I wouldn't use any chemical aerosol you can buy, but it mentions coffee grounds and citrus peels, which could be helpful to leave sitting when the car is turned off.

Thank you for the tip. Coffee grounds? Would never have thought of that, but makes sense.

That History of Philosophy song is actually really interesting if you look past some of the oversimplifications. I laughed when I first started listening to it, but after listening I realized it's got quite a bit to say. If you haven't already, I hope you'll listen to the entire thing, it seems like the type of thing you'd be interested in.

Does the end justify the means
Thrasymachus said yeah
But tell that to someone dying for some else's idea

or

Royce and his boys turned to Hegel for the basics
Dewey said your mind doesn't learn shit it creates it
Students went to Germany brought shit back and spread it
Which is why today's smartest post retarded shit on Reddit

Some of the best lines though I don't think I could post, I know someone who got a post deleted for posting some of those words once back in the day quoting a rap song, so...

Historia de la Amor - French Latino translates to Love Story...

It does translate "A love story" or "the story of a love", and it's a sad story of loss. It was actually written by Panamanian songwriter Carlos Eleta Almarán, but has been covered by maybe as many as 150 artists, vocal and instrumental. My favorite is a languid semi-spoken version from Aida Salazar with the Estrada Brothers, but I can't find it on YouTube.

I did watch and hear the entire thing before posting a vote. Yes, it has some inaccuracies and over-simplifications, as if THAT never happened in history as entertainment, including novels, movies and TV.

Very, very funny video ("my nigga Heraclitus") 🤣 Thanks for posting that. I put Rucka Rucka Ali on my list of artists to explore further.

Congrats on quitting cigarettes! I know you can do it- stay strong and vape on!
Yes I bought a new car when I quit smoking, my treat to myself for not buying cigarettes. I still have that car over 9 years later and still smells new, lol! I was at my mom's funeral years ago and I could smell the smokers when they came up to me. I smell cigs in the parking lots too or when I walk thru the store. I thought, yep at one time I smelled like that too, ugh. It took a lot of cleaning and painting and new furniture to get rid of that smell in the house too, when I quit no one was allowed to smoke in the house. My hubby smoked for years when I quit, he had to go in the garage or outside. Yes I managed to quit with him still smoking.

Shadow of the Day - Linkin Park

I close both locks below the window
I close both blinds and turn away
Sometimes solutions aren't so simple
Sometimes goodbye's the only way, oh
And the sun will set for you
The sun will set for you
And the shadow of the day
Will embrace the world in grey
And the sun will set for you
