Eden Blues
-Georges Moustaki
Flowing down, the silver river
Rolls all the way to Sierra Nevada
We see the plain extend
East of Santa Lucia
The towns are called Natividad
San Miguel, San Lorenzo
The girls are called Soledad
The boys herd the flocks
This is where Jim met
On a road on a rainy evening
Catherine, a farmer's daughter
And they loved each other all night
The sun shines its gold
On a few rare puddles of water
The cactus forms the decor
Thistles cover the hillsides
This is where Adam the senator
Came to end his retirement days
Then he died of a heart attack
They say it's lovesickness
But the flowers laid down by the wind
Seem to pray for his rest
The moon drops a silver tear
On the white cross of the tomb
