I've seen some of that SESAC stuff too, but what I was seeing with the three Keren Ann song links I tried, including two from her own topic channel, was "Video unavailable. Playback not allowed..." like this:

Not able to share anything from Rush now. Something about SESAC and not allowed in the US...

Maybe this will explain the deletion of certain songs and artists- ridiculous, always about the money!

Thank you. I watched that, so now I don't have to look up the SESAC issue.

It sounded, toward the end of the explanation, like it's resolved, and the vids will come back soon.

Music licensing fees are way too high. It's a big scam that pays the licensing company administrators very well (BMI, ASCAP, etc.). Music artists want their music exposed to the public. It sells their recordings and concert tickets. It's okay to have those companies, because they send royalties to the artists that way, but the fees are out of control.

But to me the real stupidity is when an artist will not allow playback of their content on other sites, as if you couldn't subscribe to mp3 and wmv unlimited music services and create playlists on your computer.

Yeah, $$$$$$$.

On this game thread, I try to stick with the artists' topic channels for links, but you can notice "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is still up on YT under other individuals' channels, and is not restricted from viewing or sharing. That was how I finally nailed the Keren Ann song.

I read what I guess was kind of an editorial written by an indie artist who was saying that even the royalties earned by artists are basically nothing, the money mostly goes to the record labels. Then of course the concerts don't generate much revenue for the artist because that money all goes to Ticketmaster. So the only signed artists making any money are the big name stars, while an indie band can actually make more money than many of the signed artists by playing small local venues (thus avoiding the Ticketmaster fees) and dong their own record production.

To my taste buds, if you ignore the fact that a jalapeno has a tiny bit of heat and a standard bell pepper doesn't, they basically taste the same. Perhaps my tastebuds perceive it differently than other peoples, but to me the flavor is almost identical if you ignore the heat difference. So that makes me wonder why...

And that small local venue is the only kind of concert I like, always. I've been to a few of those big arena concerts and they really aren't nearly as much fun as an interesting nightclub, an evening of music with three bands, intermissions for socializing, easy bar access.

And true, the band names its price, gets that price, and the band members split it however they agree to among themselves. Some of them sell their CD's at a table and get to keep all the money from those sales.
