It gets worse... My best friend + cousin has tested positive. Luckily she got a mild case and has not needed to be hospitalized. She got it from an irresponsible employee that came to work sick, didn't tell anyone she was sick, and didn't wear a mask :(. Because of that employee's selfishness my granddaughter is now living under a contagious roof. Please keep them all in your prayers.
Oh, I'm so, so sorry, Pami. That's so awful! I will pray for them and your little grand-nugget. ? ?

Ah Ha! Got the hat trick! Another so so day seeming to be on the way.

My apologies if this is a downer for anyone. May want to consider it doesn't feel the greatest from this end either. As such I am stepping back from daily check ins.

Stepping back a lot from not only this forum but a few others I visit. In a way I'm stepping back a lot from life as well. Going to be keeping myself to myself. I'm just not fit company to be around to for a few good reasons. Again, sorry.

It sounds like you may have gotten some bad news from your doc regarding your kidney? I'm sorry to see you go and hope your health and family stay well and safe.

Ohio numbers at an all time high...

Gov DeWine issues MANDATORY MASK ORDER for ANYONE in a public space. Business owners will be held accountable for any employees or customers not wearing a mask. And must hang a MANDATORY MASK ORDER sign at your business entrance.
In one week if numbers don't improve, bars, restaurants, non-essentials will be closed again.

@f1r3b1rd

Pami, I really hope your granddaughter doesn't get sick. Please keep us posted. I would be worried sick.

The things people do! I tell you, a lot of this mess we're in could have been avoided if people had just had a care or a thought for the people around them. I'm sending my best her way.

Today, I got news. News that shook me. News that scares me.
My step dad, who has been the only dad I've known for 33 of my 39 years, was taken by ambulance to the hospital. He was diagnosed with emphysema recently. He had a home oxygen machine installed last Friday. Today he fell. My mother couldn't get him up. He couldn't breathe. She called 911. He can't keep his oxygen levels right even with the machine. They took him in today and informed my mother that he also has covid 19.

This is terrifying. He has always been a strong person. A good man. A dam good role model and father figure. I can't even go to my mom and hug her. She now has to be tested for covid and quarantined.

I pray that he can make it through this. I pray for him and my mother.

So many thoughts, prayers, and tears today.

It sounds like you may have gotten some bad news from your doc regarding your kidney?

It's unknown news so far. All our local hospital seems fit to be is a first aid station. Kid you not when I went for my broken foot the doctor on call for the E.R. that day asked why I was there. Told him I thought my foot was broke since I couldn't put weight on it.

"Well, I'll need to get some x-rays to tell," he actually replied. "I can't see inside your foot after all," He said as though I thought he could. Granted I know I may have been a bit of shock but he didn't need to patronize or condescend. I figured the foot needed x-ray-ed, gee why else go to a hospital?

When they did a CT scan to check on pain in my left flank they reported back that my appendix looked fine. My mom told me to ask for a refund for when she took me to get it out when I was boy. I've only run as an E.M.T. and had CNA certification but the doctors, nurses at this hospital keep acting as though I could be hired as a twenty to thirty year in nurse or doctor. It's a real inspiring hospital, possibly worse than a VA hospital.

The doctor I'm seeing at its clinic as our family general practitioner thinks my atrophied kidney might be from passing kidney stones. He refereed me up to another specialist in Parkersburg, a kidney doctor who speaks English, Hindi, Urdu. Seems we outsource all the good doctors. So, I need to wait until January to know, good, bad, in between. I've had this pain in my side for over a year and half. I've had colonoscopy, looking into my bladder, blood work panels.

Had a bad bout of this pain when me and her were living in the apartment. It put me on the floor from standing to crawling. I had to slither back into bed with her it hurt so bad. Figure that was a stone passing then. It flares up, this pain, sometimes only dull others real bad. Figure I'm still passing some stones.

If the local hospital was more than a band aid dispensary, they might have realized sooner, offered some kind of help. I know that now they can use ultra sound to break up stones, or medicines. No, instead they like every other fucker out there choose to not do their jobs. That way when I finally ask for help, it's too late, help is all used up. Sorry but no, I don't see docs over hang nails. If I'm in a hospital/doc's office ... um, it's something to it.

So like I tell my wife, I get back up and around I'm going to go apply for all the jobs. May as well as nobody is doing shit. Instead of me being pissed off, I'll do something about it, even if it means working rotating split shifts in various different jobs.

"Here's doctor Ben, and here's Lawyer Ben, Mortician Ben, Mechanic Ben, Restaurant worker Ben, .... "

I just hope someone can keep up and keep doling me out paychecks. Fuck, I'll probably need to do that too.

Just spoke with my mother. She informed me that Charlie, my step dad, also dad pneumonia on top of emphysema and covid. Wtf.
She says he's waiting on a bed at the hospital, but they have him on some steroids and antibiotics and said he's more stable with his breathing and oxygen levels.

Thank you all here for the prayers, thoughts and virtual hugs. I love Charlie as tho he was my real father. Never hit me until today when I got this news. I feel I may have taken him and his patience, guidance, and willingness to parent me for granted. I hope he makes it through this ok....

Friday the 13th today, starting off with a bang...windchill is nasty. Winter weather advisories all over the state. Thundersnow, anyone?

Snap4.jpg

Milly was curled all up in the covers with me this morning, she doesn't mind the cold but winds freak her out. She just needs to run it out then she'll chill. Gave her a tiny bit of catnip too, it calms her.

We're fine otherwise. I went and got a couple more pairs of my fave 'thermal layer' modern version of long-johns yesterday and a fine Pima cotton/Merino wool sweater...they rock. Got enough food for me and meat for Milly for a months and bills are all paid, so Bunker time is fine with me.

I'm gonna watch The Masters which is getting good, and some football later. We're good.

It could be a bad day, or so so one today. It's the anniversary of my Pap's death. So yes, it could not be a good day.

Excuse me though. I'm going to do something rather simple at this moment. What I'm going to do is so powerful though, it can knock a bad day right on it's butt. Watch my :cloud::cloud::cloud::cloud::cloud::cloud:.

:)

Love and miss you, Pap. I'm trying to remember the way to live you taught me. Know you're on the next level fishing. Get back to it. The river there never runs out of fish. Me and uncle Buddy will be there when its our time.

:)

Poor man. <3 Sounds like the problems have piled onto him in a big way. I hope for you and your family that all will turn out well.

I also had a step-parent. I was not aware of taking him for granted while I was growing up, but once I had my own children, I thought it through more and realized the sacrifice and selflessness it would take to be a step-parent. It takes a very special kind of person. I am not sure I could have done it myself, so I have a lot of admiration for people who can, and who are gracious and patient with it.

I will keep you all in my thoughts. I am not a person who prays, but what good I can send your way, I surely will. ?

I also picked up some of these things, they are basically fancy MRE's.
I can also extend them with my own rices, veggies, or w/e. Pretty cheap meal stuff for the pantry.

Got more pastas too, I just empty the bags into big pickle jars...they'll last a decade in there.

IMG_20201113_074854.jpg

Delish stuff, healthy grains, and lasts a long time in storage. They are fully cooked in heavy foil packs, just heat 'n eat. Will go nicely with the Chuck roast I got....bonus...the slow-cooker will heat the kitchen up. ;)

I'm well and thoroughly hooked on these Zatarain's mixes I've been buying - the jambalaya, dirty rice, and red beans and rice. I hope my husband likes them ok, because I have loaded up on 'em. Probably more salt than I should have, but dammit, everything that tastes good has too much salt in it.

I just had blood work done, and sodium/potassium (and blood pressure) are within normal limits so I'm not gonna worry about it.

As good as you are with spices and such, you'll be able to do dozens of different things with those basic mixes. Sign of a good cook, I think, to take basics and make something great out of them, with or without recipes. Instinct sometimes turns out amazing things!

Yeah, I grew up with a Betty Crocker era mum who grew up on a dairy farm in the Depression. We learned how to make good out of nada. Fortunately, I'm where the food is nowadays.

Still have the best cookbook ever though; Mom's Joy of Cooking from like 1971. :D

Decided the BR was bugging Milly and I, all this wind and she wants to be out in LR and I miss the new computer. Somehow, the enormous space of the 25'+ ceiling dampens the wind noise in here, so she likes it better. I like my leather couch and 'command center' coffee table better too.

She was annoyed...we don't want that.
jlDF9Nyl.jpg

So, moved all my vape shit over there again and drug out my $4 awesome little Holmes 1-touch space heater I got awhile back. It's very handy and even has it's own breaker on the cord, anti-tip sensors, etc.

I set it on a glass entertainment center thing for safety, set it for 60F and bam, it is.
A lootttt cheaper to heat the immediate area then the damn dual huge baseboards. The old Yamaha A/V Amp generates a good amount of heat too. Win-WIn. ;)

(I know this isn't the food thread, but seemed to be in continuity here.)

Fun food: leftovers galore.

IMG_20201113_102100.jpg

It's bean & bacon soup with some leftover brown rice and a chopped-up lonely turkey hotdog. Added some smoked habanero sauce, seasonings, chopped fresh spinach, fire-roasted corn, and a handful of shredded colby-jack cheese. Nuked until heated through and ate it watching The Masters like a dip, with thick white corn tortilla chips. Yummers.

Also some good news: I got the reply letter from SNAP for my energy assitance...it's just a form I need to sign and mail back since there are no in-person appointments this year. Signed it and put it in the out slot, so that's a weight off. :)

First, you're getting kidnapped, inform your Mrs. Kitteh. Will take you out along the river. I can scrounge up some grubs, worms and of course some fish. Likely get some water and field cress, some mulberries, wild onion, mustard, horseradish. Probably all we'd need to buy would be beer and I'm a cheap one for that. Might find some acorns so we'd have acorn flour.

In short you don't need to worry about wild edible or not. Pretty well enough versed in that as well as hunting, trapping. Can live right with the land if needed.

Second, you'll probably get that heating assistance. People in general like to help others even in the most bureaucratic jobs.

Morning!

Have to go to Walmart, pick up our order. Might hit McD's, just because we rarely do. Otherwise it's home and comfortable with Jessie. She was on the back of my recliner last night while I was on the phone with daughter, she started playing with my hair. Next thing I know she popped me with her paw! Don't know why and of course she looked so innocent. Daughter was laughing so hard.

Stay safe and healthy

Yeah I grew up on 7 acres of what had once been a farm in the 40s-50s. Not much there, the well was shot, electric didn't work well, and heat was a wood stove. But it had a lot of good things too and we made a 1-acre organic garden out of it.

Later on in another life with the foster fam, took all the badges in my Royal Rangers era...only been about 40 years though..lol! Used to love to camp and fish as a teen, but all my buddies from that moved away and never saw any of 'em again.

I ended up a city person...which is fine. I like city stuff..access to things, technology, etc. There are trees and parks everywhere here with mountains ,forests, praries, you name it just miles away. Hell, river runs through downtown and a state park abuts part of it too. WA is a farming state too and so lots of fresh stuff and farmer's markets everywhere...except this ghetto area. If ya don't have a car or money to take busses all over, ya get what ya can.

The INW here isn't anything like the Eastern or Southern parts of the country at all...it's hard to relate.

Second, you'll probably get that heating assistance. People in general like to help others even in the most bureaucratic jobs.

Yeah, I always get it, just was odd this year not having in-person appointments. Had a great young gal talk to me though so it was kinda fun. I've lived in state and federal bureaucracy since I was 13yo. It's just life. :)

Bunch of games were postponed or cancelled for today, but I'm looking forward to this matchup:

I spent a lot of time at WSU with an ex-gf that went there, and my cousin played strong safety for the Ducks back in the day. I can tell ya, Martin stadium in winter is frickin' nasty...those Oregon boys gonna freeze their nuts off.... ??

Ah, anything akin to BSA? Could have Arrow of Light at 13. BSA rules though you need to be 18 to do it, involves camping out a week on your own. My Pap and Uncle Buddy let go out in the wilds on my own for a week at 13. They even vouched for the scout masters. Still no dice, I couldn't get AOL patch. My Pap took me on out to the truck. My uncle had some words for them. He got in and told me the same as Pap, "you don't need boy scouts anymore." I had gotten award Scout the year prior from being a WEBLO.

And yeah, that's been ages ago here as well. Thirty five years it's been. Hm. Think I'll skip over thinking of all those years.

Morning!

The hoarders are back! We went to pick up our regular order at Wally's, took us 2 trips and nearly 3 hours! No butter, no peanut butter, etc. Glad were still have some at home. What is wrong with these people, didn't they learn from the last time? Sheesh.
Jessie is playing games with Hubby this morning. If he gets up to get coffee, she's in his recliner. Ok he sits at his desk. He gets up, she gets in his desk chair. She's been doing this all morning, lol.
Her version of musical chairs, I guess.

Stay safe and healthy

No lack of supplies here...but then I don't go to the huge stores. Hell, the discount store has all PPE/TP/Santizers on sale trying to get rid of it. We're talking gallons of sanitizer and etc.

Me, I found I still fit into my faux-letterman's jacket from the 80s.
I did letter in Track in HS, but never got a jacket. I got this Japanese 'Van-Jac' one later on about '87. Wore it A LOT back then.

Not bad for football watching now. I AM ready for some Football!!!

Milly woke me early when the winds hit again,...argh.

But it allowed me to get in a nice big brekky hoagie, coffee and some vape before TV time. :)

We have been looking for Lysol disinfectant spray for months. We were lucky enough to have just bought some right before the you-know-what hit the fan back in March. Today I looked at Walmart, Walgreens, and on Amazon and eBay and there is no Lysol spray to be had that isn't $18 for a can that should cost $6.

So I went looking for a way to make something similar at home, and found this:

The overview is that it's made with 70% alcohol, a tiny bit of hydrogen peroxide, and a small quantity of four essential oils that can be bought on Amazon for about $10. That $10 worth of oils would probably be enough to make GALLONS of spray, so it's economical, too.

Posting this just in case anyone needs it.

Please stay safe and well.

You're gonna hate this.....

This is the Discount store I go to, well, there are actually more than one, but they use the same FB page.
Think Costco leftovers and stuff...then about 50-80% off that tagged price.

This is their COVID supplies posting a few days ago.

Screenshot from 2020-11-15 11-44-08.png

I was at one of the stores, the smallest one, a couple days ago and they ain't lying...an entire aisle of the stuff. Me, I just get Isopropyl alky, sanitizer, TP, and even masks at the dollar tree store. They are never out of cleaning supplies.

See how you are now. Go copy my running in track. Ha! Bet you did sprinting. I did distance running. We used to go out and do eight miles of the evenings. Didn't stop me out sprinting our football quarterback though. I pushed him to break the 400 meter record. No way I would be fool enough now to try running. Likely find me in a pile keeled over from the ticker blowing out of the chest.

Well, this isn't going over well around here:

Gov. Inslee announces new statewide restrictions on dining, gatherings as COVID-19 cases surge

Posted: November 15, 2020 11:02 AM

by Emily Oliver

OLYMPIA, Wash. — Washington Governor Jay Inslee has placed new restrictions on gatherings, dining, retail services and more in what he says is an effort to slow a “rapid and alarming” rise of COVID-19 cases in the state.

Beginning Monday at midnight, bars and restaurants will no longer be allowed to offer indoor seating. Outdoor seating will be allowed as long as proper safety protocols are followed. That means tables will be limited to no more than five people at a time. Customers can still order to-go, Inslee says.

The guidance also bans people from gathering inside with anyone they don’t live with. If you do want to spend time with people outside your household, it will need to be in an outdoor setting, Inslee says.

The restrictions prohibit gyms from offering indoor services and say outdoor fitness classes can continue, as long as they don’t exceed five people in a group.

Entertainment venues like movie theaters, bowling alleys, museums and zoos will all be banned from offering indoor service, though drive-in theaters will still be allowed to operate.

All in-store retail will be limited to 25% capacity, and lingering in seated areas is off-limits.

Inslee says the new guidance does not apply to education, including K-12 instruction and higher educational settings.

Well, a decent day, did some vape things.

Then, I decided to go take a walk and go by a store. By the time I'd gotten dressed for outdoors, I hear rain.

A lot of cold and windy rain....Poop....

rain-ugh.jpg

Think I'll just wear my waterproof parka and bring my golf-size umbrella....this IS the INW after all. ;)

*edit*

Did the store walk , I looked ridiculous all head to toe in black wearing a mask...strange days.

AR3ZFh5.jpg

If I went into a Rite Aid like that a year ago, a cop or security would've been following me all over thinking I was a robber. o_O

I went past the now larger homeless camp on the block next to the store...and a block from the hospital...I counted 7 tents and cardboard whatever there now. Fortunately, they aren't in the way of people getting to the store. I walk the other side of the street and cross where the store is.

Such lovely neighborhood....SMH.

Just got a phone call.
My mother was taken by ambulance to the hospital. She fell. Couldn't breathe. Suspected covid since my step father has it and is still in the hospital with the rona. He won't be able to come home until after Thanksgiving, if he's healthy enough. I won't know details about my mother until hopefully tomorrow morning.

I tried to text her earlier today, and her responses were unusually short, and spelled horribly. Then she said she was tired and needed to take a nap. I said to my wife that I'm afraid she has covid and it's making her very tired and a little aloof. Then an hour or so later, my sister called me and told me she was taken by ambulance.

I'm honestly terrified right now.

I said to my wife that I'm afraid she has covid and it's making her very tired and a little aloof. Then an hour or so later, my sister called me and told me she was taken by ambulance.

I'm honestly terrified right now.
Wow, that's terrible...wishing the best for you and your fam...

I'm always afraid of things with mine as it's two 70yo's and a 94yo with Dementia in the same house. With Sis and BIL right next door as it's a duplex. All of 'em have existing conditions that would be problematic.

I'm awake at farkin' 0430 'cuz Milly has been sleeping with me in or on the bed now, and either one of us wakes up, we both do..lol...still happy to have her be there though.

Wow, I'm so sorry to hear this. Warm hugs and prayers headed your way for you and your family.

She makes me smile every day, no matter how dark it has been.
Here is hoping she can shed some light in other folks day as well.

So things got a bit worse in the last couple of hours. Both parents, in hospital for covid. Same hospital, different floors. Both being put on ventilators as I type this. Neither can maintain a healthy oxygen level. Speaking, sitting up, taking a step, it all leaves them both out of breath and drops their oxygen levels dangerously low. They tried bypap machines, like a mask that helps regulate oxygen, but it's not working, so ventilators is the next step. I can't see either, or talk to either. Haven't seen them in several months. I did get a text from my mom right before the ambulance picked her up, she told me she loves me. That's all I have to hold on to right now.

I don't have many friends in the world... And my family is small. This is terrifying.

Thank you and a continued thank you to all my VU friends and family for your well wishes and prayers.
