Heh... indeed. But getting them to agree to a nursing home, and put their "estate" into a family trust beforehand, that's the rub. If they don't put everything they've got into a trust, then medicare will take IT ALL, and there will be no inheritance whatever for me or my stepsister. But my parents are so fucking hard-headed, they'll never see that coming, drag their feet, and when it's time to get them into a nursing home, none of it will be done, and tney'll no longer be capable mentally of carrying it out. My mom is the Queen of Denial... her body is going to hell at super-speed, and she "doesn't want to talk about it." I considered myself fortunate to escape them when I was 24, by moving 800 miles away... but then came back after I had a child, so he could have extended family. Now I'm stuck here, with no help except an 83 yr old aunt.

That's REALLY cool then! Sorta like my diamond anniversary band... the diamonds are tiny, but there's 10 of 'em... it was a $400 ring, which they made us a good deal on, we got it for just a little over $300 -- so it's real 14k gold and actual precious diamonds, even if they are tiny, none of that Walmart 10k gimcrackery.

Trolls are generally like gnats. Just brush them off. This particular one breached all human decency though IMO. I don't give a rat's ass what he says to me. We half way raised a few kids that weren't ours (we couldn't afford it either) and now that they are adults, the dividends have been very large to us.

You're right. Don't want my kid over there but it's the lack of reciprocation or any attempt that makes me feel our family is being used to some degree.

You're also correct on the dividends. I have friends who hung at my place and I hung at theirs and am still close to their parents as they were close to my mother. I love the fact that this community is close knit and I know every kid my child's age. Kids will show up on my trampoline and I text the parent and ask what time they should be home. Most parents are concerned and want to know where their kid is. This mother seems to be as concerned but wants the neighborhood to raise her child. Just find it odd.

Oh boy, I can already tell you how THIS story ends. You and the other mother go and realize what a complete and total train wreck this woman is, and that her child is even more of a victim of the mothers dysfunction than both of you COMBINED, and you both end up taking on even more of the responsibility for this poor kid. I'll wait to find out if I'm wrong. You seem like WAY too nice of a guy, and I've seen the root of the symptoms you're describing, to expect anything different. Wish I had a better prognosis for you.

My wife thought she'd head things off at the pass and went to visit the mother after brownies last night. The result is we're having a sleep over tonight and nothing changed. As I said, we love this kid and she's been a regular in our house for about 3 years. The mother is shacked up with her sisters ex, they both have kids and the kids are confused whether they're siblings or cousins. This woman also has a 20 year old son who's in jail for murder. Can't judge the mother by that but I really never wanted anything to do with this family.
