I've never heard of a dairy keeping a bull (steer) for that long, but if you can get them weaned, HELL YEAH! That's the best way to do it. :)

You've been listening to The Authorities again, haven't you? ;) I know a lot of people follow vets' advice to the letter (which includes a lot of money making stuff for the vet), but trust me, you can raise cows with nothing but grass and water. I've had my little herd for 9 years now, and nobody's ever gotten a vaccine for anything, and nobody's ever gotten pinkeye. I've had to give antibiotics a time or two for a bout of mastitis, and one 5-week preemie calf needed some steroids and antibiotics for a lung infection, but that's it. (The calf made it, by the way, and grew up to be a fine fat steer.) Once they're past the "fragile calf" stage, they're pretty indestructible. Clean bedding, clean pasture, clean water, and you don't usually have any problems.

Exactly. Only cows raised commercially need all that crap done to them, because of the filthy conditions they're kept in. I'm quite certain it's EVERYTHING to do with how much money the vet can extort, and nothing to do with a real cow's real needs, when kept in humane conditions.

Oh, @chopdoc I don't know if ALL butcher shops do this, but around here, at least up until we had our last one butchered 4 years ago, if a steer or cow is more than 2 years old, they have to be tested for Mad Cow Disease. They might not require it anymore, but I know they used to. You might just plan on grazing your steers for 12 to 18 months and have them butchered before they turn two, just in case. You're not going to get more meat after that, in any appreciable amount, anyway. By two years old, they're ready, and believe me, YOU will be anxious to see them go, especially if there are two of them. ;) Steers can be very destructive. I know this to be a true fact. :D

Good to know. Cows been living for many many years without mans help. All I plan on doing is getting them, letting them graze and putting them in the freezer. As little fuss as possible. Already have the whole place fenced in, all I really need is to fence off my moms acre and a water trough. 12 to 18 months would work for me just fine. Get one, then 9 months later get another. Then every 9 months butcher and get a new one. Free beef for life :)

Was on Ebay earlier and looked at some Merlins and seen they are being sold with Roxy's autograph, so I ordered one. Roxy mailed me thru Ebay asking if I wanted it autographed so I told her I only if Petey autographs it :teehee: That's when she recognized me. So I will be getting a Merlin autographed with Petey the parrots foot print :D

Well actually... domesticated cattle are domesticated cattle because of human domestication of animals that descended from the extinct auroch; the thing they've historically done just fine without is intrusive scientific medical meddling. The modern age is responsible for that, the idea that people AND animals need all this medical intrusion in their lives, rather than common sense diet and living conditions.

Yes, I found Effexor to be nearly a miracle drug, considering the extremely deep and suicidal hole I was in at the time, along with an anxiety disorder that was nearly off the charts -- I couldn't ride in a vehicle on any type of freeway without feeling the need to hide in the footwell and shriek in panic. Getting a truck helped a lot with that anxiety, I could actually see over most of the behemoth SUVs on the road, and didn't feel quite so much like every tractor-trailer was about to squash me like a bug. But I stayed on Effexor for 2 yrs, medicinally, and it took another year of gradually weaning off; the withdrawal from that stuff is terrible, but it does help a great deal with both severe depression and severe anxiety.

Andria

Well at least for now it is not similar to Prozac. I was off of that in two weeks, it made things a lot worse instead of better. Think my anxiety is the form of constantly moving and now not which messes with equilibrium. Also I do what is called mirror moving. This means if my right hand is moving, my left does as well. This is due to the KS, which is congenital and not genuinely correctable.

Prozac worked pretty well for my post-partum depression, but for the depression I suffered about 13 yrs ago, a combo of hormonal mayhem and PTSD, all it did was rip the depression away rather violently, leaving the rage, and not even touching the anxiety. When I had such a screaming fit that I gave myself a nosebleed, I knew it was time to try something other than Prozac. Tried Welbutrin, which didn't do much of anything except give me puffy ankles and enable me to postpone my after-meal smoke for up to 30 mins -- if I'd been trying to quit smoking then, that might have been helpful, but quitting smoking couldn't have been further from my thoughts, with all the other shit I was dealing with at the time. So then I tried Effexor... and within a week, I seemed more like ME, not so many crying/screaming fits, and along with good therapy and good support from my husband, it worked tremendously well for me. Getting off it was very hard, yes, but not as hard as trying to find a way to keep living, before I was on it.

You would hate my car, Toyota celica, the 93 model :D I want a new vehicle but it just isn't in the cards right now. Definitely going to get me a truck, tho. You can't really have a teeny tiny car where I live and not have problems.

I would hate riding in ANY car at this point; it's gotta be either a truck or an SUV up on big tires. Small price to pay, to keep me outta the footwell and shrieking everytime he puts on the brakes.

Part of the problem is the way my husband drives, and he is 500% resistant to learning any other way -- he doesn't seen to grasp the idea of applying the brakes gently, and slowly, calmly slowing down, no, he's gotta stomp the sumbitch so hard I nearly get whiplash, and the truck comes to such a sudden stop that it sways backward. If I scream, yell, or say anything, he starts going "Oh, and you're the ONLY one who knows how to drive! Next time, I'll let YOU drive!" and other such horseshit. So until we got the truck, I just simply wouldn't go anywhere with him that I didn't absolutely have to. Now, when he does absolutely STUPID things while driving, i still shriek at him, but my fear is more easily managed, being up high enough that I can actually SEE, over those goddamned behemoth SUVs. I still get very nervous next to tractor-trailers, but he knows that, and if we have to pass one, he does it as quickly as he can. It was much easier to convince him to buy a truck, than learn to drive properly.

I have to be the one driving or else I need to pop a dramamine. I get car sick super easily... basically cuz riding with my mom for 18 years. She drives like a bat out of hell. :blech: The only person I've ever rode with who doesn't make me sick as a dog is my fiance. :bliss:

I really need a tall vehicle so that way at night I'm not blinded by every single vehicle on the road. I'm so low that my car horn should sound of Low Rider! :D I actually scraped the road the other day with my back bumper :teehee::teehee:.

I also get very very scared when a big ol' "sMack" truck gets behind me.:eek: can ya guess why I call 'em that?:giggle:

Ive never really had a problem with motion sickness, other than briefly right after I got sober, and if i woke in the middle of the night in a completely dark room, while sleeping on a waterbed, I suffered ungodly vertigo; I felt like I was in free-fall, couldn't orient myself in space. Ditching the waterbed helped a little, and keeping a nightlight on, but it was a few uncomfortable years of vertigo/minor motion sickness until my equilibrium re-adjusted. It doesn't bother me much anymore, though I occasionally get a few seconds of "positional vertigo", which is like, whee, I don't remember drinking that fifth of tequila, for 2-5 seconds. :D

I used to hate those bigass trucks to the bottom of my soul... but then I realized that they support the consumer economy; without them, nothing would make it to the stores. So I just drive a big pickup truck and try to give them as wide a berth as possible.

Morning, Fugees!

Hey, I love my RX200. It's the nicest mod I have. And the heaviest, but it's my "coffee table mod," so it's all good. :)

The RX 200 always reminds me of those big-ass heavy coffee table lighters everyone had in the 60s, lol.

Don't have the RX200 to compare, but I just got an RX2/3 tonight. Yay vapemail! Anyway, it's actually much smaller than I would have guessed even in the 3 batt configuration.

Hey guys.
Howdy! I think I've seen you before, maybe on the Porches? Regardless, join the madness that is this thread. Unless you are looking for normal people, they are in short supply in this thread. Well, maybe @Atchafalaya counts as normal, but only because I recently nicknamed her Abby Normal.:D

Hello Celt! You just reminded me of when I had appendicitis..They did an exploratory
I got opened up from belly button to just above my pubic area so I ended up with a bunch of stitches
and 17 staples in my gut...My mom did me the favor of taking me to doctor's
everyday for wound care and she managed to drive over every single bump she could find on the road..

FL finally took away her driver's license and I'm glad 'cause the woman is a menace on the road.

Evening fugees.....

Being self employed I get a LOT of phone calls, but today seemed to take the cake. One nitwit after another calling asking bizarre questions. Then I had some scam artist calling me leaving messages saying he was with the IRS. So I call this guy back. He tells me if I don't go to a Safeway shopping center and buy ITune cards to pay taxes I'll be arrested this afternoon...some dumb fucking Nigerians I guess....anyway....I try calling the IRS to report this numbskull. Naturally nobody at the IRS answers the phone. Then I call the treasury inspector generals office...I get voicemail to leave a message, then the guys voice mailbox is full, so I can't leave a message there....so I call the FBI, they said it's not their department, told me to call the treasury inspector generals office....told the nice lady I already did, and his voice mailbox is full....unfucking believable how pathic our fucked up federal government is...I finally said fuck it and stopped for a couple cold ones. If anyone gets a phone call to pay taxes with iTune cards, it's not the IRS....lmfao.....:giggle:

it was you because you changed your avi there to some macho wannabe thang
and the first post I read was you crying about your mommy.

Why I would want to stalk your fat ass is beyond me...but it's still good to see you.

What a crock of shit. I happen to know far more than you think I do about your stalking of someone else, (I never said it was me you were stalking) and call me crazy but the person you have been stalking shows up in a thread, comments on one of my posts, and you suddenly show up here out of the blue talking about what I said over there? And you expect me to believe your version of events? Bullshit, you were stalking them, and because they answered me you had to come here and be a dick. But no surprise because so far every thread I have seen you in you end up being a dick to somebody.

I overheard my wife get one of those IRS calls. Of course my curiosity was piqued. At first she was just.. incredulous sounding. Then, it turned to rage, and I had to go put on clean pants, and I wasn't even wearing pants. It became obvious after a bit she was talking to a scammer, but at first, I was horrified! She doesn't even HAVE a dick, so they can't possibly do all she told them to.

I have the coolest thing on my phone, from Metro-PCS, called Metro Block-It, or NameID. It automatically blocks bill collectors, solicitors, and known scammers, and you can also add any number you like, and also do a reverse look-up. It's $2 a month, but it's a sweet app! ETA: you can also file a complaint about a call, straight from the app!

I'm such a caveman. Started watching "Game of Thrones" a week or so ago. Wife has seen it all but will watch it with me and spoil every surprise. Episode 6, it's OK. One handy take down from it though, is my favorite new line when the Mrs. disagrees with me in public. Requires a bit of roar.. "I am your LORD!".

$2 doesn't bother me, for access to their lists of collectors, spammers, and scammers; it's awesome! It will even block the weird text-msg digits. I'm using their $30/mo plan, which is one GB, because if I use 100mb of data, it's a lot; I don't go many places, so I'm mostly using data from my comcast wi-fi at home, or my mom's AT&T wi-fi at her house.
