Lymphedema: How to Prevent & Heal It Naturally​

Why is the Lymphatic System Important?
Our miraculous body has multiple ways of removing toxins from the body. The lymph system spans almost the entire body and is a complex system of “waystations” for processing toxins. It goes along major veins and arteries from the neck to the knees and along the arms to the elbow.
The lymph nodes are important “waystations” situated along this route. There are between 500 – 600 of them, with clusters occurring in the abdomen, the groin, the underarms, and the neck.
A complex arrangement of organs and tissues work together to move lymph fluid along the route. Lymph is a milky-white fluid that moves toxins as well as immune system substances along until the lymph system eventually merges with the bloodstream.
As a side note, did you know that some common organs such as the tonsils, the adenoids, the appendix, Peyer’s Patches in the intestines, and the thymus gland are all part of the lymph system? The thymus is considered the main organ of the system.
Even though the lymphatic’s primary job is to move toxins from their point of origin to the liver, it is part of the immune system as well. Lymph is vital for defending against viruses, bacteria, and other pathogens. Close to 20 liters of lymph fluid is pumped through the system each day, transporting white blood cells and vital immune system cells throughout the body.

Why Does Lymphedema Occur?
Lymphedema happens when too much plasma, or protein-rich fluid, builds up in a particular area of the body. It is of most concern to women who have had one or several lymph nodes removed as part of conventional Breast Cancer surgery as well as those who have had radiation therapy for Breast Cancer. Also at risk for this potentially-debilitating condition are people with diabetes and pregnant women, as well as anyone who leads a generally sedentary lifestyle.

*-- The Truth About Sugar Substitutes --*

A sugar substitute is an artificial or natural substance that sweetens food and drink in place of sugar. Typically, sugar substitutes are hundreds of times sweeter than sugar and have few to no calories. They're a common sweetening choice for "diet" products such as sodas, sauces, baked goods, or sugar-free candies or gum.

Made from the amino acids aspartic acid and phenylalanine, it's a popular artificial sugar. It has calories, but because it's 200 times sweeter than sugar, you use less. It's in soda, gum, yogurt, desserts, and medicines. Equal and NutraSweet are common brands. But also be cautious because there have also been claims that it can cause or increase the risk of: headaches, dizziness, depression, Alzheimer's disease, and cancer.

Stevia is a natural sugar substitute which means it has been made from plants. It gets it sweet taste from from the extract of the Stevia Rebaudiana leaves. It can often be found in stores in liquid form. Stevia rarely causes side effects. However, more research needs to be done to provide conclusive evidence on weight management, diabetes and other health issues.

600 times sweeter than sugar, Sucralose isn't absorbed by your body. It doesn't give you any calories and you know it as the brand name Splenda. Often sucralose is in sodas, juices, and sauces.

The FDA has approved these artificial and natural sugar substitutes. The National Cancer Institute says there's no proof they cause cancer. But there are some risks, especially if you overdo it. They may change your gut bacteria and cause digestive problems. They're also linked to diseases such as type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure.

It's called the Green Passport. We're not told to wear it, but what they have done is they have, essentially, overnight created a second-class citizenry--a true medical apartheid that is disallowing healthy, law-abiding, tax-paying citizens from entering their place of culture if they do not participate in this experiment. It's that simple We literally have been told that there are people who've been kicked out of their choirs, out of their pools, out of their gyms. I don't know who's going to hear the message we're saying. I don't know what is going to become of it. I know that there is no other option than to give every fiber of energy and strength into battling this, because there is no other option.

So what is Organic?

Organic is a labeling term that indicates that the food or other agricultural product has been produced through approved methods.

These methods integrate cultural, biological, and mechanical practices that foster cycling of resources, promote ecological balance, and conserve biodiversity. Synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, irradiation, and genetic engineering may not be used.

The USDA Organic Certification indicates these foods are:
  • Not using prohibited substances (most synthetic fertilizers and pesticides) for three years prior to harvest
  • Not using genetically modified organisms (GMOs)
  • Raising animals in living conditions accommodating their natural behaviors (like grazing on pasture), feeding them 100% organic food, and not administering antibiotics or hormones
  • Omitting artificial preservatives, colors, or flavors from multi-ingredient, processed foods with some exceptions, like baking soda in baked goods
Organic agricultural production still uses pesticides and herbicides that are approved by the USDA. Just because something is labeled "organic" does not mean that no pesticides or herbicides were used. They are just organic approved and meant to be less toxic and less damaging.

For a product to carry the USDA organic label, a third party must verify at least 95% of the ingredients as organic. The phrase "made with organic ingredients" means at least 70% of the ingredients used counted as organic.

Organic food really relates to production, NOT nutrition.

While I would much rather have organic products than non-organic it is important to not just assume that organic means nutritious. Choosing clean AND nutritious foods is very important.

Eating organic can be a little more expensive so here is a guide to help pick the most important foods to choose organic.

The Dirty Dozen™ is a trademark term used to define the twelve crops that farmers typically use the most pesticides on, versus, the Clean 15™ which is also a trademark term to describe the fifteen fruit and vegetable that have the lowest amount of pesticide residue.

This is not an exhaustive explanation of organic food but really just a starting point to help you understand your food better. Remember to keep digging and look for the best fuel to help you live a healthier life.

What to Do in a Cardiac Emergency While Traveling

As coronavirus restrictions slowly give way to a return to normalcy, the pent-up demand to visit locales near and far will become a reality for travelers.

Whether you’re taking a short car trip or venturing halfway across the world, there are certain aspects about travel that can prove challenging to your heart. But with some careful planning ahead of time, you can get the most out of travel, while also safeguarding your cardiac health.

Cardiovascular problems are the number one cause of death among travelers, accounting for nearly 50% of those who die while overseas, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Lack of sleep, dehydration, and stress during travel can activate an irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia).

Ask your cardiologist if you need to adjust your medications while you’re on the road. Also ask for a copy of your latest electrocardiogram (ECG) to take with you, so if you do experience a problem, the hospital’s emergency room doctors will know what your heartbeat normally looks like.

If you have coronary artery disease or have had bypass surgery or a stenting, make sure you take your blood thinners and aspirin along with you. And be sure to take along your nitroglycerin.

Before leaving, check your health insurance policy so you’ll know what’s covered and what isn’t. If you’re traveling abroad, consider supplementary medical insurance which can reimburse for unexpected medical costs, help you identify local medical facilities, and in cases of extreme emergency, arrange for your medical evacuation, if necessary.

First and foremost, make sure to take enough of your medication with you, and take them at the usual times. Make sure you take a list of your medications, and that you have your cardiologist’s phone number. For extended trips, consider taking a copy of your medical records along.

If you’re going to an undeveloped country, consider seeing a physician who specializes in travel medicine to make sure you get any vaccines you need.

Did you hear about Mushrooms and Vitamn D.
All you need to do is place them before eating, i like them raw or cooked, gills side up in the sun for 10 or so minutes. They say they go into overdrive producing Vitamin D when you do that.

I Love mushrooms too, Raw or cooked, I'll have to try turning them over in the sun for 10, thank you

It's gettin close to mushroom season here for morel mushrooms. We go out in the winter and get turkey tail mushrooms here, they grow on trees and with the leaves off they really show up, very good medicinal mushroom not much on taste. We do get a lot of different sprinf and fall wild mushrooms here, very good for you immune system.
