Quick question:

How long can you hold your breath?

Okay... I know that might be an odd question but your breathing patterns reveal a lot about your health...

In fact, dysfunctional breathing is a major cause of low energy, sleep issues and chronic anxiety.

Now if you’re not sure how well you breathe here’s a quick (60 second) test you can do right now…

Here’s how to do it:

Take a normal breath in through your nose and allow a normal breath out through your nose.

  1. Pinch your nostrils shut and hold your breath.

  2. Count the number of seconds until you feel the FIRST definite desire to breathe, or the first stresses of your body urging you to breathe. (Don’t push your body to your absolute breath-hold LIMIT – just until the first desire to breathe).

  3. Release and resume normal breathing. Your breathing should be normal and calm. (If you’re breathing hard, you held too long).
How many seconds did you get?

A healthy and energetic person should have no problem holding it for 40 seconds…

But if you got less than 25 seconds there’s a good chance your body is suffering from low energy and vitality.

When our son Ryder was first diagnosed with stage four cancer Jimi, Teddy and I knew we needed to get a whole lot done

on little to no sleep…

So we drank gallons and gallons of coffee. ;)

One of the things we knew we needed to do, was a ton of research into all things health and healing, and in that research…

We found a lot healthier and more effective ways of having energy. :)

What we’ve found over and over again, is energy is CRUCIAL to healing.

Lack of cellular energy is what leads to cancer cell formation on the one hand…

And on the other hand, the more energy you have, the more healing stuff you feel like doing… and actually do!

Fast forward six years to when our son Rocky went through high grade eczema, and looked like a burn victim head to toe

even though it really stung to be dealing with yet another major chronic condition in a one year old son…

we felt much more “on our game” to deal with it, on top of everything else we had going in life, than in our first go round. ;)

(with little to no coffee I might add) ;)

Processed Carbs Trigger Obesity

In 1826, the French epicure Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin wrote, "Tell me what you eat, and I'll tell you what you are."

A couple decades later, a German philosopher wrote, "Man is what he eats."

And in the U.S. in the 1940s, nutritionist Victor Lindlahr published "You Are What You Eat: How to Win and Keep Health With Diet."

Special: The Death of Black Coffee

Now, researchers from Harvard have published a piece titled "The Carbohydrate-Insulin Model: A Physiological Perspective on the Obesity Pandemic," in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. It suggests that overeating isn't the main cause of obesity. Instead, it's caused by what you eat.

They say eating foods with a high glycemic load — such as processed, rapidly digested carbohydrates — triggers hormonal responses that profoundly change your metabolism, and lead to excessive fat storage.

That excess fat storage leaves fewer calories circulating. And that deprives you of fuel and saps your energy, amping up hunger and leading to weight gain.

The bottom line: It's not just about overeating. What you eat has a huge impact on whether you have obesity or not.

If you've been struggling with weight control, you might want to ditch calorie counting and start counting your servings of vegetables and fruits (aim for seven daily).

At the same time, banish highly processed foods (snacks, baked goods, sweets, white bread, and any pasta that's not 100% whole grain).

If you are what you eat, wouldn't you rather be a beautiful ripe tomato, a stalk of asparagus, or a mysterious, layered artichoke than a flat, beige, mushy pancake?

What Is Carrot Seed Oil and What Are the Benefits?



Carrot seed oil is an essential oil that comes from the seeds of the wild carrot plant, or Daucus carota. This European plant is also known as Queen Anne’s lace, though it’s more common than the royal name sounds. Wild carrots are the ancestors of the bright orange, crunchy carrots you buy at the supermarket.

Carrot seed oil is not the same as carrot root extract or carrot oil, so don’t let those other products confuse you. They come from crushing carrot roots in edible oil.

You should never eat carrot seed oil or use it in cooking. Essential oils are powerful, so they’re only for external use.

How Do You Use Carrot Seed Oil?


For the Skin



You can use carrot seed essential oil to help cleanse and protect your skin. With any essential oil, you always need to use a carrier oil to avoid irritating the skin. Coconut oil, olive oil, jojoba oil, argan oil and grape seed oil work well. You can also use a butter or moisturizing cream, such as almond butter or shea butter.

Mix 6–12 drops of carrot seed oil with 1 ounce (6 teaspoons) of carrier oil. Apply the mixture to your skin and massage gently until it’s absorbed. Carrot seed oil can be wonderful for a relaxing foot massage all around your toes.

For Aromatherapy


A popular way to use carrot seed essential oil is for aromatherapy. With a vaporizer or diffuser in the bedroom, you can enjoy the relaxing country scent of Queen Anne’s lace. If you like creating your own scent combinations, carrot seed oil pairs well with spicy aromas such as cinnamon and cedar.

In the Shower


Sprinkle a few drops of the essential oil on your shower’s walls for a heavenly shower. Add several drops of diluted carrot seed oil and carrier oil to your bath, close your eyes and enjoy some well-deserved peace and quiet.

What Are the Benefits of Carrot Seed Oil?


Carrot seed oil may have several benefits for your skin and emotional wellbeing:

  • Antifungal: This natural oil may help fight skin fungi, possibly helping with athlete’s foot and yeast infections.
  • Antibacterial: Carrot seed oil can fight several types of bacteria. This may help clear up skin infections. Some people claim it helped their eczema or psoriasis, but you have to take those claims with a grain of salt.
  • Anti-inflammatory: Fans of carrot seed oil say that it reduces swelling. It may sooth sore skin or calm headaches by blocking pain receptors.
  • Antioxidant: Carrot seed oil appears to have antioxidant nutrients. They may help rejuvenate skin cells, protect them from damage and reduce the signs of aging.
  • Anti-stress: The same aromatic compounds in carrot seed oil that help with pain may also reduce anxiety. When combined with fresh surroundings, this may help you unwind.
How many of these benefits are hype? It’s hard to say. There honestly hasn’t been much research done on carrot seed oil because scientists don’t view it as a priority. Our opinion is that you should listen to your body. If it gives you great results — keep using it!

Carrot seed oil isn't for everyone. Pregnant women should avoid it completely because it's known to increase the risk of miscarriage. If you prefer to try another relaxing, cleansing option for skin care or aromatherapy, choose tea tree oil or lavender oil.

Do you know how healthy your breathing is?

Odd question, I know...

But the truth is your breathing patterns reveal a lot about your health...

You might not realize it but bad breathing habits are a major cause of low energy, sleep issues and chronic anxiety.

I know... I was shocked when I first discovered this too...

Now if you’re not sure how well you breathe (I know I wasn't!) here’s a quick (60 second) test you can do right now…

Here’s how to do it:

Take a normal breath in through your nose and allow a normal breath out through your nose.

  1. Pinch your nostrils shut and hold your breath.

  2. Count the number of seconds until you feel the FIRST definite desire to breathe, or the first stresses of your body urging you to breathe. (Don’t push your body to your absolute breath-hold LIMIT – just until the first desire to breathe).

  3. Release and resume normal breathing. Your breathing should be normal and calm. (If you’re breathing hard, you held too long).
How many seconds did you get?

A healthy and energetic person should have no problem holding it for 40 seconds…

But if you got less than 25 seconds there’s a good chance your body is suffering from low energy and vitality.

The right foods can have powerful medicinal benefits, preventing and healing conditions, diseases, and even cancers.
For Breast Cancer Awareness month, I want to share with you a food that has been studied for its ability to prevent and reverse ER+ cancers like breast cancer: the humble broccoli sprout.
Benefits of broccoli sprouts for breast health

Tender, crispy, and chlorophyll-loaded broccoli sprouts are one of the most potent hormone-balancing foods Mother Earth has ever created. This is because they contain sulforaphane.
Sulforaphane is what makes broccoli sprouts special among all the sprouts. It’s a chemical compound found in all cruciferous vegetables, including adult broccoli, but its concentration can be 12 to 30 times higher in broccoli sprouts. No other sprouts contain a significant amount of sulforaphane.
Sulforaphane is a potent antioxidant that is essential to Phase II of Complete Estrogen Detoxification in the liver. (You might be familiar with sulforaphane as Step 2 from the Estrogen Reset Kit.) It’s role in detoxification can help improve Estrogen Dominance and reduce menopause symptoms.
Studies show it can also shrink breast cancer cells.
Medical research has shown that broccoli sprouts can prevent and even shrink estrogenic breast cancers in women because sulforaphane acts as a killer of cancer stem cells. (1)
Sulforaphane has long-lasting antioxidant effects, which help protect from oxidizing free radicals and offer anti-estrogenic cancer properties. Research shows when it comes to supplementing with sulforaphane:
  • Premenopausal breast cancer risk was decreased with higher broccoli consumption. (2)
  • Oral supplementation with sulforaphane reached the mammary glands of test subjects and increased activity of detoxification enzymes. (3)
  • There is potential for sulforaphane to protect from tumor resistance and relapse or recurrence of cancer. This nutrient has also been shown to be effective for thyroid cancer and is an anti-tumor agent. (4)
  • It raises OH-2 estrone, which is the protective form of estrogen.
A prevention method you can grow at home
Depending on one’s health condition, studies have shown that ¼ cup to 1 cup of broccoli sprouts can create profound health improvement and reduction in breast cancer tumors.
I personally eat broccoli sprouts 2-3 times per week, and prefer to grow my own sprouts.
Sprouting is easy and can be done at home for very little cost (it can actually save you money). Watching the sprouts grow is enjoyable and satisfying.

DESERVING​

We love so much over the course of our lives, if we’re lucky. We love our family, our friends, our partners. We love what we do, we love our favourite foods, we love our hobbies and passions. But when was the last time you turned that love inward? And I mean truly, turned it inwards and showed love to ALL that you find there, imperfections, supposed-shortcomings, and all?

Its breast cancer awareness month, and companies take that as an opportunity to plaster pink ribbons on pink labels and declare in bold pink lettering that we are warriors fighting a raging battle. While many connect with this image and gain a lot of strength from it, for me, it stopped resonating as I learned more and more about how cancer develops and why.

For me, the battle imagery made me angry at my body for the first few months. I felt betrayed by it, like it was my enemy and that I needed to fight against it. I was reminded this week of something that I heard along the way in that first year which changed that: seeing cancer as a check engine light instead of a battle. I started viewing cancer as my body’s last desperate attempt to get me to listen to it, to scream, “Hey! There is stuff going on in here that you need to address physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually!”, in a way that I could no longer ignore or shrug off. It was my body’s effort to get me to work with it to heal, not battle against what had been created.

As this perspective shifted into place for me, that anger at my body ebbed and gave way to a lot of love and gratitude. I had spent years ignoring myself, my body, and our needs, and now, I am just so grateful that I got the chance to discover and address those needs, to love myself radically and unconditionally.

Cancer brings with it an invitation to love ourselves more, to take a look at the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual areas of our lives and explore where we have perhaps been placing too much focus and attention outwards on other people and other things. There is nothing quite like a life-upending event to make us reevaluate where we are at and what we are doing, and yes, for those of us that need it, to give us the “excuse” we need to instead place that focus on ourselves.

But, we don’t need an excuse like cancer to love ourselves, to show ourselves the same level of support and acceptance and kindness that we show others. So, whether you have had cancer or not, I urge you to start today. Start loving yourself, wildly and uninhibitedly, because you are deserving of it.
