FDA has granted an exemption to the first GE cow produced with CRISPR technology. If we don’t convince FDA to reconsider this exemption, this new GE cow will not be regulated at all!
FDA’s irresponsible decision to exempt GE cows from regulation is the perfect example of how not to regulate GE animals responsibly, so I’ve started a petition urging FDA to commit to never exempting any GE animal from regulation again.

This new GE cow has had its genes altered to have short, slick coats that can more easily withstand hot weather. The meat industry hopes lighter coats will cause cows to gain weight more easily so that they can produce more beef at a faster pace.
But we don’t need to produce more beef at a faster pace. Quite the opposite. We need to produce food that doesn't pose harm to people, animals, and the environment. We need to reduce our dependence on meat — especially meat produced on huge factory farms — if we’re going to make our food system a more sustainable one. If we don’t get FDA to rescind its exemption, this new GE beef could be on the market in two years.

FDA only tested three of these cows before the agency granted them exemption from any regulation — and one of those cows died! We can’t let exempting GE animals from regulations become the new normal.

We at Center for Food Safety support FDA’s regulatory authority over GE cows, but that means we’d like the agency to actively regulate them instead of just exempting them from review. FDA must ensure that all GE animals do not trigger unexpected allergies in people that consume them or pose harm to the environment or to other animals. This can only be done through rigorous regulation.

LIFELONG​

I've been thinking about the "lifelong-ness" (that's a word, right?) of cancer recently. This is the month that I received my diagnosis, so it's always a time of greater reflection for me, but this year it's my 5-year cancerversary, so that effect is definitely amplified.

It feels like I've been waiting for this year forever, the "magic" threshold where your risk of recurrence reduces and your fear should, by proxy, reduce too. I don't know how I will feel after the 20th, but right now (and I suspect then too), it doesn't feel a whole lot different.

I think it's partly because I have taken an integrative route to my healing, and so I know many of the root causes that contributed to cancer developing in me in the first place and therefore know all of the things that could go haywire again should I let up too much. When you know how much work goes into healing, you also know how much work goes into staying healthy and that it's lifelong work.

But I think mostly, I still fear cancer returning because it's effing cancer. It's the big, bad C. It has this power over our collective psyche, imparting this sense that it is unstoppable, inevitable, as eternal as time. I've realized that in spite of me seeing the evidence in myself and so many others that healing is possible, even when someone is on the edge of that great abyss, I still often think of cancer as this immovable force.

So, for my 5-year cancerversary, I am going to make it my goal for year 6 to stop thinking about cancer in this way. It is not cancer that is lifelong, it is healing. I talk all the time about shifting our focus as much as we can from the negative to the positive, and I can't think of a more positive way to look at the lifelong-ness of cancer than not as a lifelong battle against it, but as a lifelong quest for optimal health as a result of our experience with it.

Cancer is just something that happened to us, but healthy and healed is something that we can become. Achievements in this realm, even small ones, are within our reach, lifelong.

Quick Tips!​

You may or may not know that inflammation is cancer’s best friend. It can cause cellular damages and changes, damage to your tissues and organs including the gut, and over time it can even cause DNA changes, all of which can contribute to the development and progression of cancer. Managing inflammation and creating as healthy a gut and microbiome as possible are two important factors in reducing your risk of many diseases, cancer included. The good news is that food is on our side! There are plenty of foods that promote a healthy gut and the reduction of inflammation. I've included a poster here that I made that lists the top 29 foods that help to heal the gut and reduce inflammation. Emphasize these foods in your diet to help heal inflammation and the gut!

Free Resources: Tips and Tools​


The Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona has created a completely free toolkit for anyone diagnosed with cancer, but it’s also going to be helpful for anyone wanting to learn more about living well with cancer and beyond cancer, to reduce their cancer risks, and to explore an integrative approach to cancer care and wellness. It includes supports for navigating and understanding cancer and conventional cancer care, but it also provides some great info on evidence-based recommendations for lifestyle approaches, emotional and spiritual wellness, complementary therapies, and environmental exposures as well as resources from reputable organizations with helpful patient education and tips.

It doesn’t provide information on the heavy-hitters of alternative therapies like mistletoe, vitamin C IVs, hyperthermia, ozone therapy and the like, but it does provide some basic background information on naturopathic, Traditional Chinese, and Ayurvedic medicines to help you decide if working with a practitioner from one of these disciplines is right for you. There are also resources to help you find a practitioner from these fields of medicine, and you can then speak with them about the heavy-duty options.

There is SO MUCH to learn when it comes to integrative cancer care, and it really takes a deep dive into your own body, what the factors were for you in cancer developing, and what needs to be address uniquely for you to reverse the environment that allowed cancer to grow. This toolkit may not provide the personalized info that so many of us need to really kick cancer's butt, but most of the things they talk about are things that everyone's health can benefit from. We all have to start somewhere, and this toolkit is a great place to start (especially if you are new to integrative cancer care) because it introduces you to a number of potentially helpful things all in one place.

Today is the 12-year anniversary of the Chris Beat Cancer Blog! And today’s interview is a follow-up with the first natural cancer survivor I interviewed, way back in 2011, Cortney Campbell.
Cortney was diagnosed with Stage II Nodular Lymphocyte Predominant Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in October 2008.
Cortney and her husband Kevin found information and inspiration from holistic survivors like Kris Carr (whom I’ve also interviewed) and they took a leap of faith together and focused on healing naturally with plant-based nutrition and natural therapies.
And she got well!
Cortney and Kevin have become dear friends over the years and today, nearly fourteen years after her diagnosis, Cortney is still cancer-free and a mom to five beautiful kids.

Getting Your Heart Pumping Keeps Brain Young

The best way to prevent Alzheimer’s disease is to dedicate yourself to beating heart disease. Regular physical exercise is the key to keeping your heart healthy, and now research is showing the same exercise will keep your brain young.

Did you know that your brain shrinks as you age? It’s true. Following young adulthood, the hippocampus — the part of the brain that is involved with memory and spatial navigation — begins to get smaller.

However, a study in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences looked at 120 sedentary adults and the impact of exercise on their brains. Half the group was instructed to walk briskly around a track for 40 minutes; the other half was put on a program that involved stretching and weights.

Stretching and weights had little impact on brain size, but the researchers found the volume in the hippocampus actually increased in the group of walkers.

Those subjects also improved on spatial memory tests, and blood tests showed an increase of brain-derived neurotrophic factor, a chemical involved with learning and memory.

These findings make sense because, when you walk, you build up your cardiovascular system, and this results in an increase in oxygenated blood to the heart, which, in turn, is pumped to the brain.

I’d say it was when my wife almost died after giving birth to our son…

that I began to take infections more seriously Jim. ;)

I’d certainly been aware of them as a potential cause for cancer, and made sure to include some anti-pathogenic products in our routine for Ryder…

but was pretty sure that wasn’t the cause in his case so we never dove too deep into it.

It’s one of those things you hear about, but until it happens to you, you don’t put a ton of thought into how serious it can be.

And I hear people all the time saying things like “I’m NEVER going to the hospital for ANYTHING now”

Tell me that to me when you or your loved one is in so much pain from head to toe that any movement is excruciating and you have no clue what’s going on!

Time and a place for everything. :)

I do wish the hospital would have consented to IV Vitamin C at least alongside antibiotics in that instance though!

I was just informed there’s SO much research on it for acute infections now that people are starting to sue hospitals for not including it.

And there’s certainly a whole slough of research on it in successfully treating severe cases of “the scary germ” on that note.

Then going through the high grade eczema with our son Rocky, turned out he had all sorts of stuff living in his gut that shouldn’t be there

AND on his skin, as we found out most cases of eczema, particularly more serious ones, have a topical staff infection component.

And then of course, there was the two times within the past year my whole family went down with a viral infection.

The first was likely “the scary germ” itself, and the second, when Rocky had to go to the hospital as his oxygen was super low…

(we declined all other treatments, just needed to get oxygen into him right away)

he tested negative for “the scary germ” but positive for para-influenza (one of the most nasty flu strains).

INTERESTINGLY on that round, I had been experimenting with chlorine dioxide in healing my gut and wanting to wipe out everything that shouldn’t be in there…

My observations were that I had a WHOLE LOT of die off… it was definitely killing a whole lot of stuff that shouldn’t be there and was the closest thing I’ve ever felt to a Herxheimer reaction…

but even more interestingly, I was the only one not to go down with the para-influenza.

Anyway, all that said, with what we’ve been through personally over the last couple years…

combined with what the whole world has been through over the last couple years…

combined with what appears to be on the horizon with the “monkey business” in the news (like that one?) ;)

I’ve been taking a particular interest in both chronic and acute infections lately.

I have a couple videos in mind we’re going to be making soon on what we’ve learned and incorporated into our routine so far…

But in the meantime, I’m definitely going to be watching a bunch of talks out of the upcoming Infections: Eastern Wisdom Meets Modern Protocols event.

The few they have up as a preview right now are all solid…

AND this Parasites: The Good and the Bad guide they put together for it is super thorough!

Goes through all the different categories of parasites (and viruses) and what to be aware of with and what to do about each.

Soooo yea long story short, aside from reversing the chronic conditions we’re going through specifically…

Again with what we’ve been through and where we’re headed, what I’m hyper focused on right now is boosting my family’s overall health as much as possible, and learning all I can about infections.

This infections event looks like a great resource on the infections part for sure!!

Hello Jimi,

The simple, powerful reality is when your body has more oxygen, your health improves.

Here is a simple 1-minute test, called the Body Oxygen Level Test, which provides incredible insight into your body’s energy levels as well as cues to your overall health.

STEP ONE: Take a normal breath in through your nose and allow a normal breath out through your nose.

STEP TWO: Pinch your nostrils shut and hold your breath.

STEP THREE: Count the number of seconds until you feel the strong desire to breathe. (Don’t push your body to your absolute breath hold limit - just when you have a strong desire to breathe.)

STEP FOUR: Release and resume normal breathing. Your breathing should be normal and calm. (If you’re breathing hard, you held your breath for too long).

Note how many seconds you comfortably held your breath.

A healthy, vital, energetic body is able to hold for at least 40 seconds.

If you got less than 25 seconds, it indicates poor breathing (low energy/vitality).
