Hey Jimi,
Eating healthy has its ups and downs, right?
Especially in today’s times when you’re trying to cook all your meals at home instead of going out. The inventory and food quality at grocery stores is unreliable—now more than ever.

Why not stock up when you have the chance?
Wouldn’t it be great to know how to take advantage of what’s in season in your garden, at the farmers’ market, or even at the grocery store today and have it be available during the winter months?

There are so many exciting ways to preserve and store fresh food so that you can enjoy healthy meals whenever you like. It takes the same amount of time as cooking your meals for the week, but instead, you have healthy meals for MONTHS!

I’m talking about drying, dehydrating, canning, fermenting, freezing, and more.

There’s a reason people have been preserving and storing food since the start of human history. It’s convenient to have food around!

Understanding the Benefits and Risks of Vitamin K at Birth: Expert Insights and Recommendations

Evaluating the Efficacy of Oral Vitamin K versus Injections for Newborns and Addressing Common Concerns

Picture
The American Academy of Pediatrics has recommended vitamin K for the newborn since 1961. The theory is that newborns are born relatively deficient and that giving this shot of vitamin K would reduce bleeding, known as hemorrhagic disease of the newborn (HDN). It turns out that the shot does little for the early onset vitamin K deficiency bleeding (VKDB). A recent article confirmed that oral vitamin K appears to be effective in preventing classic VKDB, https://doi.org/10.1542/peds.2021-056036
Oral vitamin K has been used successfully in many parts of the world and has been shown to be effective.
Since vitamin K shots contain a black box warning that death is a possible side effect, it is understandable that many parents want to avoid that risk and prefer to skip the shot. Oral vitamin K appears to be very safe, and thus, it makes perfect sense to use it to prevent VKDB and HDN.
The challenge in the USA is that doctors have no clue what to use, how to use it, and where to get it. Indeed, there are very limited options if you want to give your newborn oral vitamin K. When I was in practice, before retiring in December 2022, I had most parents who wanted to give oral vitamin K use the following product:
Bio-K- Mulsion by Biotics, taking 4 drops each dose, at day 1, weekly for the first month, and once at 2 months age. If they could not get this in time and were at the hospital, many could get the hospital pharmacy to convert the injectable vitamin K into a dilution of drops that could be given orally. The danger of the injectable was from the rare times it was accidentally injected into a vein or artery.
You can take advantage of my Fullscript account and get a 25% discount here:
https://us.fullscript.com/welcome/drpaulapproved
While there, consider purchasing the oral vitamin D drops your baby needs. The optimal dose for infants is 1000 IU daily ongoing. It is advisable to take vitamin D with K2 as this helps usher the extra absorbed calcium to the bone where it belongs. Make sure you are giving just 1000 IU daily.
Yours in good health,

Taking Turmeric with Black Pepper May Damage the Liver

The bright yellow spice turmeric, which is often used in Indian cooking, contains a potent nutrient called curcumin. It belongs to a group of compounds known as curcuminoids and has potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which have been linked with better joint health, cognitive function, heart health, and more.

Yet, curcumin is tough for your body to absorb and use effectively. It has poor solubility in water and is rapidly metabolized and eliminated from the body before it can be absorbed into your bloodstream, where it can exert its beneficial effects. This is why some supplement manufacturers add piperine from black pepper to curcumin to enhance its absorption.

However, experts are becoming increasingly concerned that taking turmeric with piperine can cause liver damage. In a study published in The American Journal of Medicine, researchers looked at data from participants with turmeric-related liver injuries enrolled in the US Drug-Induced Liver Injury Network, analyzing all of the turmeric supplements that those with liver disease were taking.

What the researchers found is that piperine may raise turmeric to toxic levels in some people. Seven out of the 10 participants who experienced liver injury from taking turmeric had a gene called human leukocyte antigen (HLA), specifically HLA-B*35:01. Taking turmeric with other bioavailability enhancers – such as ginger – may be a safer way to get its benefits.

Triphala: An Antioxidant Powerhouse for Healthy Aging

Triphala is an ancient preparation that’s a staple in Ayurvedic medicine. It’s a combination of three fruits: amla, bibhitaki, and haritaki. Dried and ground into a powder, they work synergistically to give triphala more potency than any of them taken separately.

One of the biggest benefits of triphala is that it’s an antioxidant powerhouse. It contains numerous different antioxidants, including vitamin C, polyphenols, and flavonoids, that each have their own unique benefits.

When it comes to aging, the antioxidant power of the amla in triphala has shown the ability to protect against free radical damage. Free radicals are unstable molecules that can damage DNA, cells, and tissues when left unchecked. The type of damage they cause is linked to numerous age-related diseases (and chronic inflammation), which means that protecting your body from the effects of free radicals should be a top priority.

Antioxidants are able to offer this protection and reduce the risk of diseases like cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and neurodegenerative disorders. As a bonus, the powerful antioxidant known as vitamin C (found abundantly in triphala) is able to fight skin aging by stimulating collagen synthesis and protecting against photodamage. Yet, the benefits of Triphala don’t end there—they also help to combat inflammation, ease arthritis symptoms, and more.

This first piece about GMO pesticides demonstrates how corporations are willing to turn a blind eye to potentially massive health damage. As you can see below the story, we’ve been warning about this for a decade.
Scientists sound the alarm over outdoor gene editing pesticides

“...Sounding the alarm about this "Wild West" scenario is a new study by an international team of scientists. The study, based on computer predictive modeling, found that exposure to a CRISPR/Cas gene-editing pesticide could unintentionally alter the genes of a wide assortment of non-target organisms, with potentially serious or even fatal consequences. And leading the list of potential victims of unintended gene editing are humans.” (Read more here in this report originally shared by our friends at GM Watch.)

We have been warning about the potential for certain GMOs to reprogram our own genes. For example:
  1. Nine years ago, Jeffrey Smith interviewed Dr. Jack Heinemann, one of the authors of the article above. Then, they were discussing “Why scientists are worried about the GMO apple and potato.” (Watch the interview here.)
  2. Here's an article published in 2015 by IRT on the same topic: Why Scientists are Worried about the GMO Potato and Apple
  3. Watch this lively discussion entitled “Can new GMOs pesticides change how your DNA functions?” from November 2020, where Jeffrey interviews a former USDA scientist, Jonathan Lundgren, PhD, and Dan Perls from Friends of the Earth. Dr. Lundgren got pushed out of the government when he published about this topic. (Watch here.)

In Environmental news related to GMOs, a new study reveals how Glyphosate Reduces Ocean Carbon Sequestration and Damages Coral Reefs:
Large benthic foraminifera (LBF), a single-celled organism found on coral reefs, face adverse metabolic impacts after exposure to the weed killer glyphosate and insecticide imidacloprid, according to a study led by scientists from the University of Vienna in Austria…The Austrian study found that “even the lowest doses of the pesticides caused irreparable damage to the foraminifera and their symbionts.” (Dive into the full article originally shared by Sustainable Pulse here.)

USDA APHIS Seeks Public Comment on GMO Microorganisms
On July 2, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Health Inspection Service (APHIS) published a Request for Information (RFI) seeking public comment on the improvement of regulatory processes governing genetically engineered microorganisms — referred to as “modified microbes.”

This RFI presents an important opportunity for engagement by developers of modified microbes intended for agricultural or other uses.[1] Specifically, APHIS is soliciting comments “regarding pathways to commercialization, including needs, ideas, and concerns, regarding possible APHIS risk-based deregulation of modified microbes and other potential regulatory and non-regulatory pathways to commercialization.” Through this RFI, APHIS aims “to identify potential criteria and mechanisms for risk-based deregulation, develop a regulatory framework that could inform future rulemaking, and identify potential non-regulatory solutions.”

The lack of clarity regarding regulation of modified microbes, and the absence of a clear pathway for deregulation and commercialization as is available to genetically engineered plants, has been the subject of significant stakeholder outreach. APHIS is therefore soliciting public comments through this RFI on six questions: (Find out more here on The National Law Review.)

New GMO Alert: Synbio Chocolate

“...More recently, we’ve seen chocolate that features ingredients produced through synbio, also erroneously called precision fermentation. Below is an overview of some of these brands and their chocolate products.” (Read more here from The Non-GMO Project’s post from earlier this year.)

Peptides are made up of the same amino acids that make up proteins, but contain fewer molecules. Anything with more than 100 molecules of amino acids are typically called proteins, while peptides contain anywhere between two and 99 molecules.

(Oligopeptides contain 10-20 amino acid molecules, while polypeptides have more than 20.)

Peptides serve a pretty wide range of functions:

Regeneration of tissue -- Cu-GHK (also known as copper peptide) plays a role in the stimulation of collagen, which your body uses to repair damaged tissues. Without this peptide, your body wouldn’t be able to keep your skin healthy, fresh, and young. Other collagen peptides can also aid in the regeneration and repair of skin tissue. Plus, because they’re shorter chains of amino acids, they’re easier for your body to break down and put to use.

Fighting wrinkles – The peptide argireline is a synthetic peptide that can have a similar anti-wrinkle effect to I am a spammer ban me. Due to its ability to provide a non-invasive, topical solution for wrinkle reduction, argireline is a popular ingredient in anti-aging cosmetics. Palmitoyl pentapeptide-4 is a peptide that can stimulate the production of more collagen and clear up wrinkles along with dark spots, age spots, and circles around your eyes.

Improve mitochondria – The peptides MOTSc and humanin are derived from the mitochondria in your cells, and can improve both biogenesis and mitochondrial function. Given that both tend to decrease as you age, these two peptides can be truly powerful for boosting your longevity.

Enhance cardiovascular and neurological function – The peptide BPC-157 has been proven to have positive effects on the gut-brain and brain-gut axis operation, decreasing neurological conditions and lowering your risk of cardiovascular issues. It also helped reduce inflammation, balance neurochemicals, and accelerate nerve recovery, all of which contribute to a longer, healthier life.

Improve cellular function – The AEDG peptide has been proven to “epigenetically regulate neuronal differentiation gene expression and protein synthesis in human stem cells.” By so doing, it may extend the lifespan of your cells and slow (or even reverse) biological aging.

Protect your brain – Certain nootropic peptides can have a positive protective effect on your brain, staving off the cognitive and neurological decline common with age. In one study of seven different peptides, two were proven to protect against neurotoxicity in the brain (including from beta-amyloid plaque), and four were discovered to reduce cellular death following a traumatic brain injury. These peptides can also increase BDNF and heat shock proteins, which can enhance brain function and reduce your risk of both chronic and acute neurological degeneration.

All pretty amazing longevity-boosting benefits, right?

According to the experts, “Peptide therapy is generally safe when you take it under the direction of your doctor.”

The risk of side effects is minimal, though some are known to exist, including allergic reactions, stomach upset, skin sensitivity and rashes (for applied peptides), dizziness, headaches, fatigue, and palpitations.

For the most part, the average healthy person shouldn’t experience negative effects from peptides, but it’s still worth consulting with your doctor to find out if you should be taking them, and how to do so safely.

Because as the research continues to prove year after year, peptides have the potential to offer your body a lot of benefits to stave off degeneration and slow biological aging at the cellular level.
Yours in good health,

Beware of These Nursing Home Red Flags

We’ve all heard horror stories about what can happen in nursing homes, from substandard care to outright abuse of the elderly. That’s why it is so important to do your homework when looking for the right facility for yourself or a loved one. It is critical to visit a nursing home to see, hear and observe the staff and residents firsthand.

According to U.S. News, one way to winnow the search is by using websites like Care Compare provided by Medicare. This handy tool gives information and ratings for nursing homes, rehabilitation centers and other facilities in your area. U.S. News also has a comprehensive list of 15,000 nursing homes to help you find the best care for your loved one. Check online reviews to see how others have rated the facility.

Special: These 3 Things Will Push You Into a Nursing Home

But a personal visit may be one of the best ways to evaluate if a nursing home is right for you. Pay attention to the following information about the facilities and watch out for these red flags:

  • Infections and death. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 2018 estimated that there were 1.3 million nursing home residents and up to 3 million infections every year in senior care facilities. Common infections include COVID-19, MRSA, pneumonia, urinary tract infections, norovirus, clostridium difficile (C. diff), and scabies. Dr. Gary Small, behavioral health physician-in-chief at Hackensack Meridian Health in New Jersey, suggests watching the staff in action when touring a nursing facility. “Do they wash their hands before and after handling a patient?” he asks. “If they don’t, this poses an infection risk, which is a big concern for older adults with weakened immune system.”
  • Staff turnover. One of the signs to look for is how often there is a change of certified nursing aides in the facility. According to research, high nursing staff turnover is an important indicator of quality care, with rates often reaching 100% annually, meaning the nursing aide that’s attending to your loved one may be gone within a year. Check for nurse-to-patient ratios and whether nursing care is available at night. Consistent care is important to monitor decline in health.
  • Social enrichment. When you visit a facility, learn about the activities that are offered to residents to encourage healthy socialization. According to the CDC, people who lack socialization are 50% more likely to develop dementia. Small adds that it is also important to have outdoor activities that improve the quality of life.
  • Check for complaints to state agencies. State agencies that license and certify nursing homes inspect each facility annually. Ask to see a copy of that report to see if the home complies with federal or state standards. Be vigilant in your personal inspection to note if the residents appear to be well-cared for and don’t have any bruises or other signs of potential abuse. You can also ask to see copies of any complaint investigations.
  • Bring along a copy of the Medicare Nursing Home Checklist. According to the National Institute on Aging filling out the checklist as you visit each facility will help clarify your choices. In addition, make sure that the facility has accessibility for people with disabilities, is clean and fresh-smelling, and appears to foster warm interaction between staff and residents. “Observe how the staff interact with each other and the residents,” says Small. “Talk with residents and staff members to get a sense of how they like or dislike the place.”
  • Visit at mealtime. If there is a dining room, is it clean and attractive? Is the food appetizing and will the kitchen staff handle special meal requests? Don’t be afraid to request a taste test yourself!
  • Find out about costs and contracts. Get detailed information about costs and which services are covered. Will Medicare, Medicaid or long-term insurance pay for any of these costs? See if the facility offers a financial assistance office to help you navigate the expenses.
“Nursing homes and other long-term care facilities vary tremendously in quality, so it is often a daunting task to help a loved one find a place that suits their needs,” Small tells Newsmax. “If you are helping someone identify the best place for them, consider how you yourself would feel living in a particular setting. When inspecting residences, take your time to observe the setting.”

A case study, well documented, of how hospital staff murdered a 19 year old patient who was doing well, in cold blood

I heard the story of Grace's hospital murder in a podcast just after it happened. I knew then that they were not only getting rid of the elderly under the myth of Covid, but also of people with any disability or mental challenge. I have my fingers crossed that this will be found to be more than error, more than medical malpractice, but exactly what it is. Murder.

New Jersey government readies mandatory genomic sequencing of all newborn baby blood:

This has been in the works for at least three years, but I suspect already that the neonatal heel prick, whereby they take a blood sample, practiced for decades now and purported to be for medical screening of rare health conditions, has, in reality, been used to get a DNA sample into a data base.
