DIY Techniques to Quickly Boost Energy, Focus, Creativity & Productivity
I regularly provide you the proven most effective steps and tools to look and feel your best, avoid and overcome disease, and live long.
These are the most powerful steps for living your most vibrant life over the long haul.
However, sometimes -- perhaps many times -- you want more of an instant "pick me up" for your energy, concentration, creativity and productivity (that won't harm you, such as too much caffeine).
Here in brief are some of the most effective techniques on that front:
Pomodoro Technique
This simple and effective technique is especially helpful if you are working at a desk, such as in front of your computer, and involves working for 25-minute intervals followed by a 5 minute break. After four such cycles, take longer breaks of 15 to 30 minutes. To further improve your concentration and energy, incorporate other techniques on those breaks such as those below.
Head Massage
Apply firm pressure (without hurting yourself) and either in a kneading motion or circular motion, rub your head with your fingers and thumbs for one to five minutes. Pay extra attention to your temples, behind your eyes, the top of your head, and the base where your head meets your neck. Try massaging at different speeds with your fingers to see which you prefer. This massage stimulates nerve endings and quickly boosts blood circulation to your head, resulting in stress release and greater energy and focus.
Door Frame Stretching
Really any stretching can be an effective way to quickly boost energy and focus. However, if you choose just one stretch, consider this one, as it stretches multiple muscles and "opens up" your chest for greater blood flow and more. Simply stand in a doorway and, holding on to both sides of the doorway securely, lean gently forward to feel the stretch in your chest and arms (if you are tall enough you can also hold on to the top of the doorway).
Rub Your Feet Over a Golfball
This feels great, of course, if you have sore feet. Even if you do not, though, you have many nerves in your feet that impact the rest of your body. Rubbing each foot atop a golf ball for a few minutes can work fast wonders to both relax and reinvigorate your body and brain.
Listen to the Right Music
Music works on many levels for us, including quickly impacting our physical health. And it may be no surprise that upbeat music is a great way to boost your energy and creativity, while downbeat or relaxing music is a great to calm down. Make a playlist of your favorite tunes for these situations and have it ready to go when you need it!
Take a Quick Walk Outside
A brisk fifteen minute walk is a great way to recenter yourself, elevate your energy levels, and boost creativity and focus. Even better if it is outside in the fresh air. Better still if you are able to walk in natural settings, such as near bodies of water and among trees!
Energy Breathwork
Breathwork techniques are another easy and powerful way to quickly ease stress, boost energy and focus, and increase your creativity and productivity levels, too. One of the simplest is the 4-7-8 method. Breathe in from the gut for 4 seconds, hold the breath for 7 seconds, exhale slowly for 8 seconds.
Cold Snap
Cold therapy is a fast and potent way to rapidly melt away stress and boost your energy and focus. Simply immersing your hands and splashing very cold water on your face is shown to be beneficial. Spending a few minutes outdoors if it is cold can be helpful. And as you may have heard, very cold showers and ice baths can be exceptional. If you want to try a very cold shower, one method is to start with warm water and then gradually use the faucet to keep taking the temperature down to pure cold. If you are new to this, try to stay exposed to the cold for at least 30 seconds. More experienced cold shower-ers go for 5 to 10 minutes in the cold, which is something you can build up to if this method appeals to you! (NOTE, do talk to your doctor first if you health conditions such as heart disease.)
Power Nap
Research shows that short naps, such as 15 to 20 minutes, are good for you -- likely healthier than long naps, in fact. They "recharge your batteries" without leaving you feel groggy.
Citrus and Mint
The aromas of citrus (lemon, grapefruit, oranges, etc.) and mint (peppermint, spearmint, etc) are excellent for boosting energy and focus. Consider using citrus and mint oils in your diffuser, enjoying citrus and mint teas, or do both in combo for a powerful pick-me-up!
Laughter!
Though the saying "Laughter is the best medicine" is at least thousands of years old, laughter is still vastly underutilized. However, science shows it really is an incredible immediate and long-term "therapy" that impacts your body physically, emotionally, and mentally and is exceptional for boosting your energy, focus, creativity, and productivity. Be conscious of what makes you laugh and have it "ready to go" when you need the medicine, such as your favorite comedians or funny animal videos, favorite TV sitcoms or phoning your funniest friends!
The STACKED Approach
The techniques above can be even more effective when you do two or more in stacks, which means together or following one another.
Perhaps take a 15 minute walk out in nature while listening to your favorite comedian or some upbeat music you love. Follow that with a 1 minute doorway stretch, followed by massaging your head, while your essential oils diffuser is sending your nose and brain some uplifting peppermint scents.
Superb for fast energy, focus, creativity, and productivity!

Here are a few dad jokes that make my little kids laugh and are worth sharing with YOU:
When does winter begin?
When autumn leaves.
And...
Why did the angry snowman disappear?
He had a meltdown.

What do you call little snowmen?
Chill-dren.
