MILLIONS AGAINST MONSANTO

New Research: Glyphosate Significantly Harms Infants’ Health​

“Glyphosate, a synthetic herbicide best known as the active ingredient in Roundup®, has significantly harmed the health of babies in rural U.S. communities over the last two decades—especially those already at risk of poor birth outcomes, new research shows.

The study indicates exposure to glyphosate, at the mean level of 2012 intensity:

* Reduced average birth weight by 29.8 grams (about .07 pounds)

* Shortened pregnancy by 1.49 days

* Increased the chances of low birth weight by 0.65%, very low birth weight by 0.20%, and preterm birth by 2.14%

‘Together, these results indicate that even at the mean level of intensity in the United States, glyphosate exposure significantly deteriorates infant health,’ say co-authors Emmett Reynier and Edward Rubin, whose work appears January 21 in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS). “Our findings, combined with other recent work, challenge the prevailing regulatory position that GM crops and their associated agricultural practices are safe—and even beneficial—for health.”

Glyphosate was found in 99 percent of pregnant Midwestern women. Higher maternal glyphosate levels in the first trimester were associated with lower birth weights and higher NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) admissions.

The good news is that glyphosate isn’t a forever chemical and it can be removed from the body.

Glyphosate drops 70 percent after six days on an organic diet.

  • Choose Safer Food Storage: Opt for glass or stainless steel containers instead of plastic to minimize contact with bisphenol A (BPA) and phthalates (Chang & Reece, 2020).
  • Buy Organic When Possible: Certain pesticides (e.g., organophosphates) have been linked to neurodevelopmental issues (Bouchard et al., 2011). Organic produce reduces your intake of these chemicals.
  • Use Natural Cleaning Solutions: Common household products often contain harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Simple alternatives like vinegar, baking soda, and lemon juice can be effective while cutting down on synthetic chemicals (Dodson et al., 2012).
5) Prioritize Quality Sleep

Consistent, restful sleep (7–8 hours) is linked to better immune system regulation and healthier hormone balance (Irwin, 2015).

During deeper stages of sleep, your body repairs DNA damage and resets the stress response—crucial for long-term health.

6) Engage in Regular Physical Activity

Dr. Crandall: Heart and Brain Health Are Linked

The connection between heart and brain health is more evident than ever, according to a new American Heart Association study. The very same risk factors that make heart disease the leading cause of death in the United States have unfortunately increased the risk for stroke, Alzheimer's, and dementia.

In particular, the study highlighted atrial fibrillation, an irregularity of the heartbeat, as the major risk for these cognitive impairment conditions.

After the age of 81, 1 in 10 people have this arrhythmia, according to world-renowned cardiologist Dr. Chauncey Crandall, director of preventive medicine at the Palm Beach Cardiovascular Clinic in Florida. He is also the editor of the monthly newsletter Heart Health Report.

"It really begins in the 60s, but it is a rhythm problem that causes changes. One main change is that the function and strength of the heart is reduced by 20%. He also stressed the additional problems of potential blood clots that can form inside the heart, break loose, and travel to the brain, causing both strokes and silent strokes that patients aren't aware of. Over time, these can slowly destroy parts of the brain, impacting memory and behavior.

I'm also sad to report that, on that same day, I drove down to LA to help Master Carl Totton transition. He's in hospice and these are his last days. I called in the other Abbotts to help bring love and light into the room and we helped pave the way for a peaceful transition. After several years of post-stroke recovery and complications, it's winding down.

Dark Chocolate Improves Vision: Study

A few bites of dark chocolate might offer a slight and temporary bump up in vision quality, new research suggests.

Heart-healthy compounds in chocolate called flavanols appeared to sharpen eyesight for a group of 30 healthy young adults. The observed change in vision was small, but significant.

However, the study authors stressed that it's too early for ophthalmologists to recommend chocolate as medicine for the eyes.

"The duration of these effects and their influence in real-world performance await further testing," said a team led by Dr. Jeff Rabin of the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas.

There’s been evidence in prior studies that the antioxidant flavanols in dark chocolate might help boost blood flow to the nervous system, boost heart function, and even help preserve the aging brain.

To find out, the researchers had 30 healthy adults averaging 26 years of age eat either a 1.5-ounce Trader Joe's 72% Cacao Dark Chocolate Bar or a similar-sized Trader Joe's Crispy Rice Milk Chocolate Bar. Labels were removed from each bar so participants didn't know what type of chocolate they were eating.

About two hours later, each participant underwent vision testing using standard letter-based eye charts.

The result? Compared to people who'd eaten the milk chocolate bar, those who'd snacked on the dark chocolate showed "small enhancements in visual acuity and large-letter contrast" on the vision test, the researchers reported.

Study results were published in JAMA Ophthalmology.
