Dr. Crandall: Heart Disease Often Overlooked in Women

According to the annual update just released from the American Heart Association (AHA), heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the U.S. for both men and women.

Cardiovascular disease, which includes heart disease and stroke, claims more lives than all forms of cancer and accidental deaths, combined.

Cardiovascular disease causes 1 in 3 deaths of women each year, yet only 44% of women realize that heart disease is their greatest health threat.

“The bottom line is women with heart disease are often misdiagnosed because they don’t present with the same symptoms as men. And classically, research was always done on men,” says Dr. Chauncey Crandall, world-renowned cardiologist and director of preventive medicine at the Palm Beach Cardiovascular Clinic in Florida.

Like men, women’s most common heart attack symptom is chest pain or discomfort; however, women are more likely to have other symptoms that are not typically associated with a heart attack, according to the AHA. These include:

  • Anxiety
  • Shortness of breath

  • Pain the shoulder, back or arm
  • Unusual tiredness and weakness
Women need to be persistent with their doctors to make sure they are listening to their concerns, Crandall tells Newsmax’s “Newsline.”

“Are you having shortness of breath when you walk? Or if you're taking the groceries in from the supermarket, are you having complaints of chest pain? Or are you having atypical pain? Shoulder pain, jaw pain? These are other symptoms that the doctor should ask for,” says Crandall. But women must be persistent because doctors are busy and not always listening, he adds.

“So, if you have a family history of heart disease, if you're a diabetic, if you're a smoker, you're at risk and you really need to push the doctor to dig deeper into your symptoms,” says Crandall, editor of the popular newsletter Dr. Crandall's Heart Health Report.

In addition, a new study published the Journal of the American College of Cardiology found that women who developed high blood pressure during pregnancy are at increased risk for early-onset cardiovascular disease, an average of seven years earlier than women who didn't have hypertension during pregnancy.

“So, if you have a history of an elevated blood pressure during pregnancy, you need to stay on top of it. You need to follow up with the doctor and reduce the risk for further development of heart disease,” urges Crandall.

The good news, according to Crandall, is that heart disease can be prevented in women.

“You can have a better diet, you can exercise, you can be at ideal body weight, you can stop smoking. There are all sorts of things that we can do to prevent it, to give victory for women against heart disease,” says Crandall.

Cadmium​

When I interviewed Dr. Joseph Pizzorno for the Eat4Earth event, he spoke about how cadmium tends to lodge in the kidneys with a half life there of 16 years.

While in the kidneys, cadmium inhibits the function of the enzyme that converts the form of vitamin D that we typically take in supplements and measure in blood, 25(OH) vitamin D, also known as calcidiol or calcifediol, into its most active form, 1,25(OH) vitamin D, also known as calcitriol.

Dr. Pizzorno said that cadmium's interference with vitamin D metabolism makes it a significant contributor to osteoporosis.

Research has found that even low levels of cadmium exposure almost doubles the risk of osteoporosis.

Dr. Pizzorno also identified the main food source of cadmium: soy, especially non-organic soy.

High-phosphate fertilizers used in conventional agriculture have a lot of cadmium, so conventional soils have a lot of cadmium.

And legumes, especially soy, absorb a lot of cadmium from soil.

Although organic soy is lower in cadmium, there is a sneaky way that cadmium from conventional soy gets into organic soy.

Organic farming standards allow for the use of fertilizers containing manure from conventionally-raised animals, which are generally eating a lot of conventional soy.

So the manure from those animals fed conventional soy is high in cadmium, and that high-cadmium manure gets used on organic farms.

Then organic soy crops absorb the cadmium that came from the high-cadmium, conventional, non-organic manure used on organic fields.

Cadmium's interference with vitamin D metabolism can affect many aspects of health because vitamin D is involved in so many functions of the body, not just the process of directing calcium into bone.

Getting cadmium out of the body is essential, not only to reduce the risk of osteoporosis, but for gut health, immune system function and balance, controlling inflammation and autoimmunity, sexual function, and more.

Cadmium also has an even more far-reaching influence worth mentioning ... it blocks the kidneys' ability to excrete other toxicants like other heavy metals.

And each of those other toxicants has its own range of bodily functions that it poisons. So cadmium is like a toxicity multiplier.

A good detox strategy is to remove cadmium early in the process to "unblock your detox" and facilitate the elimination of other toxicants.

And cadmium is just one detox blocker. There are many other types of detox blockers that keep people struggling with their health.

One of the reasons people have not yet resolved low energy, brain fog, gut health issues, hormone deficiencies and imbalances, low or imbalanced immune system function, or other health challenges is the fact that their body's detox processes are blocked in one or more ways.

Detox can get blocked by liver congestion caused by gut health issues, by deficiencies in nutrients needed for detox processes, by past trauma and its effects on the polyvagal system, by "interference fields" that block the flow of voltage through the meridians of the body, and more.

One of the ways I help people is by helping them unblock their detox.

And right now I can offer a few free sessions to people wanting to unblock their detox so that they can overcome whatever health challenge they are facing that probably involves blocked detox, whether it's fatigue, brain fog, gut health issues, osteoporosis, or something else I might be able to help with.

Patch Catches A-fib Early

The common but dangerous heart rhythm disorder known as atrial fibrillation (A-fib) can go undetected for years. Now, research suggests a high-tech, wearable patch might spot the condition early.

Use of the Zio XT wireless patch, made by iRhythm, produced an almost threefold improvement in the rate of A-fib diagnosis in those actively monitored. The patch monitors electrocardiogram (ECG) readings via the skin, looking for telltale signs of arrhythmia, which is an irregular heartbeat.

Special: More Than 50% of Older Americans Fail to Get Enough Magnesium

Spotting the irregular heartbeat is key because A-fib raises stroke risk. The study involved more than 5,200 people from across the United States, many of whom received and returned the small wearable patch by mail. Participants were all deemed to have risk factors that boosted their odds for A-fib.

About one-third of the participants wore the patch, which adheres to the skin, and were monitored continuously for up to two weeks.

The other two-thirds served as a comparison group. These patients received usual care — typically routine visits to their primary care physician. If they were diagnosed with A-fib, that information turned up in their medical claims records.

The result: After one year, A-fib was diagnosed in 109 people in the patch-monitored group (6.3%) versus 81 people in the unmonitored group (2.4%). That's a near tripling of the diagnosis rate, the study authors noted.

The study was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

It's a start, but not enough. He went into how new HHS Secty. Kennedy will redesign the VAERS system (Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting), which doctors hardly ever take the time to use.

He also ran down some bureaucracy cuts, 1800 fired from CDC (yay), and I forget how many from EPA.
