A Breakdown of Low-Carb Diets

Some of the most hotly debated diets these days are the myriad versions of the low-carb diet — a plan that first caught on in the 1960s and is still going strong, with several variations.

But all these diets have one principle in common: They limit a person’s intake of the carbohydrates that are found in grains, starchy vegetables, and fruit, while emphasizing foods that are high in protein and fat.

Special: It’s Not Keto, Your Liver is Causing Obesity

Here’s a breakdown of four of the most popular low-carb diets and how they affect your body:

Ketogenic (or Keto) Diet. A high-fat, low-carbohydrate ketogenic diet induces the body to switch from using glucose for energy to breaking down stored fat into an alternative form of energy called ketones. The goal is to reduce the intake of carbs as low as possible — 50 grams at most, but 20 grams to 30 grams is even better. Although it gained popularity as a weight loss diet, the ketogenic diet was originally promulgated as a treatment for epilepsy, and may be helpful in other neurological disorders as well.

Paleolithic (or Paleo) Diet. Like the Keto diet, the Paleo diet is low-carb — but with a twist. People who go “Paleo” focus on unprocessed foods that were common during the Paleolithic era before the agricultural and industrial revolutions. This diet centers on meats, fish, seafood, eggs, vegetables, fruits, tubers, nuts, and seeds. Foods that are processed, or those with added sugar, are prohibited, as are grains, legumes, and dairy products.

Atkins Diet. Dr. Robert Atkins, a cardiologist, pioneered the method of going on a diet not all at once, but in phases. This diet starts with a two-week “induction” phase, which is the most restrictive, then moves through three more lenient ones, until dieters get to the “maintenance” phase, and are allowed to eat as many “healthy carbs” as their bodies can tolerate without gaining weight.

South Beach Diet. Like the Atkins Diet, the South Beach diet was invented by a cardiologist, Dr. Arthur Agatston. The two diets are also similar in their four-phase structure. But there are differences in their view of saturated fats. South Beach recommends minimizing saturated fats, like butter, whereas Atkins is more permissive. In addition, the South Beach Diet allows more carbs, so it’s sometimes considered a “modified” low-carb diet.

Ivermectin​

As mentioned above, Ivermectin works fast for fatigue. When I was exposed to a vaccinated family member, within a few days of taking ¼ teaspoon daily, my energy returned, and I no longer needed naps.

While waiting to start on a protocol of chlorine dioxide and silica water (which reduced my sleep needs to five hours a night, as discussed in Chapter 4 and 5), Ivermectin offers a quick boost. Follow the same dosing guidelines as above.

sometimes your own mind can be the hardest voice to deal with - especially when it starts replaying old, familiar doubts.

You hear the familiar script in your own voice; the same phrases, emotional tone and especially the same drop in energy.

It’s not new. And when things feel off - or the pressure rises, or the momentum dips - that voice finds its opening.

And you’re not imagining it: this time of year can stir it up even more.

Midyear brings a natural point of reflection. We look at the calendar, measure the distance between where we hoped to be and where we are now. And for many, that gap triggers old doubts.

And all of that - when combined with the stress, noise, and uncertainty in the world right now - can reopen the door to negative thinking.

So let me be clear: Just because these thoughts arise does not make them true.

Just because they’re familiar does not make them yours to carry forever.

Your mind is powerful - and it is also reprogrammable.

When you learn how to shift your internal language, you begin to experience life differently.

And that shift is available to you - right now.

Here are five practices I teach that consistently shift mental and emotional states, especially when the weight of negative self-talk becomes too loud to ignore:

  1. Be aware. You can’t change what you don’t see. Start by recognising the thoughts that run in the background - especially the ones that repeat. Notice the language you use with yourself. Are you being kind, or are you running old scripts of criticism, fear, or doubt? Awareness is the first step to changing that internal narrative.

  2. Change your environment. What you see, hear, and consume every day impacts how you think and feel. Tidy your space. Limit exposure to draining content. Surround yourself with messages and people that support your peace of mind.

  3. Move your body. Movement creates momentum! You don’t need a full workout - just a walk, a stretch, or a dance. Shifting your physical state can reset your mental one.

  4. Talk to someone. Whether it’s a friend, therapist, or trusted guide - speaking out loud helps break the isolation of negative thought patterns. You don’t need to figure it all out alone!

  5. Use hypnosis to reprogram the root. The most effective of all; hypnosis works at the subconscious level - where these negative scripts live. This is how real, lasting change happens: not by willpower alone, but by shifting the underlying belief system.
