Your Daily Motivation

Friday

June-25-2021

Learn to be okay with not being invited, or included. We all have been through situations where we have been ignored. Exclusion hurts.

But why does a random party or event have to define your self-worth? Stop taking things personally. Take back your ownership of the situation. Don't doubt yourself or let yourself suffer for being excluded.

Also, avoid putting so many expectations on other people. At the end of the day, all that matters is the story you tell yourself about the experiences you are having.

Hey Jimi,

When you look at cancer from an integrative, holistic perspective, it is what happens when the body is out of alignment with its natural healing state.

It’s also a natural response to a set of very specific circumstances.

And believe it or not, cancer is prolonging your life! If your mutating cells did not ferment, becoming cancerous, they would turn necrotic and you would rapidly die.

This perspective also offers a very different approach to addressing cancer than conventional medicine does with traditional chemo and radiation:

When you empower your mind and body to activate your incredible innate healing potential, full recovery from cancer is possible!

Are you ready to embody a cancer-free lifestyle?

>> Join me at the complimentary Becoming Cancer-Free Masterclass!

Since his grandfather passed away in 2013, Nathan Crane has interviewed hundreds of world leading experts and cancer survivors to produce conferences, publish magazines and make a 19x award-winning documentary film — all about cancer, how to prevent it and how to reverse it using effective evidence-based natural and integrative modalities.

With daily in-class exercises, assignments, downloadable worksheets and supporting interviews, this 9-module masterclass based in science takes everything Nathan has learned and provides a powerful 7-step process to help not only add more years to your life, but add more quality of life to those years.

Staying Fit with Adrenal Dysfunction and Chronic Fatigue – Is it Possible?

Hi Jimi-

If you have adrenal dysfunction and chronic fatigue, exercise is probably the last thing you feel like doing. I know that this is increasingly common in my patience, and today I want to dive into how we can stay fit without stressing the adrenals.

Your adrenal glands are responsible for keeping the well-being of your body in balance through hormones. These glands also produce the hormone cortisol, which is released during your fight-or-flight response. As you can imagine, cortisol is beneficial when you need to be alert and escape danger. However, when a patient has adrenal fatigue, exercise can trigger an adrenal response and cause fatigue issues to intensify. Check out today's podcast for all you need to know on how to exercise with adrenal dysfunction and chronic fatigue!

And if you’re like me, you’re probably ready to hear something to feel good about. Something to be hopeful about.

If that’s you, I’ve got something for you to watch.

I just had the pleasure of watching The Need To GROW, which was all the buzz at film festivals around the world — winning awards at almost half its screenings. It’s narrated and executive produced by the brilliant actress/activist Rosario Dawson, and it’s a food documentary unlike any you’ve seen before.

It’s a film that shows how we can help to heal the planet and ourselves at the same time!

Right now my friends at Food Revolution Network and Earth Conscious Life are teaming up to offer it to you for a special four-day FREE screening.

>> Do not miss this! You can watch this inspiring film right now — for no charge!

The film follows three underdog solution innovators as they tackle some of the biggest challenges of our times.

For anyone starting to lose hope about the health of our species and our planet, this is THE film you need to see!

You’ll notice familiar faces with experts like Dr. Vandana Shiva, Paul Stamets, and Jeffrey Smith, but this is really a story-driven journey that will leave you inspired. It might even make you cry (in a good way!).

How Everyday Activities Impact Our
Quality Of Life
We can't turn back time, but we definitely want to reduce our AGE.

If we look at the top row, most of the lifestyle stuff is super-easy at a glance. Is there the ability to be perfect? Nay, but we are after the law of averages.

After all, hopefully everyone makes it to a ripe old age, but the biggest question is will a person's quality of life be good?

Super important question to answer since these advanced glycation end products have direct effects on stuff like a leaky-brain, cellular health, and Alzheimer's. Yeesh

Head injuries can be the worst

We know that a person can do things prior to going on an athletic field like vagal stimulation to help with any gut-related issues related to TBI and the ensuing leaking that occurs. Most head injuries aren't planned, however.

After someone gets their head hit is where, unfortunately, most of the interventions have to take place.

Some of the worst stuff a person can do immediately after a head injury is:

- take anti-inflammatories
- bed rest
- eating as they normally do
- don't let them sleep and keep waking them up every few hours

Inflammation is a necessary process. If the removal of damaged cells doesn't happen, then new cells can't try and replace them so it really stunts healing and can have long-term implications.

Movement is necessary and anything over 2 days we can start to see long-term outcomes don't seem to go as well (response to rehab, etc). This only applies to people that are ambulatory and can walk, etc. Trying to return to normal, daily activities is a large goal.

If I were to get my head hit, I would quit eating for the next few days. The constantly spiked insulin and blood sugar would retard the healing process even further. Fasting is probably one of the best ways to naturally complete the inflammation/healing cycle as well as remove the damaged cells... and it is free!

Sleep is the only time the glymphatics are working to remove that waste from our sweet, sweet brains. If someone isn't at risk for a bleed (should be cleared at the ER) then sleep is the brain's way of entering clean-up mode so that should be allowed to happen.

There is always more to consider with a TBI since they are a very complex process, but the road to healing is possible.

If you're searching for the mindset or perhaps the willpower to curb your sugar intake, you may be convinced by the many benefits of eating sugar-free. Aside from the effect it has on your waistline, high sugar intake and obesity have been linked to diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Learn how sugar-free eating can benefit you both mentally and physically.

Lower Your Risk of Illness and Disease

Sugar robs nutrients from the body needed for its metabolism, so nutrient deficiencies such as osteoporosis, anemia, and immune deficiencies are all influenced by sugar consumption. The immune system itself is affected by sugar as it inhibits the release of growth hormones when it raises insulin levels. It also utilizes its white blood cells to clean up waste products left behind by sugar instead of having them fighting bacteria and disease, as is their main role. Sugar–and its ability to cause inflammation–is involved in conditions such as dermatitis, hyperactivity, indigestion, and depression. Sugar can play havoc with the digestive system, weakening it, and not allowing nutrients to be assimilated properly. Sugar ferments and interferes with digestive health, often causing gas and bloating.

Control Hunger and Cravings

In order to metabolize sugar, our body uses nutrients such as Vitamin B, chromium, and potassium. By repeatedly eating sugar, we deplete our nutrient stores. These nutrient stores are needed to help the body deal with inflammation. Therefore, sugar itself is a food that takes more from the body than it adds. While using up nutrients, it contributes none that are of use. Many foods containing sugar are void of other important macro and micronutrients and necessary components. Water, protein, and healthful fat are needed by the body for it to function properly. As a result, hunger develops. Your body seeks the nutrients it is lacking and often a binge ensues. In some cases, a sugar addiction develops. Eating a bite of sugar creates the desire for more. Balancing your eating helps to balance your blood sugar and eliminate cravings. This includes eating the right portions at the right times and eating whole, unrefined foods that will be efficiently converted into energy and not stored as fat.

Improve Your Energy and Feel Less Sluggish

Excess sugar slows you down. Once you eat it, it raises your blood sugar levels. Your body releases insulin and tryptophan is triggered. The tryptophan is converted into serotonin, leaving you ready for a nap. When you're eating whole, unrefined ingredients that are naturally sugar-free you are loading up on antioxidants, vitamins, fiber, water and proteins that fuel your brain and your body, helping you to bounce through your day, rather than lug yourself from one sugar fix to the next.

Enhance Mental Clarity

Research indicates that sugar can contribute to memory loss and an inability to concentrate. It has been shown to contribute to nervousness and negative thoughts. Research also suggests that inflammation created by sugar intake is the cause of disturbances in the brain's chemistry.

Improve Your Appearance

Along with robbing your body of minerals and vitamins that keep you looking and feeling great, sugar has the ability to rob you of your looks. Glycation is when sugar attaches to protein, resulting in Advanced Glycation Endproducts (AGEs). AGEs have been blamed for dull saggy skin and wrinkles. These sugar by-products build up and present themselves with age. The more sugar you eat, the more AGEs are created.

Manage and Maintain Your Weight

Cutting back on sugar can lead to weight loss or maintenance. In the last two decades, experts believed fat to be the enemy in our diets. We know now that the body needs fat, especially 'good' fats, such as omega-3 fatty acids which feed the brain, improve circulation and work against inflammation. Excess sugar, on the other hand, is converted to fat by the body. Refined sugar from carbohydrates that have been stripped of fiber will metabolize even faster. The more sugar you eat, the more fat will be stored on your body.

Improve Dental Health

Sugar is a major cause of dental disorders.7 It encourages the growth of bacteria that is responsible for causing cavities. Brushing helps to remove these bacteria, but tartar buildup often results and our oral health suffers. While sugar substitutes like Xylitol may contribute calories, they generally do not have an adverse effect on dental health.

Avoid Allergens

Additives such as corn derivatives are commonly found in processed, mass-produced pastries and baked goods. Confectioners sugar is packaged with cornstarch to prevent clumping. Those who suffer from a corn allergy may feel adverse reactions to the powdered sugar in commercial frostings and desserts.

Feel Better Now

Sugar consumption triggers chemical reactions that promote inflammation.8 Consuming less sugar equates to less inflammation in the body, which is at the root of most aches and pains. Inflammation also has negative effects on the immune system, feeds yeast and contributes to the growth of bacteria. Take in less sugar and you may quickly notice a difference in how you feel overall.

Learn Something New

It is amazing how delicious food can be without refined sugar. There are many sugar substitutes that can be used to provide a hint of sweetness without the calories or ill effects of sugar. Whether it's a homemade salad dressing, Drive-Thru coffee or a cookie from scratch, you will learn to be a better cook as well as a sugar-free eater by trying new-to-you sugar-free recipes.

To your better health without sugar,

The Team at Sugar Free Wellness

Top 7 Causes of Anxiety

  1. Blood sugar dysregulation- This is an epidemic in this country. We are seeing this especially this year! One question to ask yourself is...does food effect my energy levels? If your answer is a yes, then this is a factor not to ignore. Anxiety can be caused from issues with your blood sugar. This can be slightly more complex than just not eating sugar as well.
  2. Perceived stress- Stress is only negative and anxiety provoking IF we believe something to be stressful. This is why one person feels anxious and stressed by an event and another person does not. A couple things determine perceived stress. The first is novelty of the event. The second is the predictability of the event. The less predictable, the more stressful. Mindset has a huge impact on this cause.
  3. Trauma- Past trauma from emotional or physical abuse will have you stuck in a fight or flight response even through the shock has passed. Your body's stress system gets stuck permanently on resulting in anxiety. Uncovering emotions and beliefs from early childhood as well has releasing the stress response is necessary.
  4. Inflammation- Inflammation is primarily caused from gut problems but can also be caused from environmental factors. Inflammation can affect the brain, resulting in anxiety.
  5. Circadian Rhythm disruption- Humans are not intended to be exposed to unnatural light constantly. Now days, we are exposed to too much artificial light during the day and enough exposure light during the day. This disruption in circadian rhythm affects inflammation, hormones, sleep, and the gut...and can largely impact anxiety levels.
  6. Neurotransmitter imbalance- The neurotransmitters serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine, and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) are specifically believed to be linked to mood and anxiety disorders. So if you have an imbalance in these, you will likely have anxiety. Amino acids and gut health play a large role here.
  7. Hormonal imbalance- When progesterone levels are low, mood and behavior is compromised causing anxiety. Too much cortisol can cause anxiety. If thyroid levels are off, you can feel nervous, restless or irritable. Long story short, you need optimal hormones.

To your health,

Hey there Jimi,

A student from Africa recently wrote in with a great question about how to determine the energetics, affinities, and actions of a local herb, as well as its formulations and whether it can be a driver.

Whether you’re in Africa or another location with herbs that can’t easily be looked up in a book, there are a few easy things you can do to determine how a mystery medicinal plant can be used.

That doesn’t mean it’s easy, and you may have to continue to experiment. But it can be done.

In this week’s blog post, I show you a simple framework you can use when you’re approaching any medicinal plant that you don’t know well, wherever that plant is growing.

This is a problem herbalists have no matter where we live, so I think this framework will be valuable to your work.

Take care and be well,

Dear Jimi,
Cancer doesn’t have to be scary, but it is scary for good reason.
Nearly 10 million people die every year from it and its treatments, and conventional medicine’s main treatment, chemotherapy, only has an accumulative success rate of 2.5%.
What if we took the time to truly understand what cancer is, why we get it or how to heal it?
Maybe it would become less scary and confusing.

Dr. David Brownstein, M.D., writes:

For years, we have been fed a narrative that a high level of LDL cholesterol is responsible for causing heart disease, and therefore lowering LDL cholesterol to the lowest level possible is a good thing.

The current recommendations are to reduce that number to less than 70 mg/dL. For a report that appeared in the journal Neurology, researchers studied the association between LDL cholesterol and brain bleeding risk. More than 96,000 subjects who had never had a stroke, heart attack, or cancer were studied.

Special: Dr. Crandall Reveals the Secret to Normal Cholesterol

Averages of LDL cholesterol were correlated to the development of heart disease. Subjects with LDL cholesterol levels of 70 mg/dL to 99 mg/dL had a similar risk of heart disease as those with levels greater than 100 mg/dL.

Those with LDL levels less than 70 mg/dL had a significantly higher risk for developing heart disease than those with LDL levels of 70 mg/dL to 90 mg/dL.

For those with LDL levels of 50 mg/dL to 69 mg/dL, there was a 65% higher risk, and there was a 169% higher risk for those with LDL levels below 50 mg/dL.

I’ve been saying this for years: Using toxic medications to lower cholesterol levels as much as possible does not make sense. This study found a significantly higher risk of brain bleeds when LDL levels are lowered to the recommended ranges.

Statin drugs help about 1% of people who take them. Now we have new cholesterol-lowering medications that target LDL cholesterol receptors. They poison a crucial enzyme which results in a drastically lower LDL cholesterol.

But the side effects of doing this include serious, life-threatening infections, cancer, and now brain bleeds.

As I wrote in my book, “The Statin Disaster,” both statins and LDL-lowering medications are fraught with side effects and have poor efficacy.

If your cholesterol levels are too high, it is best to search for a reason why this is occurring and avoid taking toxic medications that simply fail most who take them.

Dr. David Brownstein, M.D., editor of the Natural Way to Health newsletter, is a board-certified family physician and one of the nation’s foremost practitioners of holistic medicine. In addition to his practice, Dr. Brownstein has lectured internationally to physicians and is the author of six very popular books.

5 Ways Industrial Agriculture Is Destroying The Planet

1. Industrial Agriculture Contaminates The Soil And Depletes It Of Nutrients

Did you know soil is considered a thin top layer of “skin” on the Earth? This “skin” is responsible for feeding billions of living things, and although soil may seem endlessly abundant in quantity, our farming practices have drastically depleted it of quality.

In fact, it’s estimated we lose approximately 36 billion tonnes of quality soil annually. [1]

The rate at which food is grown and harvested, both for humans and livestock, leaves soil depleted of nutrients, as its natural cycle of replenishing nutrients can’t keep up with industrial farming’s growth and harvest cycle.

The chemical fertilizers and synthetic pesticides used to grow and feed livestock, paired with antibiotic and growth hormone residue used to shorten the harvest time for livestock, all seep into the soil, contaminating it.

These industrial chemicals wreck the soil and the entire ecosystem it is a part of. Water, wildlife, and even humans are exposed to and negatively impacted by these chemicals.

2. Pesticide And Chemical Fertilizer Are Linked To Numerous Health Problems

As mentioned above, pesticides and chemical fertilizers not only degrade the health of our soil, but our own health as well.

We are exposed to them mainly through the food we eat, but also indirectly from the water we drink, the air we breathe, and even the soil we touch. This is a particular cause for concern in developing nations and areas near industrial farms because chemical exposure is higher.

Ingestion and exposure to industrial pesticides and chemical fertilizers can contribute to the toxic load on our body, triggering our bodies to store extra body fat. [2]

Consumption of, or indirect contact with, pesticides is directly associated with skin irritation, gastrointestinal issues, breathing problems, hormonal imbalances and fertility issues. [3]

Direct contact can be extremely hazardous and even fatal. This is why the people handling such chemicals require full body suits to protect themselves.

While industrial farming will claim these chemicals are within “safe limits,” the reality is that, while they may be within safe limits for a one-time exposure, the hazards from chemical fertilizers and pesticides are accumulative.

3. Industrial Farming Spreads Disease

Industrial farms are notorious for inhumane growing conditions for animals. Battery cages with less than a square foot of space and mass breeding from constant artificial insemination are just two of the practices that create cruel and unsanitary conditions.

It is the large amount of livestock raised within crowded, enclosed spaces that make it a breeding ground for disease.

Poor animal hygiene, improper sanitation, and the overuse of antibiotics create new strains of viruses and bacteria which spread easily in overcrowded spaces. Not only does industrial farming spread disease among animals, but can be spread to humans as well.

Improper handling or consumption of raw or undercooked meat is a common way people get infected with food borne illnesses.

Cross contamination, either from animal sewage run-off getting into water used on plants, or from handling animal products and produce without proper sanitization in between, is another way disease spreads.

The Center for Disease Control has cited that out of every 4 diseases, 3 come from animals. [4]

4. Industrial Farming Causes Deforestation

Agriculture is the number one culprit for deforestation worldwide. [5] Forest land is burned, destroyed and converted into thousands of acres of agricultural land for crops and livestock to be grown.

Mass produced products such as palm, soy, beef, pork, poultry, dairy, corn and wheat have cleared up over 1.3 million square kilometers of forest between 1990 -2016 alone, and the rate is only increasing.

Deforestation isn’t only devastating to the forest ecosystems. Humans also depend on forests to absorb carbon, regulate rainfall, mitigate climate change, and prevent soil erosion.

5. Industrial Farming Causes Air Pollution

As you may already know, industrial farming is a major contributor to air pollution. 14.5% of greenhouse gases, such as methane and carbon dioxide, come from livestock manure alone. [6]

The massive quantities of fertilizers used to grow crops also release greenhouse gases, and constant spraying of chemical pesticides contaminates surrounding air.

Livestock, fertilizers and pesticides all contribute to air pollution, but perhaps the most alarming way industrial agriculture causes climate change is via the amount of fossil fuels burned to power farming machinery.

Fossil fuel emissions not only create smog, but also acid rain, which creates a cycle of pollution from air, to soil, to water, which is damaging both for human and environmental health.

My Favorite Alternative Sweeteners

Last week we talked about many of the issues with added sugar and refined sugar. This week I want to talk about a few alternatives that may help you to crush that occasional sweet tooth.

Personally, I am not a big sweets fan. I generally would never really crave a candy bar or soda. But occasionally, I do like to have a little sweetness in my life.

Many times when people are looking for sugar alternatives some of the things that are brought up are aspartame, sucralose and other synthetic sweeteners. For years, these have been touted as better alternatives to sugar some would even say halither. Healthier or not they are still not good. If you are still using these, its may be time to find some better choices.

Artificial sweeteners such as aspartame, sucralose, ace-K, and saccharin have been the subject of heated controversy for years due to their potential for harm. While all of these sweeteners are supposedly "safe" and sugar-free, they now are being scrutinized more closely.

A host of issues from, headaches, poor digestion, and crohn's disease are all said to be side effects of their ingestion.
So what are some better choices?

Here are just a few alternatives that I like:

Stevia - Listed first, but not necessarily my favorite. As far as health it is a pretty decent alternative, however the taste is just not as good for me as some others. It is native to South America and has been used for hundreds of years in that region to support healthy blood sugar and prompt weight loss.

This zero calorie and zero carb alternative has been a "go to" for many seeking to sweeten our Haelan 951. Stevioside is the element in the leaves that makes it more than 200 times as sweet as sugar.

Monk Fruit - One of the most popular sugar substitutes for low-carb dieters is monk fruit. Monk fruit contains compounds that, when extracted, provide 300–400 times the sweetness of cane sugar, but monk fruit sugar contains no calories and has no effect on blood sugar.

Many popular brands do add in the sugar alcohols (Erythritol...not my favorite) to give it a more sugar like texture and consistency but, I have found that just a tiny amount of Monk Fruit powder works for me.

Allulose - Many new allulose reviews have started to show up recently, claiming that it mimics the taste and texture of regular sugar with only a fraction of the calories and carbs. And they are right! It is about as close to the real thing as you can get.

Here is the cool part, it has also been linked to multiple health benefits. Not only can it bump up both weight loss and fat loss, but it may also help stabilize blood sugar levels, support liver health and decrease inflammation throughout the body. Not bad.

Allulose, also known as D-psicose, is a simple sugar found naturally in several food sources, including figs, raisins, maple syrup and brown sugar.

This is becoming my new #1 favorite.

Here is a list of a few more healthier sugar alternatives.
Honorable mentions :)
  1. Raw honey
  2. Dates
  3. Coconut sugar
  4. Maple syrup
  5. Lucuma
  6. Blackstrap molasses
  7. Balsamic glaze
  8. Banana puree
  9. Brown rice syrup
  10. Real fruit jam
It is important to keep in mind that even a healthier alternative may not be best for your situation. Keep all this in moderation and as always...
