It’s safe to say that we all want to protect ourselves and our families from harmful toxins, Jimi.

Walking through any modern-day grocery store with a health-focused mindset can feel very overwhelming, and it can be difficult to know exactly what’s safe, and what to avoid.

Even with the best intentions, it’s easy to assume certain foods are healthy when they are actually full of toxins. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but foods that you consume each day could be causing some serious health effects.

First and foremost, it is so important to know where your food comes from.

Jimi, did you know many popular breakfast cereals, oats, and snack bars contain the active ingredient in the widely-used weed-killer, Roundup?

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) tested 45 oat-derived products and found that all but two had the herbicide, glyphosate, present.

Close to three out of four of the products evaluated exceeded what the EWG would classify as safe for children to consume (yikes)! Even worse, the EWG went on to explain that the federal limits are outdated and most of the products tested surpassed the more strict definition of safe levels.

Products with the highest glyphosate levels included granola, oats, and snack bars made by leading companies such as Quaker, Kellogg’s, and General Mills.

Unfortunately, several of these household name-brand foods are family favorites, and many are specifically marketed toward children.

It’s crucial to pay attention to where your food comes from. Seemingly harmless processed foods are often full of toxins that can leave you feeling chronically fatigued, sick, and just generally out of control of your health.

And so what you can do is you can start controlling the smaller things… But the opposite of that can occur in a way of manipulating somebody. It's part of an extension of the doctor's white coat as that level of authoritarianism, the idea that good marketing... there's certain colors that are used for medicines that are soothing and are less scary. You see a lot of pastels, for example. There's so much manipulation that is so primary, that on such basic levels that, when done correctly, you really can get somebody to suicide like a cult person by signing up for it because it's well marketed.”

This Nutrition Bite is about a healthy “down there”... Or “nether yey-ya” as we like to call it in our house. :D
Female reproductive systems are home to a complex ecosystem of microscopic bacteria known as the vaginal microbiome. The balance of this system is important, just as it is for your gut.
Knowing that, it won’t surprise you that what you eat can directly affect your vaginal health, too.
When this colony of bacteria is strong, it can protect you from urinary tract infections, sexually transmitted diseases and yeast infections.
When it's weak, the “bad” organisms and outside factors are more likely to be able to wreak havoc on your poor lady bits.
But something else of note…
What you eat can also affect your hormones. Which in turn affects your vagina. For example, when estrogen levels drop, your vulva and vaginal tissues tend to thin.
Which means you've got a greater chance of developing those inconvenient and uncomfortable vaginal infections.
So, what should you eat to maintain vaginal health?
Well, there’s a pretty long list…
But the #1 food to avoid for vaginal health is actually one of the ones most experts agree should be avoided for our overall physical health, as well.
Did you guess it, yet?

The #1 food to avoid is SUGAR.​

Excess sugar in all forms is bad news for your gut and vaginal microbiome. Refined sugar is added to just about everything these days, from spaghetti sauce to salad dressing - so you can easily go over your daily limit without even enjoying something sweet!
But you can’t forget things like fructose, the natural occurring sugars in fruits. Drinking a glass of fruit juice is a concentrated blast of fructose even if it’s NOT full of added sugars.
And don’t get us started on HFCS - High-Fructose Corn Syrups… That’s a topic of a future article! (But beware - it’s in far too many processed foods and drinks.)
Sugar in all forms is a favorite food of those “bad” organisms lurking in your vagina’s microbiome. So, when you eat too much, it's easy for organisms like candida to overrun the population... and yeast infections can result.
Similarly, some bacteria feed on others. Once an organism starts to overgrow - often by being given the opportunity to proliferate by having a good food source - that’s when things get out of balance.
It’s not so much about ‘good’ and ‘bad’, as it is about balance. And sugar can throw your body and hormones WAY out of balance, creating optimal conditions for infections and other common ailments of the va-jay-jay.
Thus, as with most things, MODERATION is key. A moderate amount of sugars (preferably not refined) is usually okay for most people.
But there are several other foods you should avoid if you want the happiest “down there”, today and every day.

5 Steps to Better Memory

And while it's true that youngsters do forget names, math facts, and when Dad said to be home, many folks 50 and older notice that their recall (what year did we go to California?) isn't what it used to be.

When you have such a senior moment, it's just a stutter in what's called episodic memory, and rarely is it long-lasting. But if you're concerned about your recall, talk to your doc about stress, sleep problems, depression, thyroid disease, diabetes, vitamin B-12 deficiency, excess alcohol use, infections, and your medications. They're all possible memory-busters. And try our unforgettable, brain-boosting tips!

1. Walk fast for at least 30 minutes daily, heading for 10,000 steps a day. Any exercise, but especially aerobics that make you sweat, is the very best memory enhancer.

2. Cut body-wide inflammation with omega-3 DHA from salmon or ocean trout; and take 900 mg of DHA from algal oil daily. Add in more omega-3s: walnuts, canola, and extra-virgin olive oil.
