As a whole, cancer is one of the most common diseases nowadays. In fact, according to the World Health Organization cancer is the second cause of death worldwide after heart conditions. Nowadays, researchers know cancer incidence has two major components: genetic and lifestyle factors. Genetics have to do with cancer risk passed from one generation to the next. Since not all cancers have genetic markers and scientists don’t know every marker for every type of cancer, a genetics-only diagnosis is not currently possible. On the other hand, lifestyle factors modulate the expression of genetic markers and are considered to be the key for the progression of the disease.

FINALLY, because smiling and laughing truly are -- according to research -- some of the best lifestyle medicine...

Here's a bit of a "racy" dad joke that I only share with my grown son (I'm not sure my little ones would even get it):

Did you hear about the chameleon who couldn't change color?

He had a reptile dysfunction.

;-)

Alright, to avoid and possibly overcome any dysfunctions, be sure to check out this Lifestyle Medicine Summit that starts today, October 20...

And enjoy your day!

Dr. McCullough Not Recommending Fall Vaccines for Healthy Adults and Children

Products are Not Compelling for Prevention of Severe COVID-19, Influenza, RSV

By Peter A. McCullough, MD, MPH
I appeared on American Sunrise (10/18/23) with Dr. Gina Loudon to let America know I am not recommending COVID-19 XBB.1.5 Boosters, influenza, or respiratory syncytial virus vaccines for healthy adults or children. None of these vaccines are compelling and conditions are easily treatable. The EUA COVID-19 injections have been determined to be unsafe for human use by the World Council for Health and the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons.
None of these vaccines have compelling efficacy. For example, the RENOIR Trial in 34,284 adults tested the unadjuvanted RSVpreF vaccine at a dose of 120 μg (containing 60 μg each of RSV A and RSV B antigens) (17,215 participants) versus placebo (17,069 participants). RSV-associated lower respiratory tract illness with at least two signs or symptoms occurred in 11 participants in the vaccine group and 33 participants in the placebo group, (vaccine efficacy, 66.7%; 96.66% confidence interval [CI], 28.8 to 85.8); 2 cases and 14 cases with least three signs or symptoms (vaccine efficacy, 85.7%; 96.66% CI, 32.0 to 98.7). RSV-associated acute respiratory illness occurred in 22 participants in the vaccine group and 58 participants in the placebo group, vaccine efficacy, 62.1%; 95% CI, 37.1 to 77.9). There were no hospitalizations or deaths mentioned in either group. Because data are sparse, we must rely on the lower limit of the confidence interval for treatment effect, which is unacceptable being far below 50% for all outcomes.
RSV, like influenza and COVID-19 are easily treatable infections at home. As you can see RSV is very rare with <1% of adults contracting the virus. Vaccinating the entire adult population is an excessive use of a poorly effective new product. For healthy persons, it is perfectly reasonable to skip fall vaccines and seek early treatment in the rare circumstance that one of these viral infections is contracted.

The worldwide Pharma industry HATES the new version of WHO's pandemic treaty

Well there will be no treaty without Big Pharma, so back to the drawing board. The new version was just released this week, and shows that trying to make everyone happy is one tough job.

OCT 20
https://www.ifpma.org/news/innovative-pharmaceutical-industry-statement-on-draft-who-pandemic-treaty-we-need-to-preserve-what-went-well-and-address-what-went-wrong/
As the body representing the global innovative pharmaceutical industry in official relations with the United Nations, IFPMA has issued the following statement in response.
Commenting on the draft of the World Health Organization (WHO) Intergovernmental Negotiating Body’s (INB) international instrument on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response, commonly referred to as the Pandemic Accord, circulated to member states today, IFPMA Director General, Thomas Cueni said:
“It would be better to have no pandemic treaty than a bad pandemic treaty, which the draft circulated to member states clearly represents.
“We must ensure future pandemic preparedness is informed by lessons from COVID-19, preserve what worked well, the innovation ecosystem that made possible the development of vaccines and treatment at record speed and scale, and fix what needs to be fixed, the inequity we saw in the roll out of these vaccines and treatments.
“The ability of the private sector to develop new vaccines and treatments in response to COVID-19 was driven by decades of R&D investment supported by the intellectual property framework and the ability of scientists to rapidly access data on pathogens. If adopted, the draft treaty would undermine both and leave us weaker ahead of the next pandemic than we were in December 2019, and we urge governments to make significant revisions to the current text.”

If you have been diagnosed with COPD, you need to see a pulmonary specialist and follow your treatment plan meticulously. In addition, here are some steps you can take to help enhance your treatment:

Special: Don't Spend a Dime on Vitamins — Until You Read This!

  • Avoid walking when it is too cold or hot outside.
  • Make sure you are not exposed to second-hand cigarette smoke.
  • Reduce air pollutants by not using your fireplace and getting rid of other irritants.

The Left Needs to Find Itself--by David Bell at Brownstone

Short, sweet and to the point. Pls read.

OCT 21
https://brownstone.org/articles/the-left-needs-to-find-itself/
It is tiring to be accused of being ‘far-right’ by people doing the bidding of the corporations and investors who recently made a killing on Covid. It is particularly irritating that such people, whilst deriding low-income workers and the ‘uneducated,’ have convinced themselves that they are somehow being virtuous. They call themselves ‘left,’ but so do I. We either need to rethink or ditch these outdated epithets, or be more honest about our positions.
As explanation, the following is a list of some actual ‘left’ policies I have always supported. They lean towards public health issues, as this is relevant to the times. They include:
  • An emphasis on human rights, bodily autonomy and freedom of movement.
  • An effort to limit inequality in wealth distribution.
  • Decolonization (i.e., large rich countries and the corporations in them (or that run them) should not dictate to, or extract wealth from, smaller and poorer countries.)
  • Community-based influence or control on local policy and resources, particularly healthcare.
  • A publicly funded health system that ensures reasonably equal access to good basic care.
  • Free and equal opportunity for education, to reduce poverty and improve gender equality.
  • Constitutional democracy, where governments exist on the will of the people, and inviolable rules protect minorities.
  • Free speech (essential to stop dictators from entrenching themselves, and to ensure progress)
  • Willingness to stand your ground for the above principles, even at some personal cost.
The list could go on, but generally this is where I was, and remain. This is why, ignorantly or not, I have always voted that way. Working in global health, I had thought that was where most of my colleagues were, though I was fine with those that differed. However, with notable exceptions, nearly all have actively supported the following list of antithetical policies during the past few years:
  • Mandated face coverings and injections, and vilification and exclusion of individuals and minorities who refused (Note: “exclusion” is the opposite of “inclusion,” so the opposite of DEI)
  • Desperation to defend the largest concentration of wealth in the history of humankind, with ‘left-wing’ media lauding the recipients (and incidentally sponsored by them).
  • Imposition of global policies geared to ensure broad uptake in low-income countries of Western health products to address a Western problem (i.e., “No one is safe until everyone is safe”), at the cost of deterioration of the health issues that actually impact low-income countries most.
  • Increasing centralization in international public health policy, with the World Health Organization (WHO), ‘philanthropists’ and a parrot-like sponsored media pushing the same policies on young mothers in Nigerian villages that they push on aged-care centers in Seattle.
  • Restricting healthcare access across much of the globe, from chemotherapy for NHS cancer patients in Britain and basic birthing support for young mothers in Kenya.
  • Advocating for school closures that will ensure increased poverty for the next generation, widening gender inequality, promoting child marriage, and child labor.
  • Rule by emergency decree, because the public may choose differently from the government. Then planning for a transfer of powers to the WHO for any health event, or even the threat of one, that WHO staff in a comfortable Swiss city deem to call an “emergency.”
  • Development of a whole new concept called an ‘infodemic.’ This involves people who are losing their right to show their face, work or visit family, questioning the regime that is removing these rights. The same regime that is profiting from their confinement. In an infodemic, the people asking the questions are deemed to be the problem, not the regime. (Remember when raging against the machine was a thing?)
Support for these actions requires an abandonment of any inclination to stand for those principles that we (the ‘left’) once believed in. Perhaps to hide this weakness from themselves, many now label human rights advocates and free-speech defenders as ‘anti-whatever’ or ‘whatever-denier (insert the latest thing, it is usually incoherent, or use the derogatory “free-dumb” instead).
If someone cannot see though this piece of Orwellian double-speak played out in the media and in life, benefiting the few at the expense of the many, then the behavioral psychology is working as intended. They won’t recognize reality until they snap out of it. But for those who agree with the first list above, but still persist in closing down debate and name-calling, self-reflection might bring a return of strength.
People can change their minds. Intelligent people do as they learn new things and find time to think.
Which brings us to the obvious conclusion. The new movement of cancellation, vilification, exclusion, and abuse is not a left or right movement. It promotes a form of totalitarianism closer to fascism than anything else, whilst calling others “fascist” for valuing free thought and free association. Fascism is not a synonym for freedom; it has a different and unpleasant meaning.
We live in a divided society. The divide is political. It is between those who value democracy, equality, and intrinsic human worth and those who think it virtuous to deride them. Those who still recognize these values as worthy should stop calling people stupid names and start asking, and allowing, questions. Inclusiveness is not a dogma; it is fundamentally the opposite. There is strength in diversity, not in subservience to another’s uniformity.

What Is a Sepsis Infection?

By Dr. Mike Roizen, MD

When Madonna was found unresponsive and had to be intubated at the intensive care unit, she seemed to be contending with sepsis — a life-threatening infection. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that every year, at least 1.7 million adults in the U.S. develop sepsis and nearly 270,000 die from it.

But what is sepsis exactly?

It’s a bacterial, viral, or fungal infection often associated with a dysfunctional immune system, widespread inflammation, blood clots, or leaky blood vessels, which can lead to severely low blood pressure and potential organ damage.

Special: This Gut Health Secret Is Key to Your Body's Immune Challenges

People age 65 and older (Madonna is 65) and those with a compromised immune system who have recently had surgery, have a chronic condition such as obesity, or have an infection of the lungs, urinary tract, skin, or gastrointestinal tract are most vulnerable.

Symptoms include fever, chills, rapid breathing and heart rate, rash, confusion, and disorientation — making it easy to mistake sepsis for some other illness.

In the intensive care unit, doctors may administer antibiotics and fluids, drugs to support heart and blood vessel function and prevent blood clots, and in some cases insert a breathing tube or perform surgery to excise the infection.

Although the risk of death increases every hour treatment is delayed, about 80% of patients recover from sepsis — most with no residual problems.

However, sepsis can leave a person with cognition problems and make them more vulnerable to developing other infections.

If you or a loved one has those symptoms and are at risk, get to an emergency department ASAP.

Hi Jimi,

There is a lot of available information about how to increase your longevity and healthspan.

But most of it is too boring or too complicated.

This is a problem because we need to know the best ways to improve our long-term health through our nutrition, fitness, and lifestyle.

So let’s make longevity fun!

I'm thrilled to share that my friends at Complement are creating a massive new online festival called Plantapalooza: Longevity.

Complement hosted their first Plantapalooza festival earlier this year, where hundreds of thousands of people took a deep dive into the scientific benefits of a plant-based diet.

Now they’re bringing back this incredible event, focusing it entirely on the subject of longevity and extending your healthspan.

And what they're doing is anything but boring.

How can the right questions be asked of the 3 USG witnesses at the WHO Reform hearing on Tuesday--Need Your Help! Please contact their offices, support HR79, ask them to ask questions below

Here are some reps who should be on our side and some questions they should ask, followed by a compendium on the proposed IHR amendments

OCT 22
Do we have any ins with any of the subcommittee members for this hearing? Here are 3 that ought to be on our side.
  • Nicole Malliotakis—NY Phone: (202) 225-3371 Not a cosponsor
  • Marjorie Taylor Greene—GA Phone: (202) 225-5211 Cosponsor of HR79 Exit the WHO

and others on the Subcommittee who cosponsored HR79:
  • Debbie Lesko—AZ Cosponsor of HR79, Exit the WHO (202) 225-4576
  • Michael Cloud—TX Cosponsor of HR79, Exit the WHO (202) 225-7742

Reforming the WHO: Ensuring Global Health Security and Accountability

https://oversight.house.gov/hearing/reforming-the-who-ensuring-global-health-security-and-accountability/
I would ask these questions:
  1. Why were the words “human rights, dignity and fundamental freedoms of persons" removed from the IHR in the proposed amendments? Does your agency support this omission?
  2. Has the USG made any efforts to place these ideas back into the amendments?
  3. How much will it cost the US to adhere to the pandemic plan in the amendments?
  4. What standards will the D-G use to declare a PHEIC?
  5. What standards will be used to turn off the PHEIC declaration?
  6. Why does the WHO reserve to itself the right to stop nations using certain treatments? Does the US agree with this provision? (Proposed article 43.4 notes that the WHO could ban the use of certain medications[1] or other measures during a pandemic, since its 'recommendations' would be binding:
"WHO shall make recommendations to the State Party concerned to modify or rescind the application of the additional health measures in case of finding such measures as disproportionate or excessive. The Director General shall convene an Emergency Committee for the purposes of this paragraph."
  1. Why does the WHO reserve the right to direct nations to censor citizens and be the sole arbiter of truth in the public health sector? Didn’t COVID teach us that there can be more than one valid medical opinion, and that restricting discussion is not in our best interest?
  2. What right has the WHO or US government to give up the intellectual property of private corporations?
  3. Isn’t Transferring genetic sequence data for "pathogens capable of causing pandemics and epidemics or other high-risk situations" to other Nations or third parties, another way of describing the proliferation of biological warfare agents? (Article 44.1(f) (new)). Isn’t this prohibited or if not, shouldn’t it be?

Exercise for your brain

We’ve all heard how exercise is needed to keep us physically healthy and release stress, but exercise can actually improve your memory. Research has shown that aerobic exercise in late adulthood improves episodic memory, the ability to remember personal events and experiences.

I recommend that you make movement part of your routine with these key components:

  1. 🏃Aerobic activities such as biking, dancing, rowing, jogging, and whatever else you enjoy get your heart pumping and blood flowing. To reduce cardiovascular risk, aim for 150-200 minutes per week of aerobic exercise. This can look like 4 (four) one-hour classes per week with a bit of warm up and cool down.
  2. 💪 Strength training is muscle-building and should always be done safely with a partner or trainer. This exercise can be with the use of weights, resistance bands, or body weight. Examples of this movement are weight lifting, yoga, pilates, push-ups, squats, hill climbing, and even heavy gardening such as using a shovel and digging. One goal of strength training is to reduce fall risk. If you increase your strength then you can better support yourself. Another goal is the improvement of bone health, making you strong and healthy.
  3. 🧠 Dual-task exercises engage the brain and body. An example of dual-task exercise is having someone quiz you on important dates or people while you are on a brisk walk. For some people just following the cues of a yoga or dance class instructor is enough to engage both the brain and body simultaneously.

Start now

As with all forms of cognitive care, the sooner you start, the better the results. “We found that there were greater improvements in memory among those who are age 55 to 68 years compared to those who are 69 to 85 years old—so intervening earlier is better." said lead author of the aforementioned study, Sarah Aghjayan in this article.

Brain activities and movement should be personalized to each individual to prevent injury and maximize results. Always work with your trusted provider to assess which activities are right for you. Personal trainers can be great assets and guides for physical activity.

Let’s get moving and continue with our movement toward a world without dementia!

Warmly,

Dr. Heather Sandison

The science behind pomegranates

I first became interested in pomegranates when my Persian friend told me that in her native home, Iran, women used pomegranates for both fertility but also to treat and prevent breast cancer. And then, when I got to cook with it, my fascination and appreciation only grew.

1. Antioxidant, anti-cancer, and estrogenic effect

Pomegranate seeds are rich in lignans, which provide antioxidant, anti-cancer, and estrogenic effects (this is a good thing!).

Here’s a quote from “Pomegranate: The Most Medicinal Fruit" book:

“Today, most references to phytoestrogens in the popular media refer primarily to isoflavones found in soy and the lignans in flax, but the pomegranate’s phytoestrogenic properties are just as impressive, perhaps even more so. In our investigations, we also discovered a large store of 17-alfa-estradiol in pomegranate seed oil. This compound is a mirror image version of the estrogen produced in the highest quantities in the female body. To the best of our knowledge, this was the first time it has ever been found in plant sources.“

This explains the centuries of fascination with this fruit and its use as a fertility elixir.

2. Effects on estrogenic cancers (breast, uterine, thyroid), fibroids, and endometriosis

Does this mean that pomegranates are only good for women with low estrogen? No.

Estrogen is a much-needed hormone in any woman’s body—each of us needs it to stay strong, sharp, slim, and energetic.

If you have followed me for a while, you know that in certain conditions like ER+ breast cancer, fibroids, or endometriosis, estrogen is responsible for the proliferation of malignant tissue.

But it’s not just any estrogen. It’s the 17β-estradiol that is the key culprit. It is often high in women who use commercial skincare products, are toxic (due to poor digestion and liver function), live a highly stressful life (and create what is called “progesterone steal”—more on that another time) and have a genetic disposition to be poor estrogen metabolizer (like me...)

Some plants, including pomegranates, are called Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators (SERMs). SERM is a compound that attaches itself to an estrogen receptor so there is no room for the antagonistic estrogen to attach itself to the cell. If estrogen isn't attached to a breast cell, the cell doesn't receive estrogen's signals to grow and multiply. Once again, the genius of mother nature.

It’s nature’s gift to us, women, that pomegranates are great for both women low in estrogen (such as in perimenopause and menopause) but also women who experience Estrogen Dominance (hence ER+ breast cancer, endometriosis, fibroids, PMS, and thyroid nodules).

Interestingly, Tamoxifen (a drug prescribed to ER+ breast cancer patients), is a SERM as well, except that it has a long list of side effects and is therefore not recommended to be used in the long term.

3. Skin healer

About 18% of pomegranate seeds contain punicic acid, which is highly valued by the skin care industry due to its potent skin regenerative properties. It is not only great for scars but also wrinkles, and dry, inflamed, or sun-damaged skin.
