Vitamin E Inhibits Obesity

Dr. David Brownstein, M.D., writes:


Over a 13-week period, researchers fed mice high-fat diets either along with or in the absence of tocotrienols, which are part of the vitamin E family. The treatment with tocotrienols inhibited fat tissue accumulation and elevation of serum cholesterol. Additionally, behaviors were improved by oral tocotrienols.

In the March issue of the journal Molecules, the authors concluded, “These results suggest that [tocotrienols] attenuate obesity via inhibition of body fat and serum cholesterol increase.”

As I have noted before, the most common health problem affecting Americans is obesity. This study found that a particular form of vitamin E (tocotrienols) helped prevent obesity by inhibiting body fat. I have used tocotrienols for years as an anticancer agent as well as a modulator of hormones. They are particularly useful for women who are suffering from menopause symptoms.

Of course, there is no miracle treatment for obesity. There is no substitute for eating a healthy diet and exercising. Most importantly, eliminate food products such as refined sugar to help maintain an optimal weight.

Ketchup was once sold as medicine.​

The ketchup we slather onto hot dogs, burgers, and fries today once had a different purpose: Doctors believed it was best consumed as a health tonic. Ketchup has come a long way from its roots in China as far back as the third century BCE, when cooks fermented seafood to create a salty, amber-colored sauce that resembles modern fish sauce (an anchovy-based condiment that adds umami flavor to many Asian dishes). By around the 16th century, British sailors had taken word of ketchup back to their home country, and British cooks tried to replicate it with their own versions made from walnuts and mushrooms. It’s not clear exactly when tomatoes came on the scene, though the first known tomato ketchup recipe appeared around 1812, published by Philadelphia horticulturist James Mease.

It wasn’t until the 1830s that some doctors began rebranding tomatoes as a 19th-century superfood. One physician, Dr. John Cook Bennett, especially promoted tomatoes as cures for indigestion and other stomach ailments, encouraging a craze for the fruit that eventually saw the introduction of ketchup pills and extracts. (One memorable jingle went, “tomato pills will cure all your ills.”) The fad lasted through around the 1850s, but soon enough home cooks focused on creating their own ketchups instead of taking the vitamin equivalents. The sauce then became an easily obtainable American dinner table staple in large part thanks to the H. J. Heinz Company, which released its first tomato ketchup in 1876.

WHO Withdrawal Analysis and Next Steps​

President Trump issued an executive order on January 20, 2025, for the United States to withdraw from the World Health Organization. Executive orders are law until revoked, which could happen during this administration or in any that follow. Days after issuing this executive order, Trump stated at a rally in Las Vegas that the U.S. could "maybe" join again, if they "clean it up a bit."1 This is extremely troubling and shows us that we still have a lot of work to do with President Trump on health freedom issues.

5 Bodily Symptoms You Can’t Ignore

You should never ignore sudden changes or pain in your body. These signals may be warning you of serious medical issues, say experts.

While severe chest pain can be a sign of a heart attack, there are some lesser-known ways our bodies talk to us when something may be dreadfully wrong. Here are some potentially deadly symptoms that you should never ignore:

Special: The Hidden Heart Risk Even a Cardiologist Didn't See Coming

Sudden leg pain. Pain or tenderness in the back of your lower leg, especially if it appears to be sudden and accompanied by swelling, may signal a blood clot that could break off and travel to your lungs, which could be life-threatening. This is called a deep vein thrombosis or DVT.

Sudden numbness, tingling, or speech problems. If you suffer paralysis or if your arms or legs feel weak or numb, especially on one side of your body, you may be having a stroke. Seek immediate medical attention.

Blood in the urine. Blood even without pain can signal a serious problem. The most common causes are kidney stones or infections of the urinary tract or prostate, but it could also be cancer.

Bleeding gums. This could be a sign of leukemia. People with leukemia bleed more readily than those with normal blood platelets. Other symptoms include fatigue, nosebleeds, fever, and night sweats.

Striped hair. This could signal a lack of dietary protein and iron. The stripes may turn blond, gray, or reddish. They may be a sign of ulcerative colitis, a bowel disease that causes inflammation of the digestive tract, or another condition like irritable bowel syndrome.
