A Breathing Practice To Calm Your Mind

Today we're going to embark on a journey into India - to learn a powerful breathing practice that's easy to do. It will calm your heart and quiet your mind...

The technique is called Nadi Shodhana Pranayama, or alternate nostril breathing. In Sanskrit, the word “Nadi” means channel or flow, the word “Shodhana” means clarifying or purifying, and “Pranayama” means to take control of one's breath.

During this practice, you'll experience a sense of peace almost immediately. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Studies indicate that it can improve cardiovascular health and lung function, as it balances your heart rate. This in turn reduces your stress, which we know is good for overall physical and mental health. There is also strong evidence that alternate nostril breathing improves brain function.

So, without further ado, here are five things about anxiety I tell my patients that perhaps no one told you:
1. Hormones matter.
Low progesterone in the 2nd half of your cycle can trigger or worsen anxiety.
2. Progesterone = nature’s chill pill.
It’s anti-anxiety, anti-inflammatory, and mood-supporting. Stress lowers progesterone—reducing stress improves progesterone.
3. Balance your blood sugar.
Eat enough. Eat often. Include protein, fat, and carbs. Stable blood sugar = calmer mood.
4. Use your breath as medicine.
One hand on heart, one hand on belly and breathe. Slow, intentional breathing for 2–3 minutes reduces anxiety and boosts focus.
5. Guard your inputs.
What you watch, read, and scroll is as important as what you eat. Choose what calms, not what drains.
Anxiety is not “all in your head.”
Your hormones, blood sugar, and daily habits all play a role!

90% reduction in cancer deaths

Had a question about gadolinium from MRI contrast during one of our last Going Integrative Plus calls, Jim…

the doctor said that while the best option is NOT getting contrast (which IS an option way more often than most radiologists will acknowledge until you stand your ground and demand to try)

His primary go-to for getting it back out of the body is chelation with EDTA.

Come to think of it, the one time we did get contrast for Ryder long after we’d stopped for his MRI checks, due to a series of conventional medicine blunders on a different issue (too long a story to go into here)

our naturopathic oncologist had recommended EDTA as well.

Forgot about that until just now!

Switching over to environmental toxicants, which we don’t have a lot of control over outside the house, the really big one I don’t think gets talked about enough is tire and brake dust in the air

exposing all of us to heavy metals, nanoplastics, and the whole chemical cocktail, including 6PPD-quinone in particular, that’s been proven ESPECIALLY toxic, found in that particulate matter.

Tying this all together, back in the SIXTIES, a study was conducted on residents of a small Swiss town next to a freeway

in which one group was preventatively treated with EDTA, and compared to a control group who were NOT treated.

18 years later, only ONE of 59 treated patients (1.7%) had died of cancer, while 30 of 172 non-treated control subjects (17.6%) had died of cancer.

That’s a 90% reduction in cancer deaths, in other words.

Death from atherosclerosis was also reduced.

Healthy Potato Salad
A classic, reimagined with chickpeas, cabbage, and a zesty dressing.
This crowd-pleasing side is packed with flavor and easy to prep ahead of time. Plus, it pairs perfectly with grilled veggies, burgers (plant-based or not!), and good company.
Ingredients:
  • 4 small potatoes
  • 1 x 400g can of organic chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 1/4 red cabbage, finely shredded
  • 100g green beans, topped, tailed, and sliced in halves
  • Handful of fresh parsley, chopped
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 tbsp wholegrain mustard
  • 1/4 cup homemade mayonnaise or organic whole-egg mayo
Method:
  1. Add chopped potatoes to a large pot and cover with enough water to have an inch of water covering everything. Cook until tender when poked with a fork.
  2. Drain the potatoes, and rise with cold water. Cool slightly. While the potatoes are cooling, add the chickpeas, shredded red cabbage, chopped green beans, and parsley to a large bowl.
  3. In a separate bowl, make the dressing by combining the lemon juice, mustard, and mayo and stirring until combined.
  4. Once the potatoes have cooled, add them to the bowl with the chickpeas, cabbage, green beans, and parsley. Add the dressing and mix until all ingredients are coated well.

Protecting Yourself From Heatstroke

Dr. Russell Blaylock, M.D., writes:


As usual, the summer is going to be hot, especially for those of us in the deep South. As a result, we will see a number of cases of heatstroke.

The question is: Can we do anything about it? According to data, there are about 7,000 deaths in the United States each year from heatstroke, mostly among very young and old people. Heatstroke is more common among the elderly, and can result in permanent brain damage.

You can take the usual precautions, such as drinking plenty of cool water, covering your head, dressing in loose-fitting cool clothing, drinking electrolytes, and coming indoors out of the heat frequently.

I once had a partner who treated an elderly gentleman with chronic damage from a heatstroke. The main result was that he could no longer tolerate the heat.

Heatstroke can cause changes in blood pressure, headaches, and even seizures. Neurological studies have shown that heatstroke can lead to an irritable cortex with an abnormal electroencephalogram (EEG) reading, which measures brain waves.

The best early treatment is to drink at least a liter of cold filtered water. Then take a shower in cold water, letting it run on your head and neck for at least 10 minutes. This will cool the brain, which is overheated. Serious cases require hospitalization.

As noted, my partner had a patient suffering complications from heatstroke, and he didn’t know what to do. Nothing seemed to work. I suggested the patient be put on Dilantin, a seizure medication. To everyone’s surprise, he improved. I suspect it corrected heat-induced instability of the neurons, which can result in neurological symptoms including seizures. The medication stabilized the affected neurons.

Nano-curcumin will protect the brain as well. And antioxidant vitamins E, D3, B complex, riboflavin 5-phosphate, and pyridoxal 5-phosphate all reduce the free radicals.

It’s also a good idea to take a coated aspirin daily. This helps prevent formation of blood clots, a known complication of heatstroke.
