Here is a lovely prayer / poem from the French philosopher and author Albert Camus that speaks to the spirit of this shortest day of the year.

In the depth of winter,
I finally learned

Four Ways to Lose Weight After 50
By Chauncey Crandall, M.D.
As we age, our metabolism slows down, stress builds up causing hormone imbalances, and we tend to be more sedentary, leading to age-related weight gain. The good news is that there are steps you can take to lose those extra pounds:
Special: Millions Suffer From Chronic Conditions — Don't Know It's Their Thyroid
1. Boost muscle mass. Muscle is more metabolically active than fat, meaning it burns more energy. But by the age of 50, we lose 10 percent of our muscle mass. Strength training with weights or resistance bands three times a week, combined with aerobic activity, will build muscle and burn calories.
2. Change your routine. When you challenge your body in a new way, you build more muscle mass and burn more calories. If you’ve been following the same fitness regimen for decades, shake things up with something new. Experts also suggest eating protein at every meal to increase both muscle mass and boost metabolism.
3. Control hormone swings. As we age, our levels of estrogen and testosterone decline, which makes us store fat. Excess sugar also disrupts insulin levels in the body, which can affect other hormones. To fight back, cut down on refined sugars and starches, and stick to protein and whole foods.
4. Get enough sleep. Research shows a consistent relationship between sleep and weight gain. Studies have found that people who are sleep-deprived not only eat more the next day, they also reach for higher calorie foods. And lack of sleep affects the balance of the body’s hunger hormones.

Hello,
A surprising truth:
Most people have the capacity to live well into their 90s or 100s—but almost no one gets there.
Not because of genetics.
Not because of fate.
But because of four myths that quietly shape their lives:
Myth #1: “My genetics decide everything.”
(They don’t. Only 10–20% of lifespan is genetic.)
Myth #2: “Decline is inevitable.”
(It’s actually predictable—and preventable.)
Myth #3: “It’s too late after 60.”
(Longevity interventions work better later in life.)
Myth #4: “I can do this alone.”
(Every long-living culture has community at the center.)

History is full of people who tried to navigate unfamiliar terrain on their own.

Not because they were careless, but because they didn’t yet understand how much guidance mattered.

In 1845, British explorer Sir John Franklin set out to find and traverse the Northwest Passage, a fabled Arctic sea route connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

Franklin was well equipped and highly motivated.

But his expedition relied almost entirely on traditional British naval methods and failed to meaningfully incorporate Inuit knowledge of Arctic travel, survival, and navigation.

As a result, Franklin’s two ships and every one of the 129 crew members disappeared after becoming trapped in ice near King William Island.

The terrain didn’t defeat them. Lack of guidance did.

I think navigating your health can feel surprisingly similar.

Years ago, when I was struggling with chronic fatigue and other lingering symptoms, I was trying so hard to feel better.

I was putting in the effort. I was doing what I thought I was supposed to be doing. Some days, I even tried to convince myself I was improving.

But I kept going in circles.

It wasn’t until I began to truly understand nutrition, the microbiome, and how different systems in the body influence one another and sought out expert guidance that things started to change in a real, lasting way.

If you’re dealing with stubborn health issues…

Or if you’re doing your best and still don’t quite feel like yourself…

What’s often missing isn’t effort or willpower.

It’s guidance.

That’s why I want to personally invite you to join me for the Food Matters Institute’s FREE 7-Day Healing Series.

⇒ Click here to claim your seat (it’s free!)

This online series is designed to help you stop guessing and start understanding how your body actually works.

Over seven days, you’ll explore the foundations of health that so many of us were never taught, including:

  • Gut health and digestion
  • Hormone balance
  • Weight and metabolism
  • Stress and nervous system health
  • Inflammation
  • Sleep, fatigue, and energy
  • Healthy aging

You’ll be guided by a diverse group of experienced practitioners and educators, including experts like Christa Orecchio, JJ Virgin, Dr. Libby Weaver, Marc David, Jon Gabriel, and others who focus on food-first, whole-body approaches to healing.

But what matters most isn’t the number of experts or the list of topics.

It’s how you’ll feel after seeing these sessions.

Instead of symptoms that feel random or overwhelming, things begin to connect. Instead of feeling behind or broken, you feel informed and supported. Instead of wondering what to try next, you gain a calmer sense of direction.

You’ll race into 2026 ready to make real progress on your health journey!

The entire series is free, and joining now is a simple way to give yourself clarity, confidence, and momentum as we move into the new year.

Get the guidance you need at this free 7-Day Healing Series.

Dr. Small: Gut Bacteria Can Influence Mood and Memory

By Newsmax Wires

Millions of microscopic, single-celled organisms live in the human body, and most of them play a beneficial role in keeping people healthy, Dr. Gary Small, director of behavioral health breakthrough therapies at Hackensack Meridian Health in New Jersey, told Newsmax recently.

However, Small said on Newsmax's "National Report" that the gut microbiome, or the mix of bacteria and other microbes in the digestive tract, can also affect the brain in multiple ways, including inflammation and the production of neurotransmitters tied to how people think and feel.

Editor’s Note: Discover How to Improve Your Memory Easily!

"Some of them are healthy. Some of them are unhealthy," Small said of gut microbes, adding that certain bacteria "can actually leak out of the gut and seep into our bloodstream and go right up into the brain."

Small said that the process can worsen inflammation, which he linked to depression symptoms and memory problems.

"They can heighten inflammation, which we know will enhance feelings of depression, affect our memory," he said.

Special: Superpower Your 'Second Brain': Experience Better Immune Health and Overall Well-Being

Small also warned that some microbes may produce "amyloid-like proteins" that can be harmful to the brain.

He said researchers have also found that gut bacteria can produce neurotransmitters — brain chemicals that influence mood and cognition.

"It's remarkable they actually produce neurotransmitters that go into the brain," Small said. "These brain messengers that can alter how we think and how we feel."

Editor’s Note: Why Your Digestion Is Getting Worse with Age

Small said diet and daily habits can help people shift the balance toward healthier gut microbes, pointing to evidence supporting the idea behind the phrase "you are what you eat."

He recommended a high-fiber diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains to support beneficial bacteria.

The doctor described certain high-fiber foods as "prebiotics," including items such as onions and apples, which can help nourish helpful microbes in the gut.

Small also highlighted probiotics, or foods that introduce live beneficial bacteria, including fermented options such as yogurt, kefir, and sauerkraut.

Beyond food, Small emphasized lifestyle choices that can support gut and brain health, including managing stress, getting consistent sleep, exercising regularly, and limiting processed foods high in refined sugar.

Asked for a short list of foods to add to a meal immediately, Small recommended green leafy vegetables, colorful fruits, and healthy fats.

"People think that fat is bad for you, but fats from olive oil and avocados, these are healthy fats," he said.

The Mind, Body & Vagus Nerve Connection Summit
Dietary choices are deeply influenced by the nervous system. Stress can alter digestion, nutrient absorption, appetite regulation, and blood sugar response. To get out of survival mode, you have to engage your vagus nerve.
This summit explores how the vagus nerve supports digestive efficiency, gut brain communication, and metabolic balance. Experts share strategies to regulate the nervous system so nutrition can be better utilized by the body.
The Healing Leaky Gut Masterclass
Nutrition plays a key role in maintaining the gut barrier. When gut integrity is compromised, even high quality foods can trigger inflammation and immune activation.
In this masterclass, Dr. David Jockers explains how targeted nutrition and supplement strategies can help repair the gut lining, improve microbial diversity, and reduce inflammation, enhancing nutrient absorption.
The Insulin Resistance Summit
Food choices directly influence metabolic health. Insulin resistance can develop even in people who eat well, especially when stress, inflammation, and gut dysfunction are present.
At the Insulin Resistance Summit, Dr. Brian Mowll and more than 30 experts go into how dietary patterns and daily habits affect blood sugar regulation.

There is a moment every cancer patient prays for.

It is the moment the doctor looks at the scan, smiles, and says, "We got it all. You are clear."

But for far too many people, that moment is followed, months or years later, by a devastating realization:

It came back.

And often, it returns more aggressive than before.

Why does this happen? If the chemo and radiation "worked," why is the disease still there?

For decades, we were told it was just "bad luck."

But research published in top oncology journals suggests a much more specific, mechanical failure in the standard treatment.

The Queen Bee Theory

Tumors are not just blobs of identical cells. They are organized hierarchies, much like a beehive.

Most of the tumor is made up of "Worker Cells." These divide fast. They are the ones that make the tumor grow large on a scan.

But hiding deep inside the mass is a tiny, resilient population, often less than 1%, known as Cancer Stem Cells (CSCs).

Think of these as the "Queen Bees."

Standard chemotherapy is designed to hunt down fast-dividing cells.

It is excellent at killing the "Worker Bees."

So, the tumor shrinks. The scan looks clear. The doctor celebrates.

But the Queen often survives.

Because Cancer Stem Cells divide slowly, they can fly under the radar of chemotherapy.

Even worse, studies in Nature Reviews Cancer have confirmed that these cells are naturally resistant to drugs and can essentially "re-seed" the entire tumor after treatment ends (Dean et al., 2005).

Other research indicates that standard treatments might even enrich these populations, leaving behind a tumor that is smarter and harder to kill (Batlle & Clevers, 2017).

You cut the weed. But you left the root.

How To Target The "Mother Cell"

If you want to truly secure your future, you cannot just shrink the tumor.

You must eliminate the Queen.

This requires a completely different approach, one that targets the metabolic and signaling pathways of the stem cell itself (Ayob & Ramasamy, 2018).

Tomorrow, Monday, December 22nd, the special relaunch of Cancer Decoded begins.

My friend Jonathan Otto has gathered the world’s top experts to reveal the specific protocols designed to target these "root cause" cells, using non-toxic therapies that the standard of care ignores.

Click here to secure your complimentary pass for the premiere (Starts Tomorrow).

A Critical Note:

Access to this docuseries normally costs USD297.

However, for this special relaunch event, the producers are waiving the fee. They are making this vital intelligence available as a complimentary gift for a strictly limited time.

You do not have to live in fear of recurrence.

You do not have to wonder if the "All Clear" was real.

You just need the right map to find and neutralize the root.
