I have an interesting little tidbit about MUSTARD for you!

I recently dug up several studies about mustard and mustard seeds, and found out that a high quality mustard can help lower blood sugar, improve insulin sensitivity, lower your appetite, and also increase antioxidant response in your body, lowering inflammation.

In one study, overweight participants used 1 tsp of whole grain mustard on a cracker (or by itself) every night for 12 weeks. A whopping 86% of participants saw a drop in their blood glucose and cholesterol.

In other studies on mustard, researchers found a compound in mustard called AITC that seemed to promote a significant antioxidant response in the body, lowering inflammatory markers, and improving insulin sensitivity.

I won't go into all the boring details of the various studies on mustard, but the simple takeaway message is that you can't go wrong adding a little high quality mustard (stone ground, Dijon, etc) to your diet for some major health benefits, and better blood sugar control.

Breathing Exercise Lowers Blood Pressure

A daily “workout” for breathing muscles may help lower blood pressure to a similar degree as exercise or even medication, a study suggests.

The technique is called inspiratory muscle strength training (IMST), and it involves using a device that provides resistance as the user inhales — exercising the diaphragm and other breathing muscles.

Researchers found that over six weeks, the exercises lowered study participants’ blood pressure by nine points, on average. And all it took was five minutes of training per day, said lead researcher Daniel Craighead, assistant research professor at the University of Colorado, Boulder.

After six weeks, people in the IMST group saw their systolic blood pressure drop from an average of 135 mmHg to 126 mmHg.

The improvement is on par with medication, according to Craighead, and even better than what’s typical with exercise.

Study participants had higher-than-normal blood pressure but were healthy. It’s unclear how well the technique would work for people in poorer health. There’s also the question of how long the benefits last, Craighead said.

Even after the training ended, most of the blood pressure reductions were sustained for another six weeks.

One of the best decisions I ever made was cutting out ultra-processed food and choosing real food as much as possible.

More and more research is now finding man-made food additives linked to cancer, type 2 diabetes, and other chronic diseases.

Two large new studies out of France just found that people who consume the highest amounts of common food preservatives have significantly higher risk of cancer and type 2 diabetes than those who eat less of them.



Potassium Sorbate: About 14% higher overall cancer risk and 26% higher breast cancer risk.

Sulfites: About 12% higher overall cancer risk.

Sodium Nitrite and Nitrates: Tied to higher cancer risk, including about a 32% higher prostate cancer risk for nitrites.

Erythorbates: About 21% higher breast cancer risk and 12% higher overall cancer risk.

Calcium Propionate: Linked to higher type 2 diabetes risk.

People with the highest intake of preservatives overall had up to a 47% higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

You’ll find these chemicals added to everyday foods like bread, pizza, tortillas, energy drinks, deli meats, flavored yogurts, and dried fruit to make them last longer on shelves…but clearly at the expense of our health.

This helps explain why almost every family now knows someone with cancer, pre-diabetes, or chronic illness.

We’re even seeing diseases in kids that used to only affect adults. That should alarm every single one of us.

And it all comes back to what’s in our food.

If someone you love is living on energy drinks, frozen pizza, and packaged snacks, this could be the wake-up call they need.

Most people have no idea these chemicals are even in their food, let alone that they come with these health risks.

I hope you’re having a healthy day!
We all know exercise is good for the body. From cardiovascular to weight training, exercise strengthens the body, keeps you fit and can even boost your immune system. But did you know exercise is good for the brain, too? That’s what a recent study is saying, and we’re here to break it down for you…
You might think of exercise as a way to keep your body fit. But what if I told you it’s also one of the best things you can do for your brain, whether you’re a kid, a parent, or a grandparent? That’s the headline from this huge new study. Researchers dug into 133 previous reviews, covering a whopping 2724 clinical trials and over 258,000 people, to see whether physical activity influences brain power. Here’s what they found:
  • Even low- to moderate-intensity exercise (think walking, yoga, gentle cycling) was enough to improve cognitive abilities.
  • Your memory sharpens. Your ability to plan, reason, and switch between tasks, what scientists call executive function, gets a boost.
It doesn’t matter if you’re young or old, sprinter or couch-surfer. Exercise, particularly in terms of strengthening your brain, works for everyone.
But not all movement is created equal when it comes to the brain. The meta-analysis revealed some interesting patterns:
  • Children and teens saw the biggest gains in memory.
  • People with ADHD experienced large boosts in executive function, think focus, decision-making, impulse control.
  • Surprisingly, relaxing, mindful activities like yoga or Tai Chi delivered some of the strongest brain benefits. Even “exergames”, think active video games, helped.
Even better: the benefits don’t take years to show. Many participants saw improvements within 1–3 months of starting regular, moderate activity.
So why does this matter? Well, here’s why this is a big deal: as societies age, many people worry about cognitive decline, memory loss, and reduced mental agility. The new study suggests there’s a simple, accessible tool to fight that. Exercise! Because this study didn’t just look at elite athletes. It looked at everyday people, often with modest activity. That means the findings apply to you, no special gear or extreme workouts required. It’s also hopeful from a public-health perspective. As the authors note, regular exercise could help preserve brain health across all ages and even become part of healthcare or education strategies.
I’m sure you’re asking, “What can I do about this right now?” I’m glad you asked! Here are some easy, practical steps you can take, whether you want to sharpen memory, focus better, or just keep your mind agile as you age:
  • Pick gentle and fun movements to start. A brisk walk, a dance-around-the-kitchen, yoga, Tai Chi, or even exergames count. Any exercise helps!
  • Do something regularly, say 30–45 minutes, most days of the week. Even low-intensity movement works.
  • Mix it up. Alternating walking, light cardio, and calming mind-body practices can give your brain lots of different kinds of stimulation.
  • Be patient, but persistent. Many of the cognitive benefits appeared after just 1–3 months of consistent activity.
  • Keep it age-appropriate. This works for kids, adults and older people alike. It’s not about performance, it’s about movement.
Exercise isn’t just good for your heart, your waistline, or your mood, it’s a powerful, affordable brain booster. Even a little bit, a walk, a stretch, some yoga, done regularly can sharpen memory, improve focus, and support mental performance at any age. So next time you’re tempted to skip physical activity, remember: your brain could use the love of some good exercise, too.

As moms, we teach our children to clean up after themselves and take responsibility for their actions. But in Texas today, there's a troubling double standard, and families are paying the price.

Texas is the nation's largest producer of plastic. Along with that production comes plastic pellet pollution - tiny plastic beads that spill from factories, trains, and trucks and wash into our rivers, bays, and beaches. And once they're in the water... they don't go away.

Plastic pellets break down into microplastics that have been found in water, food, breast milk, placentas, and children's bodies, and are nearly impossible to clean up once they enter rivers and bays.

Here's what's not right:​

Every day, Texans can be fined for littering...
Yet large plastic and petrochemical companies can spill millions of plastic pellets into our waterways and often face little or no meaningful consequence.

That's not fair.
That's not responsible.
And it's not the example we want to set for our kids.

The good news:​

This pollution is entirely preventable.

Simple, common-sense rules can require companies to keep pellets contained, prevent spills, clean up immediately, and be held accountable when they pollute Texas communities.

That’s why we're asking you to contact Governor Abbott today.
