I don't build claptons and stuff much these days. Not because I don't want to, but that I can't run the drill in my place at night with my toddler in the next room sleeping. I've run lengths with a janky setup on top of the washer and drier in the laundry room of my apartment, but there is no where for me to secure my vise so if it moves my build is fucked. I was in the laundry room tonight...
I tried to do my first alien. 34g on 28g cores. Didn't get enough for a wrap (bunched on me every 4-5 cm. I was free handing the drill and stretching out my arm to keep the wire feeding down the length.), but looking at it under macro I didn't have the wraps close enough anyways. Did I under stretch?
After the fail I just wanted to get something done so I ripped out a length of twisted fused. 26g cores, 30g wrap.
It kind of looks under stretched but if you wrapped your clapton on something like say a 26g and then used3x 26g i'd of said you'd get the same thing, when i use 3x 26g cores i use 24g to make the decore on, it also gives more wave to the alien than the 26g because you would have to stretch the 26 more to span the same distance as the 24.
You could try a table vise that you can suction the base onto your washing machine if you dont want to drill holes.
