That's just it though, it's not done to save the employees butts, it's to save their own.
Put a company into bankruptcy, layoff everyone and move on. Who gives a shit what the dishwasher or receptionist is going to do for work.
Start a new company, hire new people and reap the profits.
I would give kudos to someone that did as you describe but that's not usually the case.

I just read a Libertarian site, and the comments. The comments from the Libertarians (big L=Party) are hilarious. Apparently they think if one State votes for Gary then Hitlery and Trump can't get to 270 electoral votes and then the House will choose Gary. And the State they think they can win. Utah. Yep. The Mormons are gonna make Gary Johnson President. You know how Mormons love their sticky icky. That sweet smell of herb. You can't go into a bar without a "membership"(or a member signs you in), but the Mormons are going to vote for Gary, the herb CEO. Yeah, Mormons are going to vote for Gary and then the House will choose him for President. Looks like a valid path to victory, heh.
As a little (l) libertarian, this is why I never became a big (L) Libertarian. The Libertarian Party is as representative of libertarians as the Branch Davidians is representative of Christians.

@fq06 i understand your point of responsibility. Im just saying sometimes people find themselves in really bad situations thru no fault of their own . Good and honest people . Like a Vet disabled in the service of his country and cant work . Or thousands left jobless when a plant moves to Mexico. We need to elect leaders who will stop these problems and avoid situations where bankruptcy is the only option to survive. I belive you are asking for responsibility. But i dont agree with the broad label and judgment of people that have found themselves in this very painful and life altering situations . I respect your opinion and your entitled to express it freely . But you should also know people will have a different take . And will give their reasoning behind it . There are alot of people in this country who are desperate , poor ,worry day to day if they will feed their kids or have a job . Living in a affluent area you may not see this besides the drunks or druggies on the street . These are people . Some end up there by their own hand or demon's but some are there for reasons not of their own . To give someone a hand up and new start is not in moral it is being American . It is the Christian (or any faith for that matter) thing to do . Its what makes us different ,you do get a second chance . Im not giving you hate brother just my opinion !

While that is true, we should always remember that the correlation between "legal" and "ethical/moral" is never 1:1.
I very much understand the sentiment that a man should pay his debts. OTOH, in a debt-based monetary system like ours, some debt MUST default on a regular basis, otherwise the system becomes unstable. The longer defaults are prevented by artificial means such as the ones we've seen used over the last 30 years, the more unstable it becomes. Keep that up long enough and it's mathematically inevitable that it will spiral out of control. The only question is in which direction.
I've come to realize that "Libertarian Party" is intrinsically an oxymoron, and that's despite having been a card-carrying member for several decades.

You act like it's a one way street. Secured debt is easy. The repo man will come see you. Then, there is nothing to pay cause you already did.
Unsecure debt not so much. Most, if not all, are unscrupulous to begin with. If you have good intentions to begin with, you'll change your mind. They do all they can, legal or otherwise, to make your life hell. They don't care if you are ill. They don't care about anything. Chances are you'll file BK not because you don't want to pay, you'll file to get rid of the harassment. They'll use the legal system, so you have to use it. You won't want to pay before it's over even if you wanted to at first.
Some debt you resume. Some you don't. It's mostly based on how unscrupulous the place was.
And, not all debt is borrowed debt.
