I guess I have mixed views when it comes to global warming. I think it exists, I mean something is causing the ice caps to melt. The weather's been severely screwed up for the past number of years especially in winter with stuck air currents causing wicked cold snaps that won't disappear in portions of the u.s. What I don't know is what exactly is behind it, is it fukushima, the exxon spill decades ago, china's pollution, the earth's axis changing or D, all of the above.
That said I think carbon credits are bullshit. It's definitely a money grab, it allows companies to continue operating business as usual polluting as they wish so long as they can pay to play because they bought some phony ass certificate that magically makes the air cleaner. Meh. It doesn't.
I also don't believe that heavy regulations in one place (like the u.s.) are going to solve it. So we stop peeing in the pool, China and other places continue to pee in the pool and at the end of the day we're all swimming in piss. That's the reality of it. We can't force other places to behave in a certain manner and not sure I'd want to. Not if it means other places returning the favor and forcing crap down our throats. Though hopefully our cities or towns don't become so nasty we need face masks like Beijing.
Then of course you have to factor in nature. California has been up everyone's ass for years about burning, burn barrels, their wood stoves and fireplaces, days it's ok to burn, days it's not ok to burn, air quality warnings. Wonder how all that careful regulation is panning out now that half the fuckin state is on fire. Think that's pumping much smoke in the air? Naw. Meaning no matter how many regulations are in place, when shit happens the best laid plans go to hell in a heartbeat.
It's not going to matter to me one way or the other someone's stance on global warming since it's not a problem the president, hopeful president or even the entire nation can put much of a dent in one way or the other. Regulating our industry into the ground to stop global warming is a bit like dropping a happy meal in Ethiopia to cure that nation's hunger.
