If its the same reason for cats as in dogs (raw fish) I assume it may be something to do with the parasites raw fish have, most dangerous is raw salmon for dogs.

Lots of reasons not to feed (raw) fish to cats, even though most of them love it.

Info here: http://www.littlebigcat.com/nutrition/why-fish-is-dangerous-for-cats/

My cat Dupree had hyperthyroidism, though I'm not sure if it was from fish-based food or not. I had to take him to RadioCat for radioactive iodine treatment. He is much better now and has put his weight back on, though it was extremely difficult to be without him for several days.

well there was a small part in there -
wild adult salmon carrying sea lice (which do not seriously hurt them) are not in the migration channels at the same time as the defenseless baby salmon (fry) on their way to the ocean, so under natural conditions, infestation of the young fish is not a problem. But today, salmon farms are clustered in those exact same migration channels; and sea lice are rampant. Consequently, 60 to 95% of fry become infested before they even reach the ocean, where 100% of infested fry die. Lice can also be transmitted to trout and other related fish.

But mostly mercury and toxin's...good article and thanks for posting that, I think Andria may stop feeding tux that raw fish after all

I'd just as soon stop feeding it to the ol man too, but he'd have a hissyfit. :D He says raw salmon is "swimming steak," and won't eat it any other way. But yeah, I may get him to keep all his on his own plate, and just give her the gray streak of fat off mine, which is properly cooked.

Maybe some of the things on that page start to sound just a little bit far-fetched, but there is truth in whats presented there as well. Probably, like anything else, everything in moderation.

Dupree sure loves an occasional treat of sardines. Jasmine can't stand fish but shes "different" lol.
