Yeah, I'm very lucky. She has exquisite taste. Me on the other hand... ...I like lots of weird shit that some wouldn't even consider to be all that musical.
But in many ways, her tastes in older music have informed my tastes in new music, or more accurately, the way I seek out music in general. I have fond memories of coming home from school and discovering something old, yet completely new to me on the record wall and the adjacent CD/cassette racks. I came to learn not to think of music in terms of what's in and what isn't. If it wasn't for that, I would have grown up thinking, like many of my peers, that the music of our time was the penultimate installment in the progression of ideas... ...the only true golden era. Instead, I try to give everything a fair shake. Any style from any time, when done well, is good music to my ears.
