I was enjoying this. Then YOUTUBE decided that it was "unavailable". I'll find it somewhere.... Me Likey!I can actually deal with the nu-metal aspects of what these guys are doing. I think of got a soft spot, erm... ...in my skull for stuff like that because I was a middle-schooler at the dawn of the millennium, when kids were all about shit like Linkin Park, Limp Dickzit, Mudvayne, SOAD, and so on. That shit rubs off on you at least a little when you're surrounded by it at such an impressionable age.
I will say the nu-metal these guys do is above and beyond anything that was coming out at the peak of its short-lived era. Woulda been a huge hit in the late-90's/early-2000's post-grunge rock scene that dominated the mainstream alternative stations back then.
But what really interests me about them is just how many completely different styles of music they can cram into one song and still have a composition that makes any damned sense. They have some very bizarre sensibilities. Keeps me guessing, every time. The nu-metal and djenty stuff is actually more out of place than anything else. Bit of meshugga in there... ...and funk... ...and lounge music... ...and disco... ...and bossa-nova... ...and debatably some new-school thrash/alternative metal (think Pantera or Sepultura...) ...like what even the hell even is it trying to be?
THAT my friend, is BADASS!Been a while since I heard something that made me melt like this. Give it a minute or two. It gets really gorgeous when it opens up. One word: TACT.
Riight? The man's onto something really special. I remember him saying in an interview that picking up the 18 string was the easiest thing in the world for him because it opened up all of these options. He's just that insanely creative and talented that he can pick up a really daunting instrument and enjoy breaking new ground with it - he's a rare breed of musician, to be sure. Like, I would pick up that guitar and be like "WTF doI do with this?!" while he was more like "Oh hey, this is neat."THAT my friend, is BADASS!
I'm gonna share this with all my geetar-boys.....
