Howdy Corner folk! I'm playing catch up here. Beautiful day out, kinda cool still. Lots to do, but need to absorb massive caffeine and advil or something. I feel so old lately, don't know what's up with that.

Morning. Pissed I missed Envy again last night. Anything interesting I missed?
Chat broke, then the feed broke for some people. Chat came back no sooner that the show ended, so they popped back on long enough to give away the Standard line, then the show ended again. Rep from Baker White was on, took up most of the show. That was about it.
That is still one of my favorite scenes in the movie.
Mine, too. One of the best movies ever, imo. Especially if you're a Tarantino fan. Love his stuff.
SirVTnissanguy08
This cracked me up. I wonder if Sir noticed it.
I need to get some good wire snips that will get closer to the posts
Have you tried fingernail clippers?
Good luck with the process in the new job. Not too long ago I worked at a place that treated those of us that were there a long time like total shit. In their feeble attempt to keep people, the decided to pay new hires more money, leaving the remainder of us to bitch and moan, then eventually quit. I drove near there recently, heading wherever and I saw ZERO cars in their parking lot. Maybe they moved, maybe not. Kimber, you deserve better than staying loyal to an entity that shows you none. You take care of you. They can take care of themselves, or not. Employees deserve far better than they're treated a lot of times. Take the new job, hold your head high and be happy. You owe these people nothing. Had they taken care of you in the first place, you wouldn't even be looking at the other.

But at least I got to drive my car like a racecar. (Follwed the ambulance with a cop clearing the way and I was able to run reds and go as fast as they were (hit 90 in the city) so theirs that I guesse..... Totally agree.

Back in 2010 when the economy was so bad, my husband's employer fired all the "dead wood" (those who spent their shifts pretending to work rather than actually working) and put everyone else on short hours -- 34.5 a week -- which enabled them to keep all their actual workers, rather than having to lay anyone off (and all the owner-operators went completely without salary during that phase). In early 2012, they went back to 40 hr weeks, and shortly thereafter, my husband also got back his 7.5hr wk OT, along with a small raise. In 2014, they gave him another small raise. Then they gave him another. And a few months later, a 3rd raise. Everyone else in the plant got the first 2 raises in 2014.... he got the 3rd raise because he's the hardest worker they have, who never says "it's not my job," and was the only one who didn't raise hell about the short hours. This company does it right, and rewards those who have the "company man" attitude. But he's worked for other companies that definitely didn't treat their employees right, which is why we value this employer so extremely. They do exist -- but they can be really hard to find.

I got mine yesterday too.

I didn't have much luck with the coils. Had little people all day so only had an hour to play while the girls were napping. Super frustrating. I need to get some good wire snips that will get closer to the posts. Watched some more videos on how to build so will give it a try today.

Good morning everyone!

Home Depot sells a good Crescent Brand set with snips & a mini needle nose pliers, pretty reasonably priced

Fortunately I'm not on the web that much, just this forum, the usual Google searches and occasionally YouTube reviews.. Don't even own a computer, just this cellphone and a 8" Android tablet..
If it wasn't raining I'd be riding the tractor, mowing down those weeds... 4 acres doesn't sound like much but it is bouncing around on that tractor, lol

It works! I'm getting a couple dry hits. I know about the wicking and how picky it is. I thought I had it exactly like the 6 or 7 videos I watched but I must have just a tad too much in there. The flavor is great though. I'm still trying to decide if it's worth the hassle. I really prefer single coil. Huck... I have been using nail clippers,, they work pretty well too but I saw a guy on a video yesterday that had nice nippers that got really close to the post. I'll probly go check HD and see if they have what Hank suggested.

Gotta say.. I'm a little proud. The grub screws and the Allen wrench are a bit of a pain. I don't know how you guys get your coils in there straight... Mine are always a little wonky... What do you guys use to build on? I screw the base on my cuboid but I'm thinking there must be a better way.

I use a 3mm small screw driver from this $5 set at Walmart.. Several sizes here but 3mm seems to work the best for me..

I got a 3" vise shortly after I started building coils... worth its weight in gold; it stays absolutely stationary no matter how tight I pull the wire around the screw.

Yerp. Gonna agree with the screw driver. You could also use the bit from your jig to straighten the coils out, after installation

I dunno; I got the 3" vise for about $25, on sale at Harbor Freight. I know that some hand tools can cost that much. And the vise is useful for any task where I need something to stay perfectly still.

I agree, a vise has many uses..This building is my shop where I have 3 table vises, metal lathe, milling machine, drill press and numerous welding machines..its where I go if I need to use a table vise..or anything else heavy duty.. I have a small table here in my room for vape stuff, and wrapping coils..I got a 3 pack of Vise grips ,also from harbor freight for like $5...they work great for my coil needs..just sayin

Yeah, my husband has a 6" stationary vise, attached to a worktable; the 3" vise, he mounted on a 2x6 for me, to prevent gouging my kitchen counter. It's a little heavy, I have to make sure to bend my knees when I pick it up off the floor or put it down, but it's really a champ. Best tool I've bought, for coil-building. Everything else, I "make do" -- 3/32 drillbit for wrapping the coils; pair of hemostats to hold the wire for flaming -- and a bic lighter for the flaming. It all works, so I see no need to fix it. :)

Bic lighter? lol
You didn't get the little propane torch at harbor freight? push button and was only $5...I used it to carbonize stainless mesh wicks in my tootle puffing (newbie) days..still got it but I found torching wire like 24g I use today is totally unnecessary...torch still works though..lol

I like torching SS coils, I find a lighter just takes too long, but getting a nice glow on it breaks in the wire, and without it I'll get a funky taste for a bit.
