You are hilarious. You have "my" sense of humour and that's awesome.

Just thought I'd let you know.

Carry on...

Oh but the Red Horseman is War... Famine is the Black Horseman.

That doesn't prove god doesn't exist. It proves poverty does.

Better? While I know that poverty doesn't prove god(s) don't exist, It does throw a monkey wrench in the cogs that a "loving and benevolent father-like creator" exists.

If there is a god(s) they are most certainly NOT benevolent.

Are you reading the thread? I've never expressed any bother at the beliefs of others. People are entitled to believe whatever they want to. But it appears that a whole bunch of people are in fact bothered by my atheism. To the point of calling me the most nasty and vicious names they can come up with.
Hmmmm sounds more like insecurity in your own beliefs....that be a personal issue.
I've always gotten along better with Satanists than Christians...

Ok.
Please note. PCR wanted to debate how atheism is unscientific.
Perhaps he didn't want to discuss atheism with any actual atheists?
And you do realize that atheist don't believe in god, so that's going to be a point in the discussion?

Was it supposed to be just a discussion/debate amongst yourselves what atheist think/don't think, and that science somehow proves atheist don't know it, but they really believe in god(s) too?

I am not trying to convince anyone to 'join me'.
I'm not in a club.

You're right, this isn't a debate.

I reject the "benevolent god/deity/creator" ideal on one basis: free will. Free will gives us all the choice to pursue our lives as we see fit. To accept or deny the existence of such a deity. To make the choices that will either improve or degrade the condition of our fellow man and woman.

Poverty, war, hate, intolerance. All conditions which are perpetuated by us, by and through our actions or inactions. Laying the blame for them at the foot of god is a weak play to deflect responsibility from ourselves.

Which is why it irks me when a person says "I'll pray for you". Rather than offering any tangible help, they offer a platitude which amounts to nothing.

After the terrorist attack in Paris, I was rather vocal about it. Don't "pray" for Paris, religion is what caused the tragedy, send money or donate blood; you know, ACTUALLY do something to help. View attachment 49199
While in one sense I agree with this, the counter is that if someone feels they all have to offer is prayer, does rejecting or belittling it serve any purpose - other than to possibly insult them?

Hi Snake,

What about the binary nature of the existential claim that a deity exists? There exists such a binary question, and I demonstrated quite clearly that the atheist position is one of a truth statement which excludes any possibility of a deity existing if one chooses that viewpoint.

The only logical answer to the question is agnosticism. Yes, that means deists are being illogical in their faith, but that's part of the point isn't it?

;)

If you wish to bring up the double edged sword.Let us hope that 1 isn't hanging over your head first.

I would love to...however so far you've proven you have no clear concept of of what it actually is.

On the contrary, I already demonstrated that referring to one self as an atheist, but allowing for the possibility of a deity is illogical. That demonstrates YOU don't know what the term means.

More like Aristotle, Avicenna and Plato...oh, and Sen...

I actually have read the entire thread. It seems as if you have a major grudge on this Surf Monkey fellow. He seems very intelligent to me and a much more worthy opponent than myself. Slinging poo gets us nowhere here, but, if that makes you happy, sling away, I'll duck....:)
I'll give you a nice yellow slicker so the poo just slides right off without getting on your clothes.

I would prefer to not make an event that changed my life, fodder for a group of people looking to degrade someone for having a belief.

The only degrading I have seen has come from the side of the believers, with one exception. Most of us are not trying to take away your faith. I, for one, respect that you have faith. Just because I do not believe does not automatically make me the bad guy here. I merely express my own thoughts on the subject and I try to do it respectfully. It is a 2 way street, if you allow it.

I reject belief in God due to a complete lack of any supporting evidence or reason around the concept.
Here's my problem with this line of thought.Sticking tab A into slot B shouldn't feel as good as it does. All evidence shows it should actually feel unpleasant.Reason says it's probably unsanitary as well.Yet I dare you to not do it and not like it.Now fuck off...Thanks.

True, I TRIED to make that point a few pages back. Unfortunately that is not the case in this thread- When it gets to poking fun at the belief itself, and degrading a deity coupled to the fact that most of the group showed up at the same time, and most are only here for this one thread the true motive becomes rather easy ascertain.

If you believe something doesn't exist based on no evidence, wouldn't that be faith?
He didn't say he believed.
In fact, he said the exact opposite.

He said he DOESN'T believe.
How much faith does it require to not believe something?

Why, oh, why is this so hard for some people.

Does not believe ≠ believes not

Are... Are you in the right thread for that statement?

Sure, if it lightens things up in here. Seems we're always going to have smashers and bashers wherever we go. I gloss over them, for the most part and try to keep the peace. Almost impossible in this thread, but I believe it can be done. Each side needs to respect the OTHER side in order for any intelligent conversation to take place. I've seen way worse in other forums. Okay, maybe less swearing in those forums, but douchebaggery of the highest order has taken place and it wasn't pretty.

Very true. I just don't understand how someone else believes or doesn't affects another person, unless they're shoving it down their throat. I've been friends with a lot of forum peeps for years and never had a clue what religion they followed or didn't, and it won't affect me one way or the other. Same if they're gay, straight, short, fat, old, young... Doesn't change my life a bit and we can still get along for the most part. That's why this thread is such a mess, everyone taking someone else's life personally

I personally choose not to follow any specific religion. I won't back anything with strict "rules" I don't agree with. I can neither prove nor disprove any existence of a god or gods. It's a possibility as far as I'm concerned that there are one or more. But I refuse to be a part of something that condemns people for certain things I think are acceptable.

I believe in doing my best to be a good person. Helping others when I can. I believe in letting others believe whatever they feel necessary in their lives. Live and let live. I believe in honesty and integrity. And respect in general, until you do something to me or someone I care about directly.
